Hi folks,
I was remembering what a visiting friend said to me one time..." why do you need a workbench in the garage and one in the basement." My answer was "because"!
It got me thinking on how many "formal dedicated" work surfaces do I have: 7
- three in basement for computer work, woodworking and one for train stuff
- two in garage for dirty metal work and one for sawing
- one in greenhouse for planting,, etc
- one in office for series photo and financial work
How many do you have?

I have five areas I where I work.
1. Computer desk where I check email and do all the forum threads.
2. Workbench where I build layout models.
3. Workbench where I make freight car and brass loco repairs. DCC installs when needed.
4. Of course the layout - track work, wiring and scenery.
5. Tool shed.

I could give you and the others here an answer IF, I cleaned them up and saw actual working surfaces so I could count them. Best recollection is garage, one, basement two, and a temporary.
Off to see friends in New Jersey today. They are in their late 40's and have no kids. The husband is Jewish. Instead of a housewarming, they are celebrating one of their dogs' birthdays by having a Barkmitzvah. Should be fun.
3 permanent, plus a large folding table I have set up right now. That's too many, "mess expands to exceed the space available." Plus the home office with the computer and the workbench (mostly full of crap) next to the power tools in the unfinished part of the basement.
The idea was one for primary work, the second for cutting and assembly (that has T-Tracks and associated square fixtures) and the third has the soldering station.

Morning all.
I have my computer area which is adjacent to the workbench for building structures, rolling stock, DCC installs, etc. Also a table saw/drill press area in the lower basement (under the garage). The layout looks like a work area, as there is stuff all over it. :o
Hot day here today. I got a lot accomplished yesterday, just nothing layout related. I'm heading out to lunch later, might wash the car this afternoon and need to mow in the next couple of days. Hawkeye football this evening.

Morning all,
Let's see....3 workbenches with a total of about 1 square foot of available workspace. ::) Two out in the garage that are in desperate need of a cleanup but that'll have to wait until the temperatures drop. My primary is in the living room. It's a mobile workbench that I can wheel out of the way when we have company.
Think I'll spend some time at the workbench this afternoon.

I've 2 Workbench and an annex
- 1 for the computer area and homework
- 1 for all the train purpose
- and an annex dedicated for curing the stock freshly paint, or plaster, or all thing in waiting.

Marty, have 3 locations at home. All year round at the basement work bench, the upstairs computer desk when it's really cold downstairs, and outside in the garage area for painting like priming castings and staining wood from May thru October only. We could add a 4th place...at a desk in the storage room of the business for only coloring slate shingles with markers and applying Campbell shingles to pre cut roofing sections.

1 workbench in layout room for soldering and electronics
Toolshed with all power tools , sawbench, miter, router, cutoff saw and a large workbench for all larger work.
