The sun is starting to burn through the fog already this morning. Looks like another beautiful day in my corner of upstate New York.
Pretty quiet here, waiting for the farmer using my fields to come and bale the second cut he mowed earlier this week. The weather has been sunny but cool so it is taking longer to dry down than expected.
I hope everyone has a safe and productive day!

Regular work day for me. My father and his companion are supposed to arrive today for a 4 day visit from Pennsylvania (Womelsdorf). He is bringing his two doggies so Otis will have a lot of playtime.
The drywall hangers finished yesterday and they are supposed to start on the finishing (smoooth) today or tomorrow.

Making some progress on the new layout. 6 days until NNGC and I have some modest goals that I'm looking good on...largely to help me develop a "wish list" of things to look for at the show.
New layout will be (at the time of this posting, at least ::)) partly HOn30 and partly HOn3. Some of you know I'm basically in HOn30, but I really want to have a nicely scenicked loop of HOn3 with a beautiful Blackstone steam engine for the sake of my 15 month old grandson...the same sound effects that I grew tired of in my previous foray into HOn3 is suddenly on the menu again - for his sake. None of my kids went beyond a respectful appreciation of our crazy hobby - but maybe grandson Miller is "the ONE" ;D
99% of my equipment in HOn30, so the busy little industrial port area will be in that gauge, with a largely hidden loop for continuous running. The bulk of the allotted space will be a HOn3 Georgetown Loop - inspired twice-around, with minimal turnouts & structures...but, hopefully, grand dramatic mountain scenery with a deep gorge down the middle.
I'll share more in my dormant layout thread when things come together.

Today I worked on the joists underneath the track and ties. I used double-stick tape to put a piece of paper at the ends of the tie strip, and then marked the exact location of the abutments.

Then I cut away the abutment side, sanded the angles onto the first pair of joists, and used double-stick tape to position them, butting against the 1-2-3 block that represents the abutment. I sanded the second pair of joists, and glued them into place. Then I removed the paper and glued the first pair of joists into position. I continued for the rest of the trestle joists.

Here are the corbels that span the joist joints. The trestle bents attach to them.

I stained the corbels, glued them into place under weights, and will test-fit the result again tomorrow. If necessary, I can hold down the joists and lightly sand the ends to fit snug against the abutments.
