Tis' I, the ACL guy with yet another layout tour. This time Pam and I were fortunate enough to get Cliff Powers to give up 3.5 hours of his June 1, Sunday afternoon and let us visit his Magnolia Route - The Mississippi, Alabama & Gulf layout. His layout was featured in an Allan Keller DVD Volume #56 and was the cover story for Model Railroad Planning 2014. You can visit the Mississippi, Alabama & Gulf here - www.magnoliaroute.com (http://www.magnoliaroute.com).
Cliff was a very gracious host and we throughly enjoyed our visit in seeing the layout and our conversation with Mr. Powers. I was quite loquacious upon my arrival mainly due to the fact that I didn't want Cliff to see me drooling. One of the things that impressed me about Cliff is that he immediately made us feel welcome to his layout and he wasn't in a hurry to run me off, even with my drooling!
I believe Mr. Powers is humble to a fault and I mean in a very positive way. He was concerned that we may be disappointed with the layout after driving some 650+ miles to see the layout. Not me, how could I be disappointed? This pilgrim was visiting Mecca!!!! The only thing I didn't do yesterday was to genuflect when I left! Trust me, I wanted to and almost did! However, I did bow at one time during my visit.
Cliff is an extremely talented modeler and his work and layout are equally impressive. The layout is picture perfect but I must tell you no picture of mine can really show the quality and natural appearance of the layout. The scenes, structures, weathering, lighting, small details and overall appearance all seem perfectly natural. I could go on but I'm guessing by now you want me to shut the trap and get to the pictures.
I do have Cliff's permission to show these photos on the forum.
The entrance to Mecca!

Come on Tom, lets get those pictures going!
Tom, I thoroughly enjoyed your visit yesterday. It was a pleasure meeting you and your lovely wife, Pam. I'm excited to see your photos!!! Thanks for the very kind words...I'm glad y'all made it home safely!
By the way, one of the many items of dicussion yesterday with Cliff was his passion for structures and building them. I gave him the infomation on this forum so hopefully we'll see Cliff over here. I sent him the link to this thread.
I only had time to take 300 pictures and I'm not sure of the best way to show them. I thought about this during my return drive to Orlando. I decided to show them in the order as if you were visiting and looking. My first pictures will start with the lower level and go around the room and finish with the top level.
The helix in the three photos below is to the right of the entrance as you enter Mecca. The photo tour starts with the area to the left of the entrance.

Thanks to you and Pam for going to see Cliff's wonderful layout. I look forward to seeing all the pictures you took and ... Really appreciate Cliff letting you share the photo's with the rest of us. I will looking for more pictures any minute now. Find the easy chair, a bottle of Diet Pepsi and just keep posting. We are all ready. Thanks again. Got to get back to the station build.

Frank,
I didn't see anything I didn't like at Cliff's! There was nothing not to like!
I'm staying with my original ovalix plan with one track. It will make for train engineers to wait for the green light.
At the present, a direct injection of pure caffeine can't keep me from bed after posting the next eight pictures.

Here are a few more photos of Cliff Power's layout. I've noticed some of the photos look a little "yellowish". I use the Auto Color Correct when cropping the photos. I need your opinion. The next three photos are with the Auto Color Correct with Sharpen and the last two (total of five) photos are without the Auto Color Correct. Can you tell a difference or is it me? I can change the red, blue or green but no the yellow.
Certainly I'm not a professional photographer but I want Cliff's layout to look correct with respect to the scenes and his fantastic craftmanship! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm using Irfanview for the photo program.

Tom,
Beautiful photos. You could work for a magazine. Personally, I think the last two photos look more natural, but there is only a slight difference between them. I would be interested in knowing what the temperature of the lights are that Cliff used. Any idea what Cliff used? The bulb color/temperature is very important for good photogrphy and it looks like cliff nailed it. Or maybe it is your wonderful photography!

