The Model60 pledge has really got me going, started on this yesterday and I like it so much so far that I would rather have worked on it then go to work ;)
First the package and the contents. The packaging is very vulnerable for such a fragile kit, I think this should definitely be boxed.

15 page instructions, no text except for a small bit on page 1 , very good drawings however.

I'll just follow the instructions building up sub assemblies.

GC uses a sort of paper/plastic to lasercut the finer things such as railings, this is one of the sides of the bleachers in the auction house.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fjanbouli.com%2Fimages%2Fgebouwen%2Fgcauct%2Fgcauct12.jpg&hash=c15e9153261b8ba601d526563fb97c77ae61bfa9)
And here they are attached to the sides of those bleachers. The instructiuons don't say anything about attaching to the base yet , but with parts this small I think using the base as a sort of jig is the way to go.

GC Laser are neighbors...just across the border up in Cheeseland. I've built their grain elevator background flat and used some of their detail parts. Used their garden trellises and wheelbarrow full of tools. May be getting their concrete grain silos for a complex we're planning for the club. Enjoying your thread.
Thank you Dave. I didn't have any problems doing Model60 today, the next part of the auction house plus painting what I made yesterday took me well over 60
There are lots of fences to be made in this kit, seemed like it would be a bit tedious but found out it isn't. I started by numbering the sheets , yes the instructions have the numbers on them but this made it a bit easier to oversee.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fjanbouli.com%2Fimages%2Fgebouwen%2Fgcauct%2Fgcauct16.jpg&hash=be95f1faa838f6e95cb1e51505f08ce5150f7058)
Short and longer posts to be glued , if you look close you can see the markings where the posts are ligned up with.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fjanbouli.com%2Fimages%2Fgebouwen%2Fgcauct%2Fgcauct17.jpg&hash=12a9d991b3ff557942e255d5d694ce2b8f8135e7)
Do the fences while on the sheet.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fjanbouli.com%2Fimages%2Fgebouwen%2Fgcauct%2Fgcauct18.jpg&hash=ce8459c0c3c9321bedab606529649395b23d9fc8)
Then cut out and voila.

These fences belong to a divider , the rest of the pictures show the build of that.

Next part , the 2 loading ramps.
Leave them on the sheet for now , glue the posts guided by the markings.

One of the things on my to do list now is look up what the auction floor would have looked like.
Jan,
This is coming along nicely. The parts are very delicate looking, I think his will be awesome when complete.
If by the auction floor you are referring to the sale ring, it would have been several inches deep with sawdust or shavings or a mix of both. The ring men kick sawdust over any manure to try to keep the ring itself as clean as possible through the duration of the auction. Some sale barns do use lime on the walkways, both lime and sawdust would be present on the ramps and chutes. The ring could be painted or unpainted steel, usually pipe, though some older barns do have wood ring walls. The wood chutes, gates, and pens would very likely be whitewashed (sprayed with a heavy coat of lime and water), probably annually or semi-annually. Of course, there will be a build up of manure on the lower surfaces, with splatter on higher areas. Also, it is common for the incoming animals to pass over a scale, usually the holding pen right before the ring, and the scale dial readout (or newer digital readouts) are commonly on the wall behind the auctioneer's podium so the buyers can easily read the animal's weight before they enter the ring.
The floor in the buyer's area would also be concrete, usually unfinished, sometimes it will be spread with lime, a few places use a scant layer of sawdust. Most buyers like to check the penned animals before the sale, and thus track whatever they manage to step in back to the bleacher area.
Hi Jan - I'm loving watching this build! I took some pictures of our local (Hackettstown, NJ) commission sale (happens every Tuesday) for research for my own commission sale, which will start with FSM Butcher's Way. I will need to expand the hip-roof barn a bit for the sale ring. The other thing I love about commission sales is that they sell cattle, sheep, goats, chickens, rabbits, and outside, folks set up stands of veggies and home-made stuff & then there is always the machinery sale (so I'll get to model some cool old 1900-20s tractors and farm equipment.) Here are some pics of the area early in the morning before the auction started (except the one taken from the 'out door' from the sale ring - the auction was in play then. On the first pic - the 'in' door is to the far left (out of pic) and the out door to the far right. the door you see mid-right side is for 'issues' (sick animals, problem animals, like bulls, to separate pens). The second pic shows more of the buyers' area - there is always a cafeteria (pretty grubby) since we usually spend at least half a day at the sale.
Wow , thank you TJ, looks like I could make mine a bit more colorful, but I'm not sure. Concrete floors with shavings seems to be the way to go , but I've also seen photo's with soil floors.
I'm going to look for some thin brass rod to make the railing in front of the office , not satisfied about that, and the fence in the sales ring was just to fragile so I'll be making that with brass rod as well.
The fence between the bleachers and the ring was so fragile I think I broke it by just looking at it, so i'll have to make one myself. At first I thought I would make it with brass rod, but the fact that it will hardly be visible doesn't justify spending the time soldering this tiny part. So I decided I would make it out of some styrene rod. In the middle of the photo the tiny holes the posts will be going into.

The rod , I get most styrene rod and embossed sheets from Slater's.

All roof beams except 2 that need to go on later ( this kit really needs you to follow the instructions, the numbers of the parts are the sequence).

