Hey Guys:
Here's my next project. FSM #115 Coal & Sand Shed.
Karl
An oldie goldie.....I'll be looking in at this one Karl..... :)
I'll be following.
Those FSM kits are always fun builds. I'm on board for this one as well. :D
Where's the bus to get on? Can't wait.....Dennis
Looking forward to this build.
Hey Greg, Curt Bob B., Dennis & Wig Wag:
Thanks for joining in on this guys. Glad to have you aboard.
Karl
Count me in, I'll be interested to see what you do with this.
dave
Perfect for your building skills.
Jerry
Hey Dave And Jerry:
thanks for following along. Glad to had you aboard.
Karl
Two days and you haven't posted finished photos.....what's the hold-up Karl? ;)
Hey Greg:
This looks like quite A time consuming kit. We shall see.
Karl
Hi All:
Had to repair the front peaked wall as it was in pieces in the box. I stained the pieces first so I wouldn't have A glue problem with the stain not taking. Here's the photos.
Karl
Perfect fix. Good as new.
Looking forward to seeing this classic come to life.
Hey Vince:
Glad to have you along. for the ride.
Karl
Looks like it was never broken.
Count me in as well.
Tom ;D
I'm hopping on the train for this one. I always liked the look of this kit, with that big bucket loader.
--Opa George
Hey Curt, Tom & George:
Thanks for following along. Here's a few progress picks. All parts are stained with A & I. Then I dry-brushed them with Floquil Zinc Chromate primer.
Karl
Great color Karl.
Wow , the color looks awesome.
Hey Curt & Jan:
Thanks guys glad you like the color.
Karl
Karl,
Very nice! Walls look used but not abused.
Hey Jerry:
Thanks much appreciated.
Karl
Karl,
For the inside of a coal shed, the interior is wonderfully nasty as it should be. Well done.
Tom ;D
Hey Tom:
glad you like it. Thanks buddy.
Karl
Hi All:
here's a few progress photo. As can be seen I cut the hole on the left side of the back was per the instructions. I didn't put it there at first cause I didn't see A use for it. However after installing the coal bin I realized it was for putting the coal into the shed. I therefore cut it out before installing the coal bin.
Karl
You might want to sprinkle coal dust around that hole where the coal was loaded, both inside and outside.
Just a thought...
dave
Hey Dave:
Good idea. Thanks.
Karl
Hey Guy:
got A little more work done on the interior of this kit. Added coal dust to inside and out side walls per Dave suggestion.
Here's A few pics.
Karl
One more related thought: It might be fun to have a little pile of trash right in front of that broom :-)
dave
Great looking details.
Nice! I really love the workbench. The tools, the dirty smudges on the wood tabletop. Beautiful.
Looking good Karl.....I really like the concrete piers that the floor beams on supported by. It's too bad they are covered up by the siding on 3 sides and only show up on the track side.....they look great. 8)
Karl,
Excellent work on that interior so far. Lookin' good.
--Opa George
Hey Dave:
I put the trash in front of the broom but the coal bucket hid it.
Karl
Hey Curt, Vince, Greg, & George:
Thanks for all the great compliments. Much appreciated.
Karl
Hi All:
Here is a photo of the finished interior. Hope it looks ok.
Karl
Hey Guys:
Opps my figure fell over. I shall fix him.

Karl
Sounds like a lazy worker to me :D Hide the trash behind a bucket, instead of taking it out to the trash can.
dave
Great details Karl.
Hey Dave:
You could be right.
Karl
Hey Curt:
Glad you like it. Thanks much.
Karl
Hey Guys:
Ok I finished the first building today. Did not use the kit shingle. I used Campbell shingles.
Karl
Looks great Karl
Karl,
Wow, another beautiful structure there my friend. Just very well done.
Tom ;D
Another great job Karl.....excellent choice with the shingles. 8)
Hey Steve, Tom & Greg:
Thanks for the great compliments guys. Much appreciated as always.
Karl
Hi Guys:
Working on the Storage & Drying Shed. I had to make A new bottom piece as the on in the kit was to small. The bottom piece in the photo. Board widths in the new piece are A little wider as I didn't have A piece the same size. Probably never be seen when assembled. .
Karl
Looks very nice, Karl.
Cheers, Mark.
Hey Mark:
Thanks for the compliment all the way from New Zealand.
Karl
Hi All:
Got A lot done today. The sand shed is finished except for the sand tower. I'm working on it now. The roof was supposed to be the same as on the coal shed. I decided to use FSM rolled roofing instead for a difference. It is painted with Krylon Flat Gray primer, then an A&I wash and dry-brushed with Apple Barrel Country Gray. Hope the phot looks OK.
Karl
Karl another one for the books. Great job on this one.
Jerry
It all looks great Karl. Are you leaving off the wall so you can see inside or is that the way it's supposed to be built?
Hey Jerry:
Thanks for the compliment. Much appreciated. I'm enjoying this build.
Karl
Hey Cut:
thanks for the compliment. That's the way the kit is supposed to be built. It's an open shed.
Karl
Great looking as always.
Nice work Karl. I always love to see how you achieve your results.
--Rich
Hey Bob & Rich:
Thanks for the compliments. Much appreciated.
Karl
Another great build, Karl. Thanks for the pics and the step by step.
I really like the color on that rolled roofing, by the way. You nailed it.

Karl
Looks really good Karl! ;D
Hey Bob:
Thanks for the compliment. Much appreciated.
Karl
Hi All:
structure is finished. On to the base.
Karl
Very nice job Karl.
Hey Curt:
Thanks much appreciated. Got A little more done this afternoon. All I have left to do is the rear of the scenery on the rear of the building and one ladder to build. Here's A progress Pic.
Karl
Would there be some spilled sand in front of the roof hatch?
Overall I really like the color. I'll probably (scratch) build something similar for the tiny HOn30 engine terminal area on my layout.
dave
Really enjoyed seeing this build come together. I appreciate you sharing, it gave me some ideas for a future kit I have in my stash. You really knocked this one out of the park.
-Steven
Hi Dave:
I assume you mean spilled sand on the ground correct? Let me know OK. I'm glad you like how it looks.
Karl
Hey Steven:
thanks for the great compliment. much appreciated.
Karl
Hi All:
this one is finished. I applied the piping between the sand pipe and the sand tank.
Karl
Great scene Karl.....well done. 8)
