Afternoon All,
Unfortunately I don't have a decent picture to post of the structure but it appears to be 3 main buildings and some small attached sheds. Today I started on the Tichy window frames. I first painted them with Rustoleum Kahki. After that I used a makeup sponge to put on the red highlight color followed by 2 coats of A&I. To finish up today I sorted the different size wood strips. Tomorrow I plan on A&I'ing the wood strips and start on the bag of detail parts.
The colors that I am using are:
Tamiya XF-1 Flat Black for the interior and mixing winto the red.
Tamiya XF-5 Flat Green for the walls
Tamiya XF-7 Flat Red with Flat Black mixed in for wood trim and walls.
Nice start Curt! :D I'll be following along. I've had the pleasure of seeing Doug's pilot model at the EXPO a few years back. It's a beauty for sure.
I'll be looking in..... :)
Hey Curt:
Looks like you are making progress.
Karl
Curt,
Great start on this one. Can't wait to start mine.
The photo on the box is very bad. I'm surprised Doug let this go out like this. Anyway, I cleaned it up the best I could.
Here is a photo of FOS' R.E.A. Freight House.

Wow!
Great kit. Will most def need lots of trucks on that one. Looking forward to the results.

Curt,
I'll be following along. This is a very interesting structure with its different buildings, loading docks, etc. It will look great on your layout. i grabbed this photo from Doug's website and enlarged it a little to better show what you are building.
Interesting how the color of the right side 2 story building in the first photo looks blue and then green in the one Tom posted. ???
Afternoon All,
Thank you Bob, Greg, Karl, Tom, Jamie, and Jerry for your kind words and following along.
Also thank you Tom and Jerry for posting pics of the build from FOS.
Current progress has the bracing on the walls and the interior walls have been painted Tamiya flat black.
Off to a great start, Curt.
This will be a pretty sizable project. I'll be watching your progress. Colour scheme looks good.
Cheers, Mark.
Good start Curt! Looking forward to seeing this one built. I really liked it when it came out but I'd never have a place to use it.
Sorry, these are not the best quality photo's but here are a few I took of Doug's pilot model on display at the EXPO (in Altoona I think).

Good Morning,
Thank you Mark and Bob.
Thank you for the photos Bob. They are actually better than online I think. Do you by chance have any of the other side? Thanks again butty.
You're welcome Curt. Sorry, no shots of the back. Those I posted are everything I have. :)
Curt,
That structure screams railroading !!!
Will watch and see what you can do with this build.
Tommy
Really looking forward to this build, and thanks to Bob for the pictures of Doug's build. Wish you had taken some shots of the back.
Mark
hi All:
I build that kit when it first came out. It's really A great kit enjoy building it.
Karl
Afternoon All,
Thank you, Tommy, Mark, and Karl, for your kind words and following along.
Karl, I did read your your thread before I started. You did a very nice job.
The first photo is the building plan with the walls numbered and the second one is the current state of the main office. The frustrating thing is cycling between 3 different sources of photos to make sure I'm not messing up.
One signage change that I did (because I wanted to ;)) was put the off black signage on both peaked walls. I wanted to be able to see them on either side of the layout peninsula.
Hey Curt:
Looking good.
Karl
Nice, Curt.
Colours and signage looks great.
Cheers, Mark.
Looking good so far. Good color scheme.
Jeff
Walls look good Curt..... 8)
Afternoon All,
Thank you, Karl, Mark, Jeff, and Greg for following along and your kind comments.
Since the last time I have put the front office together, added an add on structure that spans the length of the office, added 2 exterior lights and 2 interior lights. The next step is adding the freight house to the front office which I hope to do tomorrow. I've reread this section of instructions and looked at the pictures of this step several times since the instructions emphasize the need for being absolutely square.
Afternoon All,
Added the freight house framework. I found it a bit fiddly.
Great progress Curt.
"fiddly".....?

"fiddly".....?
From the Latin word "Diddly". ;)
Looking good Curt! You're really moving along on this one. I hope I can get faster at this once I ditch this annoying day job. ;D
Curt,
Looking great...nice progress.
Back side photos are on the FOS site...
Tommy
hey Curt:
looks just great so far. I think I used A much darker green on mine. I actually think I like your choice better.
Karl
Looking good, Curt.
It sure is a big kit. Are you planning on putting the front track in paving? It looks like the trucks will need it to back into to load.
Cheers, Mark.
Afternoon All,
Thank you, Mark, Greg, Bob, Tom, Karl, and Mark D., for following along and your kind comments.
I have mounted the lighting on both sides of the freight house (3 exterior lights each side). I've finished all the door, window treatments and all the add on walls are completed. In the last 2 days made 2 different errors.
In the first one I was supposed to put "corrugated siding" on the add-on that sits on the roof on the main office. I put the corrugation on the wrong side of one wall (no extra and put on with transfer tape) so after thinking about it I decided to put 2x10 planks on the walls instead. Afterward I stained with Hunterline Med Brown followed by a coat of A&I.
The second one I thought I had put together correctly (based on bracing diagram, instructions, and very poor photo in the instructions). I placed 2x10's on the upper part of the walls of the upper back office. After I got ready to add the decorative pieces, I discovered that they were too long. I went online to look at the pictures at the FOS site and sure enough I did it wrong. Since I couldn't pull the 2x10's off the only option was to shorten the detail parts which I did. In the photo there will be a roof that separates the two parts of the back office. A 4-sided peaked roof with 4 add-on's sits on top of the flat roof.
Next up is putting in the freight house roof bracing which I'm nervous about because the instructions stress how fragile they are and I'm pretty ham handed.
hey Curt:
Like I said looks good and I especially like the colors you are using.
Karl
Afternoon All,
Thank you, Karl, for your kind words and following along.
Since the last post I placed the roof supports (very fragile) requiring several repairs and the next day I attached the freight house roof and happily both played well together. After that I attached an add-on that fits under the roof on the truck pickup side. The smaller add-on room that's on the roof with a roof attached is permanently attached. The large add-on is not attached. Although the instructions say to attach it before adding roofing and 4 vestibules, I will mount it after that. The side that has the long low roofed add-on is trackside. The area by the doors on that side will have a long platform.
Looking good Curt , can't wait to see it lit.
Nice progress, Curt.
Cheers, Mark.
Keeps looking better and better.
Excellent progress Curt.....
hey Curt:
you are quite welcome. like I said great job on this kit.
Karl
