I got reacquainted with my mower and finished up.

I also take RAW photos as well as jpegs. I use Photoshop Elements for post processing and have faked HDR photos by image exposure manipulation and the combination of the images. That takes advantage of the depth of exposure range in the raw image files.
Never got to the printer cabinet. Our boy cat decided he didn't/couldn't process a chipmunk he'd captured and I was summoned for Kleen up duty. :-[ :P
Was able to catch the last 5 minutes of the Lions victory over duh Bears.
Headed to friends for home made ice cream. ;D. That should be a treat.

The coffee pot's ready as well as the other am beverages. Breakfast cheesy scrambled eggs, home fries, crispy bacon and/or pan sausages.
What's your plans for the day.
It's 50 with a high of 78 in New York. Calling the Vet to get Mr. B in for another round of shots and hopefully talking the Doc into a certain medication to heal the tongue cancer; this is our last ditch effort to save his life. The rest of the day depends on the call. Hopefully today I have a small order for some train stuff for my next project.

I didn't accomplish much yesterday but I did send an email to Brett at SW. He responded back quickly and said the Foundry kits are done and he was delayed because he had to find a new printer for his manuals. He sounded happy with the new ones. He said I should receive a shipping notice today or tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
Today's chores include getting chlorine for the pool. MOH will be back today, but probably around supper time. Her two companions are very slow in the morning.

Work session sometime this afternoon but pick up time is scheduled for sometime around noon. Very unusual as the Crew Van driver is normally very precise on his pick up times. He'll text us 1 hour before pickup. This is our normally Thursday work session but with 2 OPS sessions cancelled this week the opportunity has been seized for an additional session, which means we are all bored!

Karl, I've shot some HDR photos and didn't see the value in it.
What I'd like to shoot more of is photo stacking.
But to do that I'd need my tripod and that's not always practice on my hikes.
Another hike today but Star will sit it out again because it's in the NP.
This hike will be interesting because there's a very steep section that uses ropes to get up.

It's currently 16c (60f) and clear skies. Some modeling got done last night but it was a bit frustrating. I finished the front of the retaining wall (except for the NBW castings) and started the wing walls. For some reason I didn't get the angle for the slope right and trying to correct it only made it worse. After looking at it I tossed it in the trash and attempt No. 2, that went much better.
Very little modeling gets done during the week as by the time i get home from work, have dinner and clean up, I'm usually done for the day. At least the 3-day weekends make up for it. ;D

Breakfast today is coffee, cereal, bagels, yogurt, OJ, and soda.
Started out the day with a walk at 73F and low humidity. It actually felt cool this morning. Yesterday all I accomplished were chores and errands.
Dad fell in the house yesterday because he was in a hurry and not paying attention. Luckily he just has soreness and a skinned knee.
Today MOH will be home late afternoon. Today is also son's 42nd birthday. The extended family is going out to supper tomorrow to celebrate.

It's a sunny 51 with a high of 80 in New York. Got Mr.B his shots now it's wait and see if he starts eating again. Not much bench time yesterday with everything going on. Paid off the Contractor yesterday so that's a done deal. Maybe get outside today and start some Fall prep and also I may see the bench some time today.

Bright sun 8) and pleasant :D yet again in MidMichigan today. Back to work on the 3d enclosure project. The Doll has a funeral and a dental appointment today. I'll just send along the check book. ::)
OPS went well at Keeney's yesterday. Enjoyed a couple of switch trains(locals) that took much of the day's schedule. One was left 1/2 finished at the destination, had all the outbounds pulled and still had 4 inbounds to spot...someone will enjoy that next session. :P Sort of like trying to unscramble eggs.
No big light show here last night. It was nice and clear, tho.

Hiked to the top of Storm King Mountain yesterday.
Then added about another two miles by going to Marymere Falls.
Spent the rest of the day and night here at the trailhead.
Today I'll drive to the next trailhead which is Sol Duc Falls.
I might even hike it today since it's only about 2 miles.
This is Quillayute River which empties in the Pacific Ocean at Rialto Beach.

I'm back from a PT session. I've had a sore hip, and it's the same problem I've had before (muscle stiffness and 'hip joint capsule' soreness.) It's not bursitis, which is what I wanted them to check. So a couple weeks of PT should fix it. Apparently diabetics are more susceptible to this (like so many other things....)
After a store run and walking the dogs, I'll head down to the train room.