Frank,
Thanks for the input. It appears that my Auto Color Adjust adds a little yellow to the photo. I like the non-auto photos as well. I don't know what Cliff uses for his lights but you are correct in that he nailed the lighting issue. Trust me, it's not my wonderful photography! On a side note my auto color adjustment worked perfectly on Howard Zane's photos so I'm guessing it is a difference in the light temp or light lumens.
Maybe Cliff can help you here.
When and If he lets me go back I'll be taking my 35mm digital camera with tripod instead of the Sony Cybershot!
Thanks again Frank! I hope you are staying out of the heat.

Bob
Bob,
Sorry, I didn't see your post! No, no photo shop. For the photo loading and cropping I'm using Irfanview. I've tried Picasa (sp) and one other but I like this one best. I've come to realize the lumens of the bulbs in the lights will dictate the captured color of the image. I guess that makes sense. Cliff, I believe, has all fluorescent lights on the layout. I neglected to ask!
I mentioned at the beginning of the thread my photos wouldn't do the layout or Cliff's beautiful craftmanship justice. I feel bad as Cliff deserves the correct color representation of his work.
On my layout I use Phillips Cool White with an output of 3200 Lumens and a color temperature of 4100K. I also have these lights reflect off the ceiling. This gives me ambient lighting.
Hope this addresses your thoughts.
Tom ;D
I wanted to show ya'll the rest of this beautiful southern pine forest but I got to much of the light reflection in the photo. If I cropped the photo to remove the lights I would only be able to show the bottom half of the forest. Notice how Cliff has also taken the utility poles and wire along the track and out of the picture/scene. This is what is wonderful about his layout, nothing has been left out.
(https://modelersforum.com/gallery/24-080614152949.jpeg) (http://modelersforum.com/gallery/24-080614152949.jpeg)
This next photo is much better in showing the track and poles. Notice also the fascia in that it isn't just straight along the layout edge? It has a very subtle pattern as opposed to being straight like most layouts!

You are very welcome. The sawmill is just around the corner! Cliff's Magnolia Route is absolutely a layout you should see. Seeing it will cause you to be speechless when you enter the layout room. That, in my humble opinion, is better than the
WOW factor.

The reason I asked about photoshop is that they have a very easy to use color balance toggle. I wonder if yours doesn't have something similar lurking in the back ground.
I'm not up to speed on what you are using.

Bob,
Thanks for the input. My program does have an auto adjust color feature. I'm guessing the results depend on the the color capture of the camera.
Tom ;D
Tom..........
If your program has a color balance capability......... Given the colors shown above, turn down the green or sho e up the blue and experiment.
Often these programs don't know what to do with the altered data or missing stuff so you might need to turn back up the contrast.
Below is one of the photos you put up with only the simplest alterations.
don't be afraid to push stuff around. Just always rename stuff so you keep your originals.

Thanks for posting more great photo's of this wonderful layout Tom!
I'm going to try really hard to emulate the colors/finish of the roof top piping/cyclone that Cliff did on Crocker Bros. Feed Mill when I work on my Fox Run Milling build. I love it! :D
Bob,
Thanks for stopping by, again. Cliff's Crocker Brothers Feed Mill is the best I've seen!

Thanks everyone for the kind comments! Tom, the pictures look great and feature photo angles that I've never used before. It's always neat to see how the layout appears through the lens of others!! I appreciate you sharing my work with everyone here. I'm looking forward to contributing to the forum as well. I thought I'd post a couple of my favorite shots from the area you have presented thus far. I'm looking forward to your next installment!

Cliff,
Thank you for checking in and posting a few thoughts. We are happy you've decided to pull up a chair and stay for a spell! Have a RC Cola, Moon Pie and enjoy yourself. LOL! I wonder where I heard that!
I love the street level view of your photos! I see mine are mostly a "birds eye view"! I've been working on the colors for the photos as the last thing I want to do is misrepresent the layout in a photograph or do a disservice to your talents.
Also, I'm sure I speak for all forum members in saying we look forward to your participation on the forum.
Thank you for letting me photograph your layout as well as allowing me to show them here.
PS: I didn't miss the CP + JJ love note on the fence in the second photo!

