Title: Friday October 11, 2024
Post by: jerryrbeach on October 11, 2024, 07:17:50 AM
Good morning.

The door is unlocked and the coffee is on.  Water for tea and hot chocolate is heating, and there is some Diet Pepsi on ice.
There's eggs and bacon, pancakes with blueberries, and maple syrup.  If you want anything else besides toast you're on your own this morning.

I'm continuing to try to increase the number of cars in my freight car fleet.  Right now that consists mostly of digging out cars I built many years ago and replacing broken parts, making sure the trucks roll freely, and the couplers work correctly.  Sounds like it should be quick and easy, but I'm finding lots of damage from being stored in boxes for so long. Nevertheless, I am making progress, albeit slower than I would like.

I hope everyone has a safe and rewarding day!

Morning all.

Glad to hear our Florida friends checking in yesterday without major damages.  No rain here, we've had one day of rain in the last  month.  At least the corn is drying out for the harvest.  Going to get to 87 here today, probably last day of 80s for awhile.

Hope to continue some layout work over the weekend.

Word went out around the neighborhood about 7:15 last night, and we all rushed out to see the Aurora.  1O3A2677.jpeg

I saw the pink glow, but not the streaks, with my naked eye.  Camera and phone sensors are much more sensitive to low light situations, and the neighbors with outside lights on didn't help.  But anyway, that was fun.

More work on the trestle today, the tension rods aren't going in as smoothly as I hoped.  But I also did some work on my Masonic Lodge interior, and ordered some HO furniture from Etsy to add to the scene.

Morning everyone

Thanks for the coffee and breakfast Jerry.

Weather in South Jersey sunny/46.  Later on 70.

Not sure what's on the agenda today.
I do need to finish putting the covers on the outside furniture.
And to build a diorama platform.

Everyone have a wonderful day!!  :)

Morning, RIP Benjamin...found our overweight cat laying on one of his toys this morning. Other sad news received on Facebook this morning is John Tews, the Director of the Milwaukee Trainfest event for many years has passed...he built that show up to what it is today...Tommy

Tom,

I'm sorry to read about your loss of Benjamin.  Obviously he was a well loved part of your family.

Morning all,

My condolences to Tom on the passing of Benjamin.  :(

Just finished bagging the debris in the yard and mowing.  Two large yard waste bags.  Still some clean up to do.  I didn't trim, edge or run the leaf blower because I was too pooped at that point.  There's always tomorrow.

Yesterday I paved (asphalt) the driveway for the mobile home.  Today I hope to put some dirt, grass, weeds, etc. on the base.

Have a great one!

Checking in from Central Florida. All good here...power came back on around 5pm. I got to play chainsaw hero of the neighborhood. My family business in NY is doing tree work, so lots of years of reps involved...scariest part of a hurricane is all the Dads showing up with their chainsaws, treating them with the respect due a rake or broom. Several times I had to stop an eager cutter from missing an obvious (to me after years of experience) weight-bearing limb that would have pinched their saw bar or much much worse if they kept at it. All good - noone hurt. Still lots of raking this weekend, but could have been much worse. My yard is littered with twigs, but no trees or even significant branches down  8)

I've stepped away from the layout for a few days, being endlessly frustrated with a predictable derailment point on a curve, where a large bridge will someday reside. I've narrowed it down minutely, but just haven't been able to cure it yet. I'll get it this weekend or die trying...the distraction & lost power might have averted a violent reaction towards my track work  ;D

Lots of people, particularly on the West Coast of FL had it much worse. Nothing to complain about here. Have a great day!

Good Morning;

Checking in from Central Florida. Clean up of our yard complete, was very little in our area. Much more just up the road.

First, RIP Benjamin, family is family and always missed. As for myself I am enjoying the challenge of bringing Pam's Flour Mill up to the next level in quality and detail. Gives me a chance to truly understand how some of my equipment can be used, such as using the laser on low power to cut through textured paper in a way that no edges are stuck and you do not see the white color of the unprinted middle of the paper.

So off for the toast and coffee Jerry offered and back to playing with trains. Have a great day folks.

Jim

Morning all,

Been without internet for the past 18 hours.

Very sorry to hear Tommy lost Benjamin. I'm been more upset with a pet loss than some of my family members.

Have a great rest of the day everyone.

Tom