Good Morning All,
Today for breakfast is coffee, cereal, bagels, muffins, english muffins, OJ, and soda.
The ER trip turned out a bit more serious than hoped for. Dad has a hairline fracture of his right knee. The brace that he is wearing makes it almost impossible to walk so I'm breaking out the walker that dad hates, but it's safer than a cane. This morning is his first ortho appointment. I'll find out how many appointments he will have including PT. Of course he can't drive now while his leg is immobilized.
The one piece of good news is that I recieved notice yesterday that a shipping label has been created with USPS from SW! ;D

We're waiting on a contractor that will give us a cost estimate for removing some stumps from trees we had cut.

Today my youngest daughter turns 36.
I posted my plan for the day yesterday but that changed and even that plan will probably change. ::)
I said I was going to the waterfall trailhead but decided to go to Port Angeles and treat myself to lunch to celebrate my 3 year long journey.
Had an excellent burger and they by luck had my favorite stout on tap.
Being in town I was much closer to a different I hike I was going to do so I drove there.
I get here and find out a fire had started not far away and there was a smokey haze and it was getting worse as the day progressed.
Before the sun went down it was like being in a fog bank.
If it's still that smokey at sunrise I won't do the hike.
Don't want to breath in all that smoke and can't take pictures either.

Morning clouds burning off, for another nice early fall today. I spent some time on the phone with Medicare, about an anesthesiologist charge they didn't pay. "So if the hospital uses an unauthorized provider, they eat the charge?" Her: "That's right." Me: "Ooh, I like that answer, HCA can pay. I was thinking, 'I was on the operating table with my butt hanging out. Was I supposed to ask the provider, 'Do you take Medicare', and what do I do if he says no? Roll over?" She laughed. "I'm glad to make you laugh, you probably don't get that much in your job."

The Ortho visit went much better than expected. His Fx is longitudinal so the tendons are not involved. The doc said don't use the brace. The noticeable pain will last a couple of weeks then start to taper off. No PT and next Ortho appointment is in 6 weeks to check on healing. ;D

Our afternoon will change if the Son in Law is still in the ER at 3. We will need to pickup the granddaughter up at the high school and haul her into Madison for a therapy session. The middle school grandson gets out 30 minutes after his high school sister but he has his scooter to get him home where 1 of us will be waiting. It's why we moved here close to the grandkids, if they need us, we are available

Started out the day with a walk at 73F and low humidity but damp from rain. Yesterday I unloaded the van from MOH's trip. After that I was done. I can't remember if I posted about Dad's Ortho visit but it went better than expected.
Today is floor day for me. MOH and I are discussing a trip next May to the EBT RR and another visit to the RRMPA and Strasburg RR.
Shipping status on kit shows that it still has not been delivered to USPS. :-\

Little new to report here this morning, we took a road trip to the W and S sides of Grand Rapids yesterday. I made a visit to the model rail 'estate sale' store and the Doll made a stop at a couple places she enjoys. We ran into and had a brief chat with Bruce Chubb as we were leaving the famous Mr. Burger on 44th St. in Kentwood. Invited to ops there this Saturday. ;)
Today is a beautiful sunny day with low numbers and mild temps. Dinner with my 'bride' today after PT gets done. Some progress on the 3d system was made last evening.

There was a nice sunrise at Hurricane Ridge yesterday so I ended up doing a little more than a mile on the trail taking pictures.
Smoke got worse when I finished so I left.

The Inca Gold duo are excellent. I've loved that song ever since the Righteous Brothers released it in 1965.
Yard was finished in record time yesterday. It was 75 with a slight sea breeze.
Rick, yes, I'm in the train shed today but cleaning up after the scenery redo.

Good morning Crew. Thanks to all for the anniversary wishes as I also extend them to Karl and Doll on their year 25. Wow time flies and I remember 9/18/1976 very vividly. God I was sacred! Dad told me that morning she was a good one and not to F it up. He was very right, best thing I've ever done.
2:25 I will be at the Endocrinologist, for my 6 month check. I think all is well. Then we 6:30 dinner reservations at a new to us place.
There might be a quick run to HomeDepot somewhere in between or tomorrow or whenever. Returning an item purchased yesterday.
Texted with the son in law. He said either he over medicated last night or the stones passed as he has no pain this morning. He has to strain his urine and he didn't notice anything but...
He was hoping for a good morning. His plans today were to be out in his vineyard but his 2 part time employees can handle today without him. It's not harvest time yet but it's getting close.