Bart,
Thank you for following along and it has been my pleasure in meeting Cliff, seeing this fantastic layout and posting the photos here.
As soon as I saw The Magnolia Route on Allen Keller's DVD, I moved this layout to the top of my "MUST SEE" layout list even ahead of the F&SM. The F&SM is back to #1. Also, the few hours my Babe and I had to meet Cliff and see the layout was well worth the 9+ hours one way drive!
Tom ;D
I really missed out in not getting more pictures in the area of the country store. It was a great scene. Ok, here is my excuse - I was a guest of Cliff's and didn't want to stick my camera to far in the scene. I had a visitor break a couple of trees on my layout doing the very same.

Cliff's farm scene was a fantastic area to view. The transition from the country to the farm was very subtle. One minute you are watching the swimmers in the river and next thing you know you've passed the store and traveling through the farm area. Cliff shows how he made the planted field in the Allen Keller DVD. If you don't have the DVD you should get it. It's an excellent DVD.

Continued in a few.
Cliff also did an excellent job in using the digital background photos. Everything just seemed to be photographed for that one area where they were used.
Using the digital photo in the next photo was a stroke of genius. See how Cliff made it appear the farm is on a higher elevation than the reat of the scene?

This next scene really caught my eye. I noticed an area of modeling I've never seen on other layouts. Its the area around the drain pipe under the driveway but better viewed in the second photo.
Notice how the ditch area has a slight look of white or very light gray? We've all seen this in ditches after the rain and the ditch has dried. A very thin coating of silt is left on the ditch vegetation.
Also, note the bracing of the utility poles. This prevents the pole from bending against the pressure of the wires.
(https://modelersforum.com/gallery/24-080614153617.jpeg) (http://modelersforum.com/gallery/24-080614153617.jpeg)
(https://modelersforum.com/gallery/24-080614153644.jpeg) (http://modelersforum.com/gallery/24-080614153644.jpeg)
Continued in a few.
We will soon be leaving the farm area. First, we need to pass under, in my case that would be over the old wooden overpass, round the corner and take a few additional looks back at the farm.
We now leave the farm area and travel a little down the dirt road to another great scene. Do I hear church bells? "We shall gather at the river, the beautiful,--------" Oh wait, I've already been to the river.
More later this week. I want this adventure to last!
Those are THE BEST looking trees I've seen in modeling.
Cliff. Are you up for posting a "How To" for us?
Tom,
Once again, thanks for posting some many great photos of Cliff's layout, areas that I hadn't seen before. Your photography skills are excellent and really show off this fine layout. I really hope to get down to Mississippi someday and visit his layout too.
The utility poles you showed (and thanks for calling them "utility poles" (vs "telephone poles) (spoken from a retired electric utility guy)) - the braces are called "push braces" and are used when guying (stringing guys wires in the opposite direction of the push brace) is not feasible, due to terrain or right of way issues. Not that you really needed to know that, but thought you might find it interesting...

