Title: Bagnell Branch - Enon, Missouri
Post by: cduckworth on March 06, 2025, 06:22:50 AM
Enon is a small town on the layout with a spur into a warehouse and stock pen. The town sits on top the helix and the depot and spur are on the upper level. I scratch built the Kraus Warehouse from photos and field measurements. The stock pens were scratch built from Mopac standard plans using scale wood. Boxcar depot is an AMB kit as well as the coal box and privy. Backdrop is painted acrylic.

Nice. I particularly like the level of effort you put into the ground cover.

The branch originated in 1881 at the a spur near the passenger station in Jefferson City, traveled south through Lohman, Russellville, Enon, Olean, Eldon (crossing the Rock Island and terminating at Bagnell.  In 1927 Bagnell Dam was built creating Lake of the Ozarks submerging Bagnell. The line was abandoned in 1961 but an industrial spur still in service in Jefferson City and has a couple active industries.

Friend of mine hiked the Bagnell branch and documented his journey here.

This is quietly gorgeous.  I can hear cicadas.

Especially impressed by the character of your warehouse.  And your soft-focus backdrop works a treat.

The Kraus Warehouse was originally built as a one story grain elevator. I never really understood the concept but had come across an early 1900's photo of a line of wagons waiting to be unloaded. Later I ran across this image (not of the building modeled) that explained it.

The model was first constructed of Evergreen sheet plastic and then pre-stained wood was glued to the sides. The roof is Evergreen corrugated siding. The elevator was later converted to a warehouse but I'm not sure of the date. The original structure was still standing in the mid-1980's.

There's a track plan in the MRP 2010 but I've since moved the helix into another room so I haven't re-measured it. I'll have to post some images later

Here's an image of the prototype warehouse at Enon.  I tried to locate recently on Google maps and the area is too covered with trees and undergrowth. This photo was taken in the 1980's.

I recall getting a few chigger bites when I was finished getting measurements.