Good Morning All,
Today for breakfast is coffee, cereal, bagels, english muffins, OJ and soda. I occasionally like a english muffins with blackberry jelly on it. ;D
I think after the daily chores there isn't much planned for today. The kit status still shows the PO hasn't received the kit :(. So much for getting it on Saturday.
I'm a little peeved at the VA now. I knew my previous PCP was transfered to another state but expected to stay with the same care team, and that was what I was told would happen. So, when I had an expired medication that needed to be refilled I was surprised to discover I was now with another care team without any notice. :-X. The new team also handles the facility urgent care needs so I don't know how that will work out. Sorry for the rant.
Anyhoo that's all I have.

Well it was a sad sad day here yesterday. I had to put my best friend to sleep. He was getting weaker by the day and he was gone in about 1 minute; I'll miss Mr. B.

I'll put a jar of homemade grape jam next to the blackberry jelly. My wife's first try at jam, she used less sugar than the recipe and apples instead of commercial pectin. I checked my pawpaws again, nothing ripe yet. This is quite late, might be the drought we've been in all summer.
It's sunny on the NH seacoast, with low humidity and wind forecast later. No rain in the forecast, Gabrielle is expected to make a right turn East of Bermuda. I've got a report to write for the trolley museum, then probably work on my Swift reefer scratchbuild. I undid some poor work last night and sorted through Northeastern wood on hand.

It is good to see the site continues to grow and provide a place gather and share ideas. I need to restart my own layout posting but frankly I have been just enjoying seeing everyone else's.
Well, need to get stuff ready for our trip to Georgia latter today. The Boss is part of a dragon boat racing team. They compete in the breast cancer survivor events and a big one is this weekend in Macon. I will be rooting for her and doing some computer design work for my next model. Droving to the trailhead yesterday there were signs saying the road and the trail were closed because of a fire.
Fortunately I had a plan B and that trail was open.
Climbed to the top of Walker Mountain.
7.32 miles and 2,096' of EG.
The climb up was a tough one.
Non stop uphill at an average grade of 15%.
Views at the top were nice but obscured some with smoke.
The biggest fire in the area is the Bear Gulch fire which has been burning since July.
I learned an interesting thing about forrest fires from park employees.
Lightning starts a lot of fires but I mentioned not seeing any thunderstorms while here.
They told me a lightning strike could smolder for a few months before bursting into flames. :o

Jerry, et all, sorry for the health care "system" issues. Plenty of that here where our coverage is constantly under threat. The county I retired from just cut over $8 million from their budget including all of the Sheriff's road patrol and the kids 4H services and so much else. Embarrassing to me. Just subtle shift of the leanings of them that be in charge. Defund the PO-lice strikes close. All we'll have is the state police who while they have purdy cars and sharp threads are totally lost once beyond 1 1/2 miles of an expressway, or news camera. Their PR staff is bigger than our road patrol...was. -End O'rant-
ACLTom while never seen DaVinci I find the total flumoxing in video production to be status quo for any attempts I've made to learn. Severely limited my attempts. Adobe Premiere Elements is my poison of 'choice' in past tries.
I did finish up the 3d printer enclosure vent system, now to relearn the printer process. :P
Rick, that forest fire, now more dramatically called, Wild Fire Control is big time ball breaking work. Also very good for the fire truck factory KME in Wyoming, (W. Grand Rapids.) When I passed their shop Wednesday they had dozens of minty green US Forest Service fire rigs and chassis for more at their facility. I also saw half a dozen conventional style red CalFire rigs ready to ship out. Big bucks for the Michigan economy.

Good morning from 70f degrees in Wisconsin. They say (again) the 80 degree temperatures are done but the NWS is usually wrong.
Healthcare. My appointment yesterday went very well. I can truly say the 2 health care systems we have been over the years have been excellent with few minor glitches. Since 2014 retirement being in the UWHealthCare system has been pretty seamless, very good doctors and good scheduling. Before that 34 years in the Marshfield Clinic's system was awesome. They have since been merged or acquired but we left when I retired. I feel for you guys with all the issues you write about with your providers. We r lucky here! My sister in California, her healthcare is a clusterf..k to put it nicely. All her "approved" doctors are individual entities and do not communicate with each other.

Started out the day with a walk at 72F and slightly higher humidity. Yesterday the kit finally made it to the post office! ;D Projected delivery is Monday. I think it's more likely Tuesday.
Today after chores is wide open. MOH and daughter were supposed to do some spa thing but it was canceled last night.