Wow! You are doing an amazing job on this - it looks so complicated. I've never seen a model like this before - you will certainly have a show piece when you get done!
Thanks TJ , not complicated as long as you follow the instructions.
So many tiny tiny pieces....aaahhhhhh! Looking great!
Thanks Al, I'm almost done with the tiny pieces , although I'm thinking of making the fences and gates for outside the structure the same way, that or write GC Laser if they can make me some fences and gates separately.
To covering the floor , I needed sawdust , very fine sawdust, this is what I picked up around my radial saw.

This is how it looks after a go through a tea strainer.

And then through a panty hose 50 Den, I forgot to take a picture of the strained product, but it was to my likings.

First piece of the floor , very carefully brushed some white glue on the surface I wanted sawdust to stick. And then just shook on some sawdust and quickly shook off what wouldn't stick.

I was satisfied how that looked so I did the rest of the floor in the same manner.

When the floor was finished I realized I shoudl place my little people before I put on a roof, here all the little people have had their butts or feet dotted with Scenic accents Glue, you leave this to become clear and then it is sticky.

It's looking awesome! I love the sawdust all over the floor (probably could use a little cow dung :-) The people are great additions - I especially like the guys in the bleachers at the auction ring. By the looks of the cows, it's an Ayrshire dairy that's being auctioned off. Absolutely love your work!
Jan, the sawdust floor looks fantastic!
For cow dung, try a very small drop of gel CA swirled around with a pointed toothpick on a piece
of foil, so you can paint it, get it loose, and drop it naturally in the sawdust.
I ain't gonna go any further on how to drop it naturally! ;D ;D ;D
Me and the Ledbetters know about cow dung! ;D ;D ;D
I can't imagine this in N-Scale - I can't even send jokes that small!
Thanks guys
There will be more animals auctioned off , I was thinking it was a farmers auction day where all kinds of animals were put up to auction not just one kind like cows, there will also be a farmers market on the premises, would that be a realistic scene even at a large auction house like this?
Yeah, you need a couple of prize hogs, and maybe some horses as far as animals go. You might even have a couple of pieces of equipment too.
Really a fantastic model! Even more impressive to me is that it is N-scale. :o
It would absolutely be realistic to have a farmers' market. At our weekly auctions, people sell eggs, vegetables, canned stuff, veggies from their gardens, etc. Some even sell baskets, little wood planter boxes, etc. They come every week. We also have hay for sale (usually done before the small animals and livestock) - the chickens, ducks, and other fowl & rabbits are sold before the cattle, pigs, sheep & goats. Back home in Vermont, we also had a machinery auction (commission sale) every other week with tractors, farm equipment, etc. So there are a lot of possibilities!
Thanks again , ideas are going through my mind, auction with farmers market , or auction as part of a county fair with maybe even a Merry Go Round and a Shooting gallery and a podium with a baking or eating contest or would that be too tacky?
Jan,
Outstanding work! Great model, great job! Very clever solutions by the manufacturer to make such finely constructed fencing do-able.
-I didn't see how or when you colored all of the framework
-what are those ingenious figure holders?
Great Great Great!
John
Thanks John, I spray painted the parts after building substructures , every time I finished adding for instance the trusses, I gave it a layer of light spray with a rattle can. I used a rattle can with white primer , it gives such a light coat that even after several coats it still gives a whitewashed color. Of course everything is white but I found several photo's of these buildings being white, although TJ 's photo's have plenty of color in them.
The figure holders are from a Dollar Store , they are used by florists to make dryflower arrangements and are called floral foam. I also use these to press paint bottles in so they don't fall over easy, no carving needed just press the bottle down. And I use a larger rectangular version to stick my small tools in , files, knives etc.

On the left you can see my small tools in the rectangular floral foam.

Jan,
I been following along with this build and all I can say is FANTASTIC JOB. I really like the sawdust on the floor. Being that my second hobby is woodworking, I have two [2] 50 gallon garbage bags filled with sawdust from my dust collector that I use to make wood loads for cars and I want to tell you that it does take time to sift/strain and sort out the dust in order to make different grades. As far as the structure itself, I have seen these on display at various shows from the manufacture and have always been impressed with there amount of detail offered for the money. 'GC laser' has some very neat and innovative structures. As far as being able to put one together in 'N' scale, well lets just say I have to commend you on this because it can be a challenge in 'HO' scale let alone 'N' scale. You have done a wonderful job on this and thank you for sharing with us you talents. You are a great inspiration.
Jan. This project is really amazing and not just because of the scale. Pack it up and bring it to EXPO 2015! By the way, I am embarrassed when I compare you workbench to mine. Too neat and organized. Jim
You really wouldn't want to see my workbench.......
Thanks guys , I got some N-scale Amish buggy's in today , they are brass and have to be folded , I think i'll need a good folding tool.
I love the photo-etch bending tool from The Small Shop. Not cheap, but solid...very nicely made.

Thanks Dave , I saw something similar on a German site , going to get me one of these , now which one ???
You continue to impress! Great work. Really nice bench, my whole work area is scattered about my office...
Thanks Al , as for the workbench , this was right after I installed the work room ::)
