Title: Monday October 14, 2024
Post by: restocarp on October 14, 2024, 07:43:03 AM
Morning all,

Not a lot of time at the bench of late, but I did get over to Timonium this weekend to visit with friends and resupply some items. Hope all are well.

Here is a photo of a pair of stone rowhouses from the Hampden neighborhood in Baltimore that I built last year.

I posted the following yesterday late but want to make sure the word starts to get out:

;D A late check but I do hope everyone  gets a chance to read this.  I am working with Rusty to make this years  winter challenge something special. My hope is to get the great modelers of this forum to share their best modeling techniques as they produce models of true distinction. In addition I hope to make it worthwhile for as many other train modelers to join our forum and join the challenge. I expect to roll out the Winter Challenge first week of November. Get with me if you have some ideas for the challenge and tell your modeling friends to join and stay tuned, I guarantee it will be worth it.

Matt...very nice indeed.if I didn't see your hand in the photo I'd think that was the 1:1 prototype

Jim...anxiously awaiting your rollout

Morning, all.

Awesome structure, Matt.

Looking forward to the challenge.  I'll be having surgery mid November and be off awhile, so I should be able to participate.

I bought two brass locos at an online auction.  Put them on my test track with a Non DCC throttle as they looked like they'd never been out of the box nor run.  This one barely moved and then stopped.  Taking it apart it looks like it has a very old DCC board in it.  Odd though, there's only one wire to the tender and I think it's for the light (therefore it should be two wires).  More investigation on this today.

The other loco motor runs on non DCC, but the wheels don't move.  I suspect something broken in the drive.  I'll fix this one before I even attempt that one.

Good morning.

I'm back from a grocery run. Looks like yet another rainy day here in upstate NY.  I'm still plugging along on my freight car fleet.

Matt, when ever I see one of your finished models I run out of superlatives.  Absolutely outstanding, but that does not describe it.

I hope everyone has a safe and productive day.

Dr Jeff, suggest removing the motors and seeing if the wheels (and gearing) run smoothly.

I made significant progress on the wood truss bridge, all that's left is adding the wood compression members that go just behind the outrigger/sway tension rods.

Here's the plans I'm working from, in the Mallory "Bridges & Trestles" book:

Morning all,

Great photo's this morning.  Matt - Wow! What else can I say?  Dave - The bridge looks great.  Well done!

Good luck with the loco repairs Dr. Jeff.

A contest sounds like fun, Jim.  Count me in.  I've got time.  ;)

I hope to wrap up my mobile home/lab build thread today and then move on to a small Downtown Deco build before I dig into a FOS kit.

Have a great one!

Wood truss is DONE!  I need to finish scenery underneath, and then glue the bents into position.