I finally posted my first Davinci Resolve video yesterday. It is very basic but a pioneer effort on my part. I've learned a lot and more to learn but, I'm on the way. All I did was combine four videos I already had and added some title pages. Today I'll try something new.

Yet another day of faux Summer starting in Michigan, forecast does include a chance of rain late in the day and into tomorrow...what a giant sucking sound that will create if it occurs.
I'm getting around to run over to the S Side of Grand Rapids to an ops session at the Sunset Valley. I'll be excited to see what the crew has been working on in the 2-3 years since I've been there.
I fired up the 3d printer station and was able to print one of the pre-loaded rook devices off the thumb drive. My ventilation system worked well ;D , it was quiet and there was no odor complaints. Just need to fine tune my skills and give it a go on a couple other prints the next few days. I did encounter extreme difficulty in removing the rooks from the build plate, futzing one in the process. :o

A really cool morning here with the temperature currently at 4c (39f), but at least the sun is out. It is supposed to go to 17c (63f). Ended up working most of yesterday but did manage some bench time last night. I finished the retaining walls for the west side of the valley and I installed it this morning. I posted a small update last night on my layout blog.
Lucky me, I get to work again today but should only have to work till early afternoon, after that the rest of the day is mine.

We will have the grandkids for a few hours today. The daughter and a friend will use the tickets to the 11am Wisconsin/Maryland football game today. The Son in law is feeling better but the kidney stones still have not passed. So he's staying home to relax and maybe sleep if we have the kids. It's no issue for us. It's a must win game for the UW overpaid football savior coach now in year 3 of a rebuild they really didn't need to start. He moved completely away from a ground based attack with huge Wisconsin bred horses in the O-line. But the AD wanted something more exciting even though he was one of those horses in the O-Line in years past.

Rick, chair came out OK, see the picture on my build thread. That's quite the hazy sunrise! Sorry the conditions aren't better for walking, even if they do make for some interesting photos.
I dug out the Wichendon kit instructions and started reading about the 2nd story interior. I'll start building all the kit-provided parts for that today, along with a trip to the store and a trip on the exercise machine. It's World Paella Day today, so that's what I'll make tonight. (Actually, I make "Rice with Stuff", I don't make the 8-ingredient Valencia official paella.)

Mike asked: I had the same problems and bought a Wham Bam build plate, and it solved my problems with print removal. Do you have FDM or resin printer?
I have a resin printer Elegoo Mars 3Pro I have one of those magnetic build plates to put on soon. I do have an older 3 post printer that uses weed eater cord ;) Its troublesome, and noisy. No where near the resolution of resin or even the current Much less expensive units now available.

Saturday was a slow day for me, but I did cut out the foam and thin plywood rectangles for the base of the kit (11x14) then glue them together with white glue and clamped them together overnight.
Today after chores I'll clean up the edges and probably paint it earth brown.
Kit status shows it made it to Orlando this morning so Monday delivery looks good. ;D

Our Daughter came over yesterday afternoon and we stopped at a local grower and bought some small pumpkins and also at a nursery and picked up a couple of Mums that she had purchased at work through a fund raiser. Rick, a bit of advice from an old bill collector. Make sure the financial aid included the Doctor fees. I saw too many unknown "thought that was handled" bills show up months later. Doctors are notoriously slow billers. It should be included but don't wait for a surprise and in 60 days check your credit report to see how the hospital reported it

Been very busy today. Grocery run, bowling practice, fixing landscape lights and cleaning the weeds out of the rose garden.
In the train shed now working on another video. Not going to publish any tine soon. I'm learning how to fade in and out and add some additional sounds.

Today for breakfast is coffee, cereal, donuts, bagels, english muffins, OJ, and soda.
Started out the day with a walk at 74F and moderate humidity. It's going to be a hot week. I see that my kit has made it to the local post office for delivery. I should see it late afternoon.
Yesterday after chores I painted the base in WS earth undercoat and it's ready. I also put up the spare table I use when I build a kit.
Today is laundry, chores, and weekly pool upkeep.
Terry I said your comment makes me cringe because of the Walmart black Friday part.

It's a partly sunny 55 with a high of 78 in New York. My cell phone was giving me issues with dropping the network for some unknown reason. Last week I called and a Tech fixed it for me. Three days later it did the same thing. This time I did an online chat and the lady gave me the instructions for resetting the network; so far so good. The phone is only 3 years old, although I did have to do another paring with my Escape but that was no big deal. Maybe some bench time later on.