Al,
I'm very happy you and others are enjoying this fantastic layout. Although I appreciate your belief in my excellent photography skills, I'm not sure your nose isn't getting a bit longer at the moment! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I've come to realize that one can be a dunce with the camera but a great layout is always a great layout.
Thanks for the info on the utility poles. I like the look Cliff got from using them. So far I'm only up to about 100 things I'd like to use on my new Atlantic and Southern, of course all these came from visiting Cliff or watching the DVD.
Tom ;D
Cliff,
I'm happy you are pleased with the photos. I'm trying my best to make them look right.
As I mentioned before, I like your street level view of the areas I've shown. I'll have to remember that for the next layout I visit.
Tom ;D
Cliff has really captured the feel and look of the South! The Church in the next photo says it all. When my Babe and I drove to Brandon to visit Cliff we saw hundreds of old churches and many like the one he has on the Magnolia Route. Not to mention the thousands of old live oaks and magnolia trees all through Mississippi. Most southern country churches have the brick foundation posts as seen on or under this church.
(https://modelersforum.com/gallery/24-170614181724.jpeg) (http://modelersforum.com/gallery/24-170614181724.jpeg)
No surpirse either that its a Baptist Church afterall, we are in the Bible Belt!
Imagine you find yourself in Brandon, Mississippi in the early to mid 1950's! You came back only to visit your parents for a week in July, a very hot July. You were a day late as the floorboard push starter on you old 1938 Chevy was not working half the time and you, your wife and two children slept in the car at the corner Gulf station while a new push starter was ordered. You didn't have the money for a motel room and the new starter.
On the morning you arrived at your parents home, you were telling your dad about the starter hoping upon hope he would offer to pay for the repair. You were not fond of the thought of asking your dad for money but the cost of the starter took a portion of the family vacation money! On Sunday morning the kids were fussing and you knew they were getting on your dad's last nerve. You decide to go for a ride in the country. You take advantage of the situation and ask to borrow your father's flathead 6 cyl., 4dr. 1951 Ford. It didn't have a radio as he didn't want to spend the extra $50 for a factory installed one. You didn't care as you knew your wife would be humming some tune.
After several miles of driving on the dusty roads you realize the car is filling with fine road silt but its to hot to roll up the windows. You notice you and the family are covered in a bronze colored dust and the kids on the back seat have dirt rings under their necks. You notice the dust is on your white t-shirt and wonder if the dust is now in your favorite pack of cigarette rolled in your right sleeve. Its all over the metal dash and you rub your hand across the dash exposing a highly polished dash. You are now thinking how much trouble it will be to clean your dad's car knowing he will expect to get it back clean.
It's getting hotter in the morning when you come upon the River Bend Trading Post. The kids see the 7-UP and Pepsi sign on the wall and the big red box cooler in front. They start screaming, "Daddy, Daddy can we stop and get a cold drink"? You look at your wife and she turns to the kids and says, "Not now, maybe Daddy will stop on the way back"! You drive on as the kids slink back into the seat mumbling, "We never get to stop and get cold drinks"! You drive on.
The country road then crosses a railroad track and to the right you see the Jourdon River. There are many cars parked under the shade of the trees and you notice folks are swimming and cooling off. You look in the rearview mirrow and the kids are still on the seat and you are thankful they don't see the people swimming in the river. You drive on. You pass planted fields of green and notice a farm off in the distance. The road takes you up a slight hill and across an old wooden vehicle bridge crossing the railroad tracks. You stop, hoping to see a train or at least hear a whistle. After a few minutes of nothing, you drive on and off the old wooden bridge. The wood planks rattle and bang on the supports as you cross. The noise gets the kids off the seat and to the left rear window.
You come to a farm and wonder if this is the farm you saw a few miles back down the road. There is an old oak tree with a tire swing hanging from one of the old branches. You press the accelerator, to late, the kids have seen the swing. "Daddy, Daddy, can we stop and swing"? You reply, "NO"! "We never get to do anything. What a dumb vacation" echo's from the rear seat. You drive on but not before the car is filled with farm smells. The kids slink back on the seat pinching their noses.
After a few more miles, one of the kids starts saying, "When are we going to stop? I have to go peepee"! You pull over on a curved part of the road. Your wife gets out and opens the right rear door. The angle of the car on the road and the door will hide the fact the act is taking place. You look around and to your great surprise you notice an old country church. Its now near the noon hour and you can hear a song coming from the church. It sounds like the old Baptist Hymnal of Salvation. You can barely hear something like, "Just as I am without one plea ..............." You notice the church sign says KILN BAPTIST CHURCH!
The door is closed and you decide its time to go back to your parents home. Maybe you'll stop by the River Bend Trading Post and get everyone an iced cold drink. Maybe they have Moon Pies and a big round jar of Tom's Salted Peanuts! A Grapette will be good, maybe an Upper Ten or Nehi Strawberry or even a RC Cola Black Cherry drink. They all are so good. Maybe I'll just get a Pepsi and hope one day they'll make a Diet Pepsi!

