I decided that I wanted to try a KIR kit to see if I wanted to try a larger kit.
This is a simple and small kit. I plan on coloring and weathering per the instructions. I'll probably start spraying the base coat tomorrow.

Tom

Jerry
Curt, I'm still knee-deep in Drywall Mud, But, I'll be watching this!
Rich
Howdy Curt,
That looks like a fun kit to build and paint. Good luck.
Have fun,
mike
Neat looking kit Curt, I'll be looking in..... :)
Curt, have fun building it and I'll be here to watch.
Neat. This was going to be the next one on my workbench but now I'll swap it out for something different. ;)
Oh boy, two Butty builds to follow at the same time!!!
terry
Oh Boy!!!!! Another build by Curt, I'm looking forward to this one.
Great looking kit and the detail is excellent. I'll find a chair and plop down to watch this one. Have fun with this kit.
Afternoon All,
Thank you Eric, Terry, Tom, Jerry, Rich, Mike, Greg, Rick, Bob, Ron, and Larry.
Today I colored the walls. I started with flat black rattle can followed by heritage brick, Terra Cotto, and Slate Gray. The 3 last colors are craft paint sponged on.
Craig recommended an oil wash in between sones so I have that color on order and it's supposed to be here Tuesday.
After that I cut out corrugated roofing panels that still need cut to 3 different lengths. Then I sprayed the detail pieces in a flat gray rattle can.

Hello Curt, great job on painting the stone walls of your boiler house. I hope that your experience with this small kit encourages you to get one of Craig's larger kits. I'm having a lot of fun with mine.
Curt the wall looks great already!!
Clean looking detail parts.
Jerry
Curt,
Excellent colouring on the wall, it has that black soot look that a boiler house would have.
Curt, those bricks look fantastic already!
Afternoon All,
Thank you Jeff, Jerry, Ron, and Rick for following along and your kind comments.
The roof is as done as it can be until installation. The pieces were cut to 3 different sizes. The painting was a dark brown rattle can, black rattle can on the ends, Vallejo dark rust, MM rust, then AIM light and dark rust, and finally dirty rust weathering powder.
One change I made was the roof cap. The kit says to cut it from heavy paper (provided) but I decided a corrugated roof cap would look better.
I painted the details using a wide range of paints acrylic and craft paints. I also used techniques that I learned from a previous SW kit.

Curt,
Nice coloring on the walls and details.
I tend to like the brown colors rather than dark reds when painting any brick structure.
Although this kit appears to be stones rather than bricks. Thanks for posting.
Rich
Howdy Curt,
I sure hope that roof doesn't leak. ;) It looks rusty! Nice work on the details. The cart wheel and barrels look exceptional.
Have fun,
mike
Roof is looking great Curt.
Detail parts came out really fantastic.
Jerry
Looking good Curt..... 8)
Curt, very nice job painting the roof and details.
Especially like the barrel.
Afternoon All,
Thank you Rich, Mike, Jerry, Greg, and Rick for following along and your kind comments.
Today I finished the kit and planted it on the layout by the RH. I decided to make it a deserted stone building.
Some of my thoughts on the kit and directions.
I wish the door and windows were separate and not in one piece.
I tried the oil paint "morter" and was underwhelmed. This may be because I'm not used to using oils. Craig definitely does well with them
I didn't like the paper roof cap for a metal roof.
The stone detail is outstanding.

Holy Smokes...very nice Curt...Well done!
terry
btw...I like those track stops in front of the F?
It looks great Curt. Nice placement. I wouldn't call it deserted I think it fine for an older building in use.
Jerry
Curt, pat yourself on the back, that's a very well done build. I blends into the scene like it is supposed to.
Oh, and what Jerry said. ;D
Curt, you did a great job building, painting and planting that kit.
Curt,
I echo those before me, an excellent build all around.
I like the looks of the stones too. I may have to get one of Craig's kits to see them up closer.
Rich
Hello Curt, a very nice job on your boiler house kit. It looks great on your layout.
Howdy Curt, that's some nice work on the kit. I also like its location on the layout. Have fun, mike
Great finish Curt..... 8)
Very nice, Curt, especially the stone work.
Jeff
Terrific modelling, Curt.
Looks great.
I make my own ridge capping using double sided tape, tin foil and styrene rod. A bit fiddly but worth the effort. Ridge capping was invented around 1829, so it has been around a long time. I've documented my process several times on my threads. You might like to give it a try on your next project.
Cheers, Mark.
Curt,
I agree with all the others, great job on the boiler house.
Tom
Evening All,
Thank you Dave, Terry, Jerry, Ron, Rick,
Rich, Jeff, Mike, Greg, Dr. Jeff, Mark, and Tom for following along and your kind comments.
Mark I will definitely review your roof cap technique.
See you all on the next one.
Super job on a neat little kit, Curt!
Thanks Bob.
Curt, job well done. Brick work is top notch. Fits right in on your layout. Mark
Thank you Mark.
Curt I can only echo what the others have said. Fantastic job and a great addition to your layout.
Thank you Larry.
Great job Curt!
Thanks Philip.
Curt,
Very nice modeling on the boiler house kit.
Tom
Great job, Curt! Looks like it's been in that spot forever. Blends right into the layout. 8)
Thank you Tom and Bob.
