Title: Suggestions For Second Build
Post by: WigWag Workshop on July 16, 2020, 07:42:04 AM
Hey Der Folks!

Now that I am wrapping up on my first build, I am looking for suggestions from you fine folks for my second build. I currently have Foley Hookers Towing and Wolf's Gas and Oil in the stash. However, I would like a go at a kit from another manufacture.  Let me know your suggestions from another manufacture, that might be a good for my 2nd build.

I appreciate your suggestions,

-Steven

Try a small FOS kit.  In fact, he's running a special right now where you to chose from one of three free kits if your order is $50 or more so you could buy one or two small kits and get a small free kit to boot.  The free kits are neat but they don't come with any instructions.  You can easily figure them out though.

My rookie response is something from Carolina Custom Kits. Kits run the gamut from less complicated to full blown projects. Lots of variety and prices.

Is that Carolina Custom Kits or Carolina Craftsman Kits (another groovy choice)?  ;)

Here are few links.  I also included one for KC's Workshop.  I have a few of his kits but haven't built any yet.  From what I've seen a few of those might fit the bill as well.

You might want to give a look at Campbell models. They have been around for decades, have a very broad line of kits from small to large and include some of the best instructions in the business.

Of course, if you want to try something substantially different from a wood craftsman kit, get one of the Downtown Deco plaster kits.  http://www.downtowndeco.com

A company called Monster Modelworks has recently returned to making some of the best laser-cut brick. Jimmy Simmons has great ideas, wonderful products, and he's all-round good guy.

If you want to try something different, the brick engineer's tool shed looks like it's right in your wheelhouse...

Steven,

I also like either Bar Mills or Fos Scale Models for a next kit.  Either one will "up the challenge" just a bit for you.  Check out the Bar Mills Scale Models website for many good short videos on technique. They also have a free, downloadable manual on basic technique in PDF.
Easy to follow and with a good sense of humor.  Doug Foscale of Fos Scale Models also puts out some nice technique videos.

Good point on the videos Opa George.  Doug also has an interesting blog that I find inspirational.  Worth checking out sometime.

Hey Der Folks,

Thanks for all the suggestions, it's greatly appreciated.  I ordered the Tower Two kit from FOS, because he's running a free kit deal.  I picked the Chicken Shack for the free kit. I also have a few Bar Mills Kit picked out, Noah's Knots, Barn at Jacksons Corner, and a few others.  Also like a bunch from Campbell Scale Models, but still deciding which ones (I really want to have a go at one their kits soon).  I really like the Jason Jensen design kits from Carolina Craftsman Kits, and will be adding those to the stash in the future.

Hey Steven:

One of my favorite Campbell kits is Bret's Brewery. I also love their pier kits and the buildings that go on top of them.