Gman,
Always good to see you! As I wrote the little story, I remembered the days traveling with my parents in our Ford station wagon. Metal dash, no radio, my mother humming some tune, the dust and my three sisters doing what they did best- just being sisters and the dirt rings around the neck.
On one trip to Illinois, I said something bad to one of my sisters. When we stopped for those iced cold drinks, my dad said I couldn't have the Nehi Strawberry because of what I said. To this day I don't remember what I said but I do remember not getting that drink and to this day, not liking my sister.
Now, I'll just take one of those Hires Root Beer drinks as well. I remember getting Birch Beer drinks from the A&W!
Tom ;D
The oak trees around the church are the best I've seen. I took the next picture as I was sure I saw a few birds in there.

I was spending some time this afternoonlooking through the pictures I took on my visit June 1. I realized there is nothing NOT to like about Cliff's modeling skills and the Magnolia Route Railroad. Here are a few more pictures for ya'll!.

This next scene is relative simple but yet it plays a very big role in the overall look and feel of the Magnolia Route. This is a brilliant scene.
Notice how the road elevates after crossing the tracks. The truck appears to be coming down a slight hill and the digital photo backdrop gives you the feeling that the road goes down the hills in the back. Brilliant, just brilliant!
Continued after another Diet Pepsi break!
Here's a lucky family on vacation pulling their Air Stream camper. They are either leaving or passing through Wharton, Miss.. I wonder if the kids in the back seat pinched their noses as they passed the Pine Belt Meat Packing Company?

I'm sure it took a Northern Mississippi lightning strike in the past. No wonder, it sits next to two huge steel bridges and a body of water. Brilliant, just brilliant!

Well, here is another mystery solved! It appears the John Deere distributorship is buying the Red Deer Tractor and repainting them! 8) 8)
It appears business is slow at the Wharton Farm Center!
Finally we see the source of the foul smell! No wonder the Wharton City Council made the Pine Belt Meat Company build on the edge of town!

Note in the three photos above you can see the supports for the top or third level of Cliff's fantastic layout. I could have cropped them out but the pictures were taken as a reference for me when I get to that point on my layout. Yes, I did get close ups of the actual supports in relation to the second level. When standing and viewing the layout, these supports aren't visible to the visitor.

Great pics Tom! The attention to detail here is amazing. Every scene from the rivulets in the rock cut to the massive sawmill are fantastic. I'm aware there is a a lot more urban modeling ahead as well. Great layout!

Great photos.
Thanx
Bob
What Bob said and also great layout! Thanks again for posting Tom.
John,
This is the most complete layout I've ever visited! There is only one problem I've found with Cliff's Magnolia Route!
It's not closer to my home! The problem can be fixed but I need to get Disney to offer Cliff a modeling job first! ;D ;D ;D We have magnolia trees here in Florida as well.

Great pics Tom! The attention to detail here is amazing. Every scene from the rivulets in the rock cut to the massive sawmill are fantastic. I'm aware there is a a lot more urban modeling ahead as well. Great layout!

I've been working on the Atlantic and Southern and haven't been posting photos of Cliff Powers wonderful Alabama, Mississippi & Gulf. Since I burned my fingers with some hot glue and can't do much on my AS I'll post many additional photos of Cliff's Magnolia Route.

I really the white buildling on the corner in the fnext photo. There is another view of this structure shown above. Many buildings in the south were white and the white heloed to reflect the sun and heat. I tried to lighten the photo but was loosing detail so I let it stay as is!
Also note the store awnings. This was typical of the south as well.
The previous 130+ photos of the Alabama, Mississippi & Gulf were of the second level. Should I ever be so fortunate to return to visit Cliff and his empire, the next set of pictures I take of the second level would be from ground level vs the birds eye view I showed you. This layout takes on a whole different look from street level. I just didn't have the time for street viewing.
From this point on the photos show the upper level of the Magnolia Route. Again, the first photo below is what the visitor sees of the upper level when when entering the layout. This would be on the left.

The Creole Queen shown in the next two photos is a kit. I don't remember who Cliff told me the manufacturer is of the paddle wheel but he said it was very difficult to build as many of the parts didn't fit as expected. Here is a story Cliff told my Babe and I about the kit.
A friend saw the Creole Queen and wanted Cliff to build one for him. Cliff said something to the friend like, "My friend, I'll donate a kidney to you but I won't build another Creole Queen"!

