The reason why this is being built is who the hell knows why!
The subject is named after my friend Rick Schintzler
It was just a trip to Essex Ma. by the four of us Rick, Dave, Marty, Nick & me!
To go the Essex shipbuilding museum.
Basically Dave Revelia idea as he had already built two ship and boat repair dioramas.
Well it was a great day well spent with friends and great memories.
There will be more to follow just wanted to start before beach season starts!! 8)
Well, this should be an interesting thread.
Thanks Ron it would be great if I could remember how to post photos!!!!! :(
Jerry
I'll be following Jerry. Sounds like a great memory.

This is a picture Rick took that really got me thinking of a waterfront scene even if it took 20 years.
Jerry
I made a small jig to build the pier.
Wow! Jerry, like the others before me have mentioned, this will be a great thread!
That's if you really can show something is your posts - like at least a couple of
pieces of wood - joined together? Nice "catchy" name though, LOL
Rich
The last thing I expected today when coming here is to see my name in caps in a thread title.
Jerry, I'm honored to have your project named after me.
Looks like you've got the picture posting sorted.
I know you're much further along than what you're showing so there should be more updates coming soon.
Have fun building it.
Jerry count me in; should be a different kind of thread from what we've seen before.
Enjoy!!
Ahoy! Capt. Jovial Jerry! 8)
Followin~
Rich I've been cutting wood the last couple of days but the heat in the forest is terrible.
But I should have a few scraps around to get going.
Rick it was a privilege to name the thread after you.
Me and Diane have a lot of memories with you.
Thanks Larry for looking in.
Philip glad you here with me.
There will be an update later today Now that I know how to post pictures. 8)

The first bent built. Top piece is 12x12, 2x8 for the diagonal pieces, 4x12 joists 1/4" dowels stained with 2 coats of Sliverwood.

Jerry
Excellent modeling Jerry. It looks perfect.
Jerry fantastic job on the pier/dock!!!!!! I can see where the jig not only made the build process quicker
but every bent looks exactly the same and I bent it sits perfectly flat which isn't an easy task; well done.
Jerry, great job.
Everything looks square and neat.
Nice colors too.
Looks great! Who makes Silverwood?
Curt, Larry, Rick & Philip thanks for all the nice compliments. It really is appreciated.
Philip the Silverwood is made by Builders In Scale.
Jerry
I'm thinking there should be a creek that flows into this pond, so one could be "Up Schintzler's Creek" ;D :D ;) :)
dave
WoW!! Jerry... you've been busy! I guess I'll shut my mouth now...
That pier foundation is built to perfection. There's not one board
out of line and all of the joists are perfectly straight. My hat is
off to you, Sir! I like the way Silverwood is staining/coloring the wood.
Nice work.
Rich
Howdy Jerry, nice work on the dock. It looks terrific, all square and proper. Have fun, mike
Jerry,
Very well done and looks fantastic.
Tom
Dave, Rich, Mike & Tom thank you all for stopping by and giving such nice compliments.
Jerry
I've added the planking to the top. These are 2x12 with two coats of Silverwood, which show up a lot better than the first pictures I posted.
I learn lighting eventually!! 8)

Jerry, looks great!
Jerry,
What Rick said!
Tom
Jerry,
Having spent many years down at the beach, there's no wonder why you can construct
such a fine looking dock! I can hear the cry from those seagulls as they near their
landing spots on this fabulous wharf. Nice coloring, what's next?
Rich
Great looking deck Mike. I really like the coloring.
8) Wow !~ Thanks!
Jerry FANTASTIC!!!!!! I saw a guy on FB, On30 group, who had a piece of white poster board rolled up in the back and the front half flat with a light directly over that. Placed his models on the white background and shot photos with his i-Phone; the white made his work pop.
Hello Jerry, you did a great job on your dock. Can't wait to see the finished scene.
Rick, Tom, Rich, Curt, Philip, Larry & Jeff thanks for the compliments.
Larry I'll have to try that thanks for the tip.
Jerry
OK Jerry, you have a dock, where is the water ;D
Great job on the dock. I'm guessing from the size of the dock, you have some kind of structure for it?
I'm not sure how I missed this thread, but it sure looks intriguing. 8) I'm loving what I'm seeing so far.
Howdy Jerry, the dock build continues to look amazing. Nice work on the decking. Have fun, mike

The inside framing is done. Framing is 4x8 with 1/32" scribed siding. Stained with Minwax Golden Oak.
My lightning screws up the stain.

