First a big thank you for all that took the time to enter the contest especially the extra effort to explain how you construct a model and build a diorama. This year we added prizes hoping to gain interest in the contest. In that aspect the contest did not meet its goal. However the entries were uniformly amazing and each offers a wealth of knowledge to those wanting to grow their own abilities.
Of the six entries three were unable to be completed by the official deadline so could not be counted for the contest. Here are the final standings as judged by three NMRA members who have all had judging experience at the national level, all three are also accomplished MMR themselves. They were impressed by the high level of ability shown but commented while pictures are fine actually seeing in person the model is a must to take in the scene correctly and takes seeing detail to a new level. With the Forum limited in its ability to provide only photos we will need to reconsider how to proceed with next years contest.
The amazing dioramas that unfortunately were not completed by the end of March so were not judged are:
Lamson Bash by deemery
The South Tellynott Wedge by Mark Dalrymple
Jeffries Point Build by Zephyrus52246
The 2024 Winter Challenge Winner Circle:
#1 Truck Service Kit by Jeff Firestone.
The prize for Jeff will be a Oddmunn Brother's Mill Limited Edition Kit by Keep It Rusty
#2 Flat Iron Corner Building by Tom Langford
The prize for Tom is The Tower Six at Carter's Crossing & The Scrap Merchant Place by Keep It Rusty
#3 FOS Background Flats by Bob Butts
The prize for Bob will be The Old Boiler House by Keep it Rusty
Thank you to everyone and congratulations to this year's winners!!
Congratulations to all the winners.
And the ones who didn't finish congratulations on a fine job anyway!!
Jerry
Thanks to all who participated, The level of modeling on all the projects was excellent and the presentations in the threads was a great "how to" for all who checked in with the build progress.
Well done to all..... 8)
Congratulations to Jeff and his wonderful rendition of the truck service. Very well deserved.
I had a great time building the flat iron and it was a challenge for sure.
Thank you Jim and Craig for sponsoring the challenge and thanks to Craig and offering the fantastic prizes.
Looking forward to next years challenge.
I think all participants were winners.
Tom ;D
Hello Jim, first of all I want to thank You and Craig for sponsoring the Winter Challenge and putting up the prizes. I don't know what to say about me winning, other than thank you very much. All of the participants did such a great job with their builds.
I'm very pleased to have been chosen the winner for my diorama. I had a lot of fun building the original kit, which was from Jason Jenson, and also the scratch-built smaller buildings to complete the scene.
I hope that future Build Challenges draw more modelers to enter and to showcase the wonderful work being done by Forum members. I know that my own modeling skills have greatly improved because of the influence of the very talented modelers, such as Tom and Bob, that have guided me during my time on this Forum.
Again, thank you very much.
A great job by all the modelers and congratulations to the winners.
Actually, you're all winners.
Congrats to the winners! And the challenge got me to tackle that corner of the layout that I've been staring at for a couple of years, with plans in my head and no previous incentive to take action.
Administrator question: Should I continue my build thread in the contest topic, or start a new thread now that the contest is over?
dave
Congratulations to all!
Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all those who participated!
And extra special thank you to Jim for co-ordinating and sponsoring this challenge.