Good morning. 58f degrees heading to 80???
Volleyball on the UW campus against Florida was exciting, sloppy VB but exciting. 17-25, 25-20, 25-22, 36-34 with the UW women winning. They didn't announce the attendance but it looked like around 14,000 which is the money grab they were looking for. You know the term, grow the sport! Normally in the UW Fieldhouse it is a sold out impossible ticket for 8000 fans for about the last 12 seasons. The Badgers as they start the conference schedule Friday are a good young team. Not the normal top 5 ranked team in the NCAA but a good team. I'm thinking 3 or 4 in the conference and maybe #8-10 overall. I think we will see loses in the Fieldhouse we have not seen in years.
Measured up levels for the layout. 43" and 58" felt good to my new height of 5'9". One of the guys is 6'2 and other was 6'0 and it was ok for them. I know one of the layouts we operate on has 46" and 60" levels and I like the layout. But when we set the shelves at those heights it didn't feel right. Now to ponder what I really want to do as I have an adversion to losing a train in a helix. I'd like a nolix but I'm not sure how to hide it. Stay tuned, this ain't over!
We did dinner yesterday out and it was good. One of the local "chains" before Covid had 6 locations. Last Spring they shut down the 16 year location in Wausau and November 8 they are shutting down the Hilldale location after 19 years. That is Terry's favorite location. We used Terry's birthday discount they send her every year for her September b-day. I asked the server and he said both shutdowns were because of lease disputes and the owners of the restaurant said enough is enough! I didn't ask about the 1 closed during Covid. They will still have 3 Madison area locations but a new 1 somewhere in Sendai, Japan opening in 2/2026. Our server was one of the 1st hires back in the early 90's at the still open original location.

Bright overcast after a whole lot of rain at times Sunday afternoon. Much needed.
I worked on trying to learn more info on the 3d printing. It's coming along slowly. Now that I have the enclosure and vent system working, I'm taking it easy as there are plenty of distractions this week, 'scope tomorrow morning after pre-prep and prep. IF that comes out ok, we're contemplating a trip North at the end of the week, eye Doc app't Thursday. A bit stressed for tomorrow, as the Doll had one not go well in May and ended up in surgery for a repair. Scared me, a lot more than she knows, she's finally feeling herself but not keen on me putting myself thru it. Should be the last I have as I am 'timing out' in my stay here, statistically ???

Jerry, I haven't done anything on the book in the past 8 months. Hernia surgery in Dec. '24 put me on the sideline and after recovery I went on the other projects. However, over the past few weeks, I've been reviewing what I have and pacing all my notes in a time line so I can refer to them as I continue the chapters.
Rick, very nice photo today. My "Rick's Travel Photo File" is getting very big.
Yesterday I finished my second video. Its 6:52 minutes long. I took some of the video clips I shot a George Sellios' F&SM layout, combined them, added music and a loco steam sound. I added the music as the talking in the background was very annoying while watching the video. The steam sound I substituted was from my own 0-8-0.
My next three videos will be The Structures on the A&S RR, Steam on the A&S RR and Diesels on the A&S RR.

Back in 2003, I bought the brand new Canon Digital Rebel. I had it with me on a business trip to Seattle in November, and got permission to leave work early Friday, because the weather for the weekend was supposed to be clear and cold. (VERY unusual for November in Seattle.) I drove to Rainier and stayed at the lodge at Paradise. There I took this photo, Mount Rainier in a full moon:

I was guessing at exposure times, with the camera held on the lodge railing. Temps were in the 30s and dropping, and I couldn't stay out too long. There's a lot of noise in the picture, and probably airline tracks (rather than star tracks).
Right now it's sunny, but there's a chance of rain starting this evening for the next couple of days. We really need the rain. Today's the one day this week where there's nothing on my agenda, so I'll try to get some good time in the train room.

Good morning, all. I've seen Mt. Rainier in the distance, and rode the old NP line over Stampede Pass back when the North Coast HIawatha used it. But I've only actually been out and about in the Cascades in Oregon and California,
To Dave's NH Seacoast weather I'll add that last night our Fire Chief told the Selectmen all of NH is at "Red Flag" status for outdoor burning. Concord being Concord, there's an exception for campgrounds, but our local campground isn't taking that risk.
I've got some firewood to bring in before it rains, likely modeling if the outdoors actually gets wet. The 2nd Place certificate for my PRR flat car arrived in yesterday's mail.
Rick, I found the relatively easy trail I did one day outside of the park. BUT everything is closed due to fires.