More to follow later.
Jerry
The outside is made of 2x12 planking coated with 1 to 3 coats of SilverWood Stain.
The doors are stained SilverWood then white over that and peeled with mineral spirits and scotch tape the Chuck Doan way.

Thanks Larry. it an easy way to do peeling and it works every time!
Jerry
You know Jerry, that I now have silverwood stain. I might just have to use some to see if I can achieve what you have shown us. Those wood planks are superb! I know lighting is also a small problem, but the dock pictures (shown earlier) look a little darker than the outside wall pictures, or it may be my eyesight. I was thinking that silverwood stain would be more darker though.
And Larry is correct when saying that you are the master of framing. How did you make the door rollers/pulleys?
Rich
Jerry everything looks top notch. Love the framing and the colors.
Jerry, inside and outside colors look excellent.
And so does the peeling paint.
Jerry,
I see the master framer is at it again.
Great job on the walls and doors, I'm thinking I need to gewt some of that silverwood stain.
As Russ would say, Satisfactory!

Thanks for the nice compliment Rich.
The dock is darker only because I used a dust powder over the silverwood to make it look more worn.
And just so you know I used a brown paper bag on the walls. Lightly rubbing to get a higher sheen.
Rollers are from a SW kit.
I still need to the weather the outside walls a little bit yet.

One thing I forgot to mention on the Silver Wood the more coats the darker it gets so be wise when putting it on. I usually wait to make sure it's dry before doing another coat.

Rich
Jerry,
I agree with the other comments on the dock and framing of the structure. The Silverwood stain on the exterior board is weathered perfectly.
Well done on all of this build.
Tom
Thanks Tom always happy to see you commenting on a project!!

Just a small update. Putting the details on the walls before assembly.
There is still more to do.
The carpenter tools came from Alkem Scale Models.
They are really well done.

Jerry
Jerry as always your framing is impeccable and the coloring looks great. The Rembrandt chalks are defiantly the way to go. Never thought of using mineral spirits instead of alcohol. Looking forward to warmer weather and your next update.
As promised I have one wall framed of a small machine shop that I'm building.
Which will be part of "Schintzler's Pond".
Just in case you wanted know.
Main Frame 8x10
Door Frame 4x10
Studs & Firebreaks 3x10.
All the wood was stained with Rembrandt chalk 411.3 Burnt Sienna.
Applied with Mineral Spirits gives you more time to work with the chalk.
I do have the second wall framed.
The two spaces on the second floor will be windows.
I'm going to make my own.
The bottom two spaces are for the doors.
Don't know when I will get back to my room.
It's chilly in there even with a space heater running.
You can make comments if you wish!
Thanks for the nice comment. As always it's appreciated.
I don't know what I did after you posted but I had to download again.
I've always used the Rembrandt pastels just easy to get the coloring you want. With the mineral spirts you get more time to fool around on how much color you want it doesn't evaporate as quickly as the alcohol.
Jerry
I didn't know you could use mineral spirits with the chalks instead of alcohol. Thanks for the tip.
Jeff
Very nice Jerry.
I didn't think I'd see this thread again.
Jerry, nice to see you back at it.

Whoa! Nice work Jerry!
Jeff, Curt, Rick, Ron & Philip.

Hell Ron I never knew that was why you could use it thanks for telling us.

Once again thank you all.
Jerry
Howdy Jerry,
I thought Schnitzler's Pond had dried up! ;)

Thanks Rich hopefully the deep freeze will go away and I can back in my room.
Jerry
Just so you know I was really working on framing that second wall.
So now it will be doing the outside sheathing and I'm not sure if I want to tarpaper the inside.
And to make a jig for making the windows.

Jerry, as usual, your framing is excellent.

"Honey, I shrunk the framing!"

Hey ... Jerry.. do you remember me??.. It's like I just awoke from a long winters' nap!
Your thread is the first one I read from start to finish, I had to come on board for some well-needed inspiration.
And what a joy it is to see your fabulous framing work again! There' not one piece of fuzzy wood sticking out, nor
one framing stud or fire break out of sync with the rest. And the coloring is spot on!
Are the kits going to be in HO and O scale?? ;) Can't wait to get one...
Rich
I dunno Jerry.
