Title: Mexican Boat Repair & Bait Shop - O scale
Post by: robert goslin on January 07, 2025, 01:54:09 AM
This is a recent structure I completed for my mini Mexican layout
Using blue XPS foam to represent stucco walls.
Have carved in some cracks and broken render with exposed block work, and rounded the openings and corner edges for that adobe look.

And then decided on a colour scheme. Pink, with the lower section in red.
The colours were applied with a sponge to give a peeled paint look.

I then added some extra stucco detail above the front doors (red) , and painted the top section white.

And made up the front doors. Balsa sheet for the panels, and thinner basswood for the framing. Grain added with an Exacto blade.  Then painted

Close up

The rear door was made with stir sticks

I then added the roof. Used 5mm balsa for the sub-roof. The good thing about 5mm balsa is it doesn't need any further bracing but is very lightweight.
Just have to angle the bit that sits in top of the walls.

Added some panels (stir sticks0 under the rear eaves.

Added the (plastic) corrugated tin panels to the roof

Then painted it in rust colours and also used some pastels

Finally added a bunch of signs.  Some from the Web, others I made in Excel.
Also added some scratchabuilt hinges to the front doors, And some handles,
and the windows which were made from balsa.

Rob,

Your carving of the blue foam is fantastic. I love all your structures. The doors are very realistic looking. Very well done sir.
