Last week I visited the California State Railroad Museum.
One of the volunteers gave me a great tour of a post office and described the working conditions which I thought were interesting and surprising.
Here's a link to that video: https://youtu.be/s8aLPgqmvQw
Years ago I got the "Mail By Rail" book (Simmons-Boardman 1951, by Long & Dennis). I've found it an excellent reference for the Railway Mail Service up to its publication date. I may have time to watch the video later, but bills await.
Wow!
I watched it Rick. Thanks for sharing great for you to do the interview!!
Jerry
Very interesting on how they did the RPO stuff. Thanks Rick for sharing.
Tom
Thanks James, Philip, Jerry and Tom for watching.
Loved the video on the railroad post office Rick, looks like you and Star are having great adventures out west..... 8)
Greg, thanks for watching.
I got lucky with the timing getting into that car and the volunteer having time to go into detail about what went on in there.
I was surprised by a few of the things he said.
My dad worked in one of those on the Monon. My two older brothers did a ride along one trip from Louisville to Chicago. The bill of lading had puppies. They were loose, scampering around the RPO free. Great story!
