Title: Sunshine Models Frisco stock car
Post by: cduckworth on March 02, 2025, 07:51:45 AM
This was one of the most challenging resin kits I've built. Not only the resin was thick between the slats but the underframe was 8" too short which didn't allow the cross members on the underframe to meet up with the vertical side bracing.  I cut the underframe in two and spliced in Evergreen styrene to get the length corrected.  Rest of the build was straight forward until I got to the decals. The kit was probably 20 years old and the decals were printed on a dot matrix printer. The white dots were so large you could easily see them. I substituted a Frisco K4 for them and was pleased that they worked out. Paint is TruColor.  It's a unique steam era car with the exposed undersides.

After all the difficulties, that came out well. Looks like the SLSF built these for higher ramps. I've only got one stock car on my layout, a P2K. Its floor height is the same as boxcars.

That turned out looking terrific.  Sounds like a lot of work from what you write.  Worth it, I'd say.

Here's a sister Frisco stock car also a Sunshine Models resin build.  Must easier build than the first car.

SLSF 47720 also looks good. It has the floor height I would have expected.
