I'm trying to complete this half steam, half something critter. I'm not sure what it's powered by.
It is On30.
As of today it is clear coating awaiting decals, a headlight that I'm clueless about location with that radiator cap in the way and addition of final weathering.
The decals are a gift from the Poor Old and Neglected R/R, aka Dan.
The chassis is a Bachmann HO Prairie stripped and ground down to fit. I had to tap one of the wheelsets to accept a 00-80 screw. The original set-up was this pin that held everything together connecting to the steam chest. I'm not really liking the rear portion of the cab but the only solution was to build a mailbox structure to hide the motor.
Upstairs is a plastic floor structure On30 Bachmann Mogul cab. An HO C415 (1965 era) hood reconfigured with 3d doors. The exhaust, sand dome, coupler pocket, steps, and rear tank are 3d prints. The radiator cap is watch parts and a tiny flat head nail. The engineer is from Berkshire wagon driver. Fireman is Grandt Line. Bell is stock Bachmann On30.
I have been working on this off and on for a bit. Hope to finish it up soon.
Philip
Philip that is very cool looking. Have you tried to power it up yet?
Thanks! Yes and it runs great!
Philip, it looks amazing.
Great job!
Thanks Rick.
Philip that is one sweeeeet ride!!! Nicely done and with it running
well even better. Have fun; Nice to see some of your work posted here.
Philip,
Gotta love all critters big and small. Great job on this and the details really bring it to life.
And, it runs as well. Fantastic.
Tom
Neat..... 8)
Howdy Philip, That's a cool and creative critter. Nice job. Have fun, mike
Philip,
Nice critter you have there, well done.
I loved the line " not sure what it's powered by"

Thanks for looking !
I installed the decals and horn last night. I need to get hot on some sort of headlight.
The decal was fiddle. First decal ended in the trash. The backing paper was super thick and I tried early.
Dave it's a 454 Big block Chevy or a 429 Ford or a 440 or 40 HP VW or a.....
Today's progress. The Poor Old and Neglected R/W is on Facebook. Dan the owner sent me some decals in 2021. I'm almost finished applying all the details.
Niiiiice!!!!!
The decaling looks very good and not overdone Philip.
Philip,
Great job on the Critter, love it.
Tom
Thanks Larry and Curt!

I thought I had replied to this one above. Must have clicked the wrong button.
IIRC I said to use a big old steam engine headlight mounted on the radiator, but from what I see that would interfere with the radiator cap. Maybe on a little tower over the radiator cap?

I may do that Bernd. Maybe headlights on both sides. Thanks!
Cute lil bit of go... ???
Howdy Philip,
Congratulations on the nice job on this unique critter. The 3D print work looks terrific.

Thank you, Tom.
Thanks K9 Karl & LTC Mike!
I added a few more items last night and in the process of a stilted headlight.
Fabulous work Phillip; it makes one look at the possibilities of building one. It's very inspiring. Thanx for the inspiration.

Your welcome Kyle!
Here is the headlight I'm printing today in right front. Son of the one on the left... I'm sure it will require some changes. It is suppose to straddle the radiator cap.
The bottom is flat to fit a flat deck unlike the other lights. They have a radius for round boilers.

Thanks!
It printed fine but a bit small in length.
Nice looking lights Philip, hope the printing goes well.
Howdy Philip,
Nice headlight design. How did the prints turn out?
Have fun,
mike
Philip, glad the print went well.
Will you print a longer one?
Thanks Pausing. Heading to the grocery so I'll print it again later. The red was a way small. Center is on deck and if all else fails I'll try the left design.

Thanks, Turned out ok except the bore for the headlight was undersized. Oops!
Philip keep at it; I'm sure you'll get the results you want.

Philip, Funny, it seems I'm always adjusting the size or scale after the first print. Someday maybe I'll figure it out. Have fun, mike
Same here Mike.
Good enough. Now to wire the led in with a 570 ohm resistor and create a mounting point for the wires.
Howdy Philip, The headlight turned out well. It certainly looks prototypical. Nice work on the whole critter. Have fun, mike
Looks great Philip.
Philip, nice work!
Philip,
The light looks great. Well done.

Great job on the printed parts you made to create a unique critter.

Thanks Mike! I'm weathering The loco tonight and planning a shot of dull coat, (army painter brand) outside in the morning. Problem is the cold is moving back in and I don't have a spray booth. So it may go to the back burner until weather permits the final. My Testors dull coat is almost empty.
Next I'm going to build a $5.00 kit I found at the Evansville train show. Forget the name. I'll update with a thread I suppose. It is a very old wood kit with die stamped wood pieces. It reminds me of one of the Joe Fuss laser kits.

Thanks Rick! It runs better than any of my DCC locos! It took some engineering to get the headlight working.
Before the last tear-down on the turner looking shiny for the last time.
