For my last big mill kit (more on this further down) I didn't have to range far for a great design. The Tucker and Cook Cotton Thread mill was auctioned off to the highest bidder 100 years ago in l914. It had everything: unique wood & masonry construction, a dramatic river location, a dam, turbines, rail service via the Conway Electric Street Railway and a location in the heart of Conway's mill district-just down the river from Delabarre.
When I started Tucker and Cook, I was also acutely aware of the fact that I hadn't worked on my layout in several years. I was also getting tired of building these great kits just to have them sit under the layout. So, I grabbed a few of my past kits, stripped the excess scenery off and placed them in a new river/mill complex area on my layout. Next, I built Tucker and Cook to go directly into the layout with these other mills, much, much better way to work.
I also came to realize that I was at a crossroads, so to speak. I'm less than two years from "official" retirement. My wife retired two years ago and we are burning the mortgage in the near future. Also, like many boomers, we now have elder care responsibilities. Now, I do like going into the shop every week but have come to the conclusion that "puttering around" is going to have to take precedence over full-time work. So, it looks like semi-retirement for me. This wont be like my last pronouncement a few years ago where I did just as much work but lowered the price (what was I thinking?). I'm going to keep SRMW going after this kit with much smaller projects – and possibly on a different schedule.
So, it feels like the right time to do this. On many levels, I am really happy with this year's kit. I was able to incorporate several elements and areas of interest related to my study of local mill culture.
NOTE: I'm having a little trouble with my site – getting certain images and spelling corrections to upload. Let me know if you have any problems.

As I have been doing in the past, pre-orders will be announced by email at the beginning of September and the kits will start shipping in Mid-October.

Thanks John, I have never ordered an SRMW, do you subscribe somewhere to get a notice when you can pre-order or do you just wait till 1st of september?

There are instructions at the website in the ordering page on how to subscribe to their newsletter.
Those subscribed get notice of the new kit. Then they get notice when pre-orders are ready. Then they get notice when ordering is open.

The only thing I would add to what Jaime said is that you want to be on his email list so you can order quickly - some of his kits - and I think this one - sell out fast.

Thanks for posting Bob Van Gelder's letter. Just when I thought that I no longer NEED anymore kits, Bob goes and builds another winner. The great thing about SRMW is that when i made my first purchase, i used my wife's computer. So-o-o, now when Bob comes out with a new kit, she gets the new kit information before I do! I mentioned to the wife that there was probably an email on her computer and she knew exactly what it was!!! Love you Bob. So, that being said, I am cutting out cardboard templates of the buildings so I can see where this new kit might go. I have a couple of ideas. Now the big issue is finding enough time to build all the SRMW kits that are currently on the shelf. Life is good. Bob, thanksfor another wonderful kit and I really look forward to building it.

Interesting Frank - I spent some time with cardboard templates this afternoon myself. I may have to use the Jimmy D. rule - you can always fit one more.
