Title: Monday January 20
Post by: TomO/Tloc on January 20, 2025, 07:23:35 AM
Good morning Crew. Today I will purposely watch the television for something other than Hockey or the NFL. History in progress is always interesting to see

So. Central Wisconsin weather is ok. Actual temperature is -7 but the "real feel" fka the wind chill is -5f degrees. Later we will hit +7. Not quite the Polar Vortex weather predicted by the guessers.

The coffee is the Ashpit blended with Maxwell House. I haven't had a cup of hot coffee since High School so only you can say it's good or not. Hot chocolate, juices, teas and the sodas are at the end of the line. I know it's hot! Waffles with Nuetzkes thicker sliced bacon is the main course. Raspberries fresh from the HyVee produce department are also available.

Edit: syrup is from Maple trees in Northern Wisconsin and now costs 2 arms and a leg, up from just 1 arm. The fake chemical  stuff is also available for us diabetics or the no sugar users!

Todays op session was cancelled last Thursday or Friday to protect us from the Polar not happening Vortex.

I'll mainly be in the train room.

Morning Tom and others,

Thanks for breakfast. I'll join you for some hot chocolate as I don't drink coffee either. Love the smell of it but not the taste.

Yes, today is a great historical day. I'll watch some of it but I've had me fill as well.

Cold here at the house - all the way down to 44m BRRRR!  8)

Have a great and warm day ya'll.

Morning all.

Negative four degrees here, up to twelve for a high.  I'll pass on the coffee as well.

I restarted work on the kit yesterday, minimal progress, but back in the saddle.

This pictured loco is my son in law's father's from when he was a kid.  It's a "Treble-O-Lectric" by Lone Star from the early 1960s in England.  Fascinating rubber band drive.  It wouldn't run so he wanted me to look it over.  I broke it down, cleaned and lubricated it but it still has a "catch" in the motor, where sometimes it won't go, but once it gets going it now runs very well.   There's a detailed website about these.  Fixing it would require taking the motor apart, and I'm not that skilled.

It's triple O scale, which appears to be very close to N today.   The grey "cannister" ahead of the motor is to prevent "TV interference".

Mornin' all,

It's a delightful 8 degrees here this morning. With a nice breeze as well. Otis my Corgi loves the cold for some reason.

I have off work for MLK holiday so I plan to spend some time in the basement. I have run out of 1x3s and I need more 2x2s to finish the upper level screen/support walls so I am headed down to the local building supply place.

Have a great day y'all!

Doug

No coffee for me, either.  I love the smell of it, roasting or brewing but am not now, nor ever been a drinker of it.  Too hot and bitter.  Drink dejour back in night patrol days was Dr. Pepper.  The colder the better, Melanie at Jet Gas used to slip one into the freezer some nights.  I'd drop by for a pack of Twinkies and a bottle Dr. P slush... ::)  Settled into diet in my old age as 'life' caught up.  :o a little harsh for the system, diet Coke is more often in the fridge here.

Historic day on hand, I'm glad to be able to see it happen.  Years of hatred and snarky comments for those views are over, I hope.

Cold here. 30the last I checked.  No new snow but "they" guess maybe 2" to 6" depending on winds off of Lake MI.

Enjoy the day.  Stay warm, and safe.

Good Morning;

Appreciate the coffee, without which it has been proven the world  not rotate! Well yesterday pretty much finished up football for the season for me. I did see Buffalo made it to next round so I will follow them since it is city I was born in.

Doctor determined foot issue is a tendon not happy so ice it, keep off it, Ibuprofen it and hopefully it will calm down. Sounds like an excuse to work on a model. Have a great day folks.

Jim

Dr Jeff:  Something to try with that motor:  Spin it at low speed and use a pencil eraser to clean off the commutators (the wires on the motor that the brushes touch.)  Sometimes that's enough to work a hitch out of a motor without disassembling it.

We got about 5" of snow, the city just came through and finished plowing the street, so now I have to go dig out the mailbox.  Our plow guy came by about 03:00 last night, good timing as we got less than an inch after he left.

More work on Lamson's roof today.

Good Morning All,

Thanks for opening and breakfast Tom.

Started out the day with a walk at 44F feel like temp.

I've completed chores so I'm heading to the train room.

Jim I hope you get some relief from your tendon.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning.

Single digit with negative number wind chills to start the day.  I can tell you it felt like the wind blew right through me when I was outside earlier this morning.  Forecast is for low double digit high today.  This is only the beginning as the forecast is for lower temps later this week.

I hope everyone has a warm (probably not happening for some of us), safe and productive day!