The Napoleon Avenue Wharf is all scratch built by Cliff. He used photos of the real wharf to build his version. Again, one just needs to see this to really appreciate Cliff's talent and craftsmanship! As I mentioned, I know my photos don't really capture the feel of the layout. I've heard folks say this about the F&SM of George Sellios. I'm talking museum quality work here. Okay, back to the photos.

The large gray structure in the back ground is a Walthers kit bash! I believe Cliff told me it was made from five Walthers kits - all from the same kit name. I don't remember what the kit is. Also, I'm very sorry I didn't get more pictures of it as it is a FTOB, pronounced Fo-Taub! Ha, Fantastic Thing of Beauty!

John,
Thanks for checking in. This is a great layout and it is housed in a 14X32 ft. building, separate from the house. It has it's own central air/heat system. Cliff has done the impossible in that there is just a huge amount of modeling in this amount of space, masterful modeling that is.
This may help you in getting the size of the layout in the proper perspective.

Tom,
Thanks for posting even more great photos of Cliff's great layout - again, I'm seeing views I hadn't seen before. Wonderful stuff!
There are so many great scenes and views of this layout, I think you and Cliff should consider putting it all together into a coffee table type book, ala Howard Zane's wonderful book.
Truly inspirational stuff!
Al Carter
Al,
Thank you for following and posting your comment! This layout is truly one of the best ever. I feel this is as good as the FSM only on a smaller size. For the Southern look and feel, Mr. Powers nailed it!
As far as the book is concerned that would be entirely up to Cliff. Howard did his own book and there was a least a year+ in prep work, etc. I received an email from Cliff last month and he mentioned he has been extremely busy with work, family and teaching. He mentioned also he is considering a "sabbatical" from the layout for some time.
Again, Al, thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your time.

Chet,
Thanks for stopping by and checking out the Magnolia Route Mr. Powers has built. It is one fantastic layout and the pictures just don't do it justice.
Tom ;D
He is a great modeler. His YouTube videos are some of he best I have seen. I do a lot of traveling and I sure would like to see it in person. Years ago I had to opportunity to see George Sellios Franklin & South Manchester when he only had the first section completed. Another outstanding modeler.
Modelers like this sure give you a lot of inspiration. Back in the late 60's, while on instructor duty at Mare Island I got to crew on John Allens G&D. I think that is what really kick started me into model railroading.

Chet,
Wow, you got to be a crew member on the famous John Allen G&D! That's wonderful. I was very fortunate to catch Cliff between his many projects. The videos and pictures really don't prepare you for what you see when you enter his empire.
I must say also that Cliff advised me he was taking a year off from railroad modeling to get many of his life projects finished. He is one very busy person in that he is a father, husband, teacher, teacher's teacher, modeler and etc.
I have many more photos to post of the Magnolia Route.

I sure would like to see you add a thread here on the forum about your experiences as a crew member at one of John Allen's OPP sessions. You are not the only one that has a trip to see Cliff's great layout on their bucket list.
Here are a few of the turntable and roundhouse areas on the Magnolia Route.

The roundhouse is the standard Walthers roundhouse. However, Cliff added the rolled tarpaper roofing material and also added stay wires to the smoke stacks. These simple little changes, make a huge difference on how the structure looks.

I was so intent on taking the photo here that I didn't notice the man and his ladder are on the ground. I hope he didn't get hurt and Cliff, I didn't knock him over. LOL!

It's hard to believe my last post here with pictures was more than a month ago. Life sure has a way of getting in the way of the hobby. As most of you know I've been very busy with house painting for the Babe. In any event here are a few fantastic pictures of the interior of Cliff's Magnolia Route roundhouse.
You can see in previous photos how Cliff made the roof appear to be rolled tarpaper and he added wire stays to the smoke stacks. Also, not sure you can see from my pictures but he used real photos of a wood ceiling and scaled them to HO and glued them to the underside of the roundhouse roof. The effect is quite stunning.
I'm putting Cliff on notice here that I will make every attempt to copy his every move on my roundhouse. ;D ;D ;D No joking here, I'm serious.
I won't forget to add many of Slim's LEDs to light it as well.

