A few years ago I started on the limited edition kit Caldwell Junction. I also scratch-built the follow-up kit the Engine House at Caldwell Junction. Having completed all the main buildings I have decided to try and turn this into an interesting diorama/layout that I can take to exhibitions. When scratching the engine house I reversed the layout of the buildings from the original kit. This now fits in more with the diorama I am planning. The site plan for Caldwell Junction was laid out by Doug on a space measuring 13 inches by 24 inches. I have built two light weight boards measuring 16 inches by 3ft giving me a 6ft run. The original site plan called for east and west bound tracks running through the scene. My thoughts are that these tracks could terminate at the left end at a road with some buildings such a store or pub. All the buildings can be located on the first 3ft wide board. The tracks could then be combined by turnouts on the second board and run into a tunnel to hidden sidings. The terrain at the rear of the buildings will rise into the backscene. Any comments will be much appreciated. Here are some pictures of the initial planning.

Thanks Curt, I got tired of them just sitting on a shelf. I'm looking forward to building the small layout.

Hi Greg. Thanks buddy. The house has kept us very busy with lots of improvements and upgrades to make. We has getting there slowly though. The voluntary job on the restored steam railway takes up two days a week as well, so less time for modelling.
Mike
Continuing.............the good news I thought my boards measured 6 foot. The great news they actually measure 8 foot, so more room for railways.............Result!
Mike
Mike,
Great job, very well done.
I have this one on the A&S RR. Reading Bob built mine - we traded an unbuilt one for the built one.

Mike,
Great to see you back on the bench after moving into your new home.
Always liked this FOS offering with all those RR line side structures.

Things keep getting in the way of modelling. October was busy as we attended three model train exhibitions with either Red Hook Bay or Cheffley. Any way back to the new layout. I have painted the sides of the boards. There are three of them joined together with cabinet makers dowels and clasps on the sides. The total length is 11 ft by 16 inches. After breaking down my old home layout I decided to inventory my turnouts. There were 60 in total all Peco code 75. I plan to use the medium or large turnouts on the layout. I bought some trestles for the layout to sit on while I plan the track layout. Happy days!
Mike
Great progress Mike.
Thanks Curt. Just a few pictures with a proposed back scene in place..............
Mike
Very nice Mike. The background goes well with your build.
Hey Mike:
great job so far. Can't wait to see more and also see the finished product.
Karl
Definitely right Mike about life interfering with modeling.....I can't get going on finishing the projects I have started. The junction is looking good. 8)
Hey Mike:
By the way I really like the engine house.

I am still playing around with the track plan. As this will be an exhibition layout, I need it to be interesting to both look at and operate. I decided to place Schramm's as focus structure at the right hand side. Also the little cabin with the rocking chair will add some animation. I think the lady of the house should be watching over her pecking chickens........... This little taxi office should also get a little spot I think. Thanks guys for following and your support.
Mike
Everything looks great.
I'm putting Caldwell on hold for the moment. I am not happy with the width of the boards. An extra 6 inches would make a great deal of difference to the feel of the layout. However the boards will not be wasted as I intend building a narrow gauge Austrian style layout on them while I ponder on Caldwell.

Well done with this project Mike.....looking forward to the next. 8)
Mike,
It's all very well done. The diorama will be another winner for sure.