;D I'm just proud of Cliff for puttin' the Ledbetters in there pushin' their car!!
(Disclosure - they bought the cheapest car on the lot and ignored the oil pool under it!!)
Or maybe that's their car that they're wantin' to trade in!! ;D ;D ;D

Gman,
Thanks for stopping by. However, I think you have it all wrong. I'm quite confident the Ledbetters are the owners of the carlot. They are the ones who sold the car to the honest people pushing the vehicle into the lot. Ya just can't trust dem L'betters.
Tom ;D
The used car lot is a great scene, the Ledbettters are "the rest of the story".
The name for the car dealer makes me think of a company here in Boise called Fairly Reliable Bob's

The next set of pictures is of Cliff's passenger station. The station is an HO scale version of the Union Passenger Terminal in New Orleans.
IT IS COMPLETELY SCRATCH BUILT! YES, COMPLETELY!
Every detail has been faithfully reproduced and scaled to HO. Photos were taken of different areas of details and the photos were scaled and used on the build.

Yesterday my Babe and I had the honor of attending Cliff Power's final open house for the Mississippi, Alabama & Gulf layout in Brandon, Mississippi.
I really hate long screeds on the forum but I want to get everyone up to date.
First let me say that the Magnolia Route will NOT be a Fallen Flag layout. Pam and I met the new owner of the layout, Dr. Mark Stanton. He is a really great guy and is a doctor for the VA. Anyway, the layout was sold and will be relocated in Dr. Stanton's garage. He first said the garage is getting central air/heat and insulation prior to the layout being installed. It will go into storage until then.
Cliff was a great host and we certainly enjoyed our visit. We stayed about three hours and would have stayed longer except we were driving 10 hours back to Orlando after the visit.
I did get about a hundred of so new photos and they were mainly ones in which I was interested. I will share them all here in any case.
I'm really excited about the new layout, The Cumberland & Ohio Valley.
I'll post the new photos as I get them cropped and more importantly, when I get the chance.

Curt,
Thank you for looking in. This is an incredible layout. His talents are above all the rest of us.
When Pam and I went to visit Cliff the first time, June 6, 2014, I decided right then my old layout was not what I wanted. I told Cliff I was going to copy the basic theme of his southern layout. And, I did and still am. 8)

Hey Tom! I thoroughly enjoyed your visit Saturday. Thanks so much to you and Pam for making the very long drive to share the final days of the MA&G with me. Even though the new layout will be a complete departure from the current one, I hope you will see fit to make a return trip at some time in the future. I'd love to come se your beautiful layout next time we make our annual trip to Orlando. Thanks again!!

Tom
I'm glad you made it home from a successful road trip. We are looking forward to the pictures.
John,
Thanks, Pam and I were exhausted when we got home. However, the trip was worth is ten time over.

Cliff,
Pam and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit as well. It great meeting the other guys and your lovely wife as well. We had a great time talking with Mark and seeing his excitement of being the new owner of the Magnolia Route.
As I said, after our first visit to the Magnolia Route, I came home and began removal of the old layout. The MA&G was such an inspiration to me. I'm very pleased with what I've done with the new look of the A&S RR. You can almost smell the pine trees.
When you make the call, we will be there. The new layout is going to be spectacular.
Yes, please plan on a visit A&S RR when you and the family return to the area.
Again, thank you Cliff for the invitation to attend the final open house, we really had a great time. The long drive was worth every minute.

I mentioned on this visit my pictures were focused on areas I was particularly interested in. One such area was the MA&G Coach Yard and supporting structures. I was so impressed with his detail of this area I decided to copy all I can for the A&S RR.
I'll start ya'll out with these five. I think I have about 35+ of this area.
The Coach Yard is located to the side and rear of the MA&G Ice Plant.

John,
Thanks, it is difficult to tell the difference. If it wasn't on the layout, the photos could easily be prototypical.

Continuing with the photos of Cliff's highly detailed coach yard on the Magnolia Route.