Tom, the volleyball on Sunday with the Gators was sloppy for both teams. I watched the Gators beat Marquette a few nights earlier and if the Gators had served against the Badgers like they did against Marquette the outcome would have been different. This will be season 11 Terry told me of having season tickets for Badger volleyball where we have seen only 1 NCAA championship season. Lots of Final 4 appearances though

Good Morning All,

Started out with a walk at 73F but very humid from the heavy rain last night. Yesterday I spent a couple of hours on the kit and of course that included a trip to ACE for 3 rattle cans of paint. I also had issues on one step figuring out what piece to spray. In reality all I did was spray different items differently colors. Definitely not worth an update.
Today I'm driving Dad to the VA for a blood draw for his PCP appointment next week then he wants to go to Publix...Joy. After I get home I have floors to do. If I do them today I should have all day Thursday in the train room. That's the plan anyway.

Rick, the UW Badger Women hockey starts Friday way up in Bemidji, Minnesota and we will home watching it on TV. This is season #14 as season ticket holders. We have watched 6 of the 8 Badger NCAA Championship teams including last season. They are fun to watch and start season as a clear #1.
The grandson has been practicing with his age group and next older group with practices run by the "neutral" High School hockey team coaches. He is an 11 year old 2nd year PeeWee. The HS coaches start scouting at the PeeWee level around here. There is alway a High School representative scouting home games at the PeeWee and Bantam level. The PeeWee A and all Bantam teams are supposed to play the system the local High School system plays, so the HS coaches run the pre-season practices and are the final judges picking the Bantam A and PeeWee A teams here! 3 days a week for the last 3 weeks they have been running practices. Try outs start Tuesday next week behind closed doors.
His soccer team has 4 games left. Last week at soccer the hockey moms were discussing the hockey season. He has 5 teammates on the soccer team that play his hockey team age level 11-12. 2 were with him on his hockey team last year. The mom's are stressing already about try outs. The grandson told me, he's not worried he'll just play where they put him.
Some clean up in the weathering shop today! Then the grandson after school wants me to join him at the slot car track. He wants to add to the track and mom and dad are ok and mom will help. We are checking to see if it's feasible.

Overcast and low 60s this morning, with report of fog in the area. I think I've finally recovered from the scope visit. Rick, it was just a 'normal' outpatient surgery, but at the area hospital. Doc says I'm too old for a 'next' one...
We have a cat to take to the vet and I have a pair of Rx to pickup today.

Eye doc early tomorrow :o then we're Northbound with what looks like a decent weather forecast for a long weekend. :)

The best though are the ones that constantly work to improve their playing abilities, communication,leadership skills, takes nothing for granted and loves playing the game. Without the love of the game nothing else matters. I believe the grandson is improving in all those areas. He loves the game
Lunch is out today and then a stop at an artesian bread making bakery. We have a 2-1 coupon. We buy breads occasionally as I rarely bake nowadays. I have no problem buying a $6-7 loaf of great bread, but I will not pay $12 to 14 for one! So with a 2-1 coupon it fits what I feel is reasonable. They also have a mean cinnamon bun that I will get one of and have for breakfast tomorrow. Terry will also pick up some deep chocolate bark they make on her 2-1 coupon!

Good Morning All,
Today for breakfast is coffee, cereal, donuts, muffins, yogurt, english muffins, and soda.
Started out the day with a walk at 74F and moderate humidity. I worked on the wall project yesterday and that will continue today. I did manage to get to the workbench for about an hour. I grained 60 pieces of strip wood. and added knot holes. Today I hope to finish by adding cracks to the boards. After that they are ready for coloring.
That's all I got.

Good morning, Curt, Tom and those who haven't gotten up yet. I'll put a basket of Pawpaws on the counter; two days of rain made one of my seedling trees decide its fruit were ready.
Yesterday's boat hauling wasn't perfect: the fancy crawls down the ramp under the boat trailer came for Bill before slack water so we struggled to line the trawler up with short mooring lines. And just as we were ready, a pushy guy insisted on launching his own boat. But Bill's boat is ready to winterize and we took time to warm up and talk after.
Need to put together a presentation today, and clean some gutters, but there's time for more enjoyable things too.
I had to look up what a Pawpaw is. I honestly do not ever remember hearing about this fruit.🤔

Good morning from Wisconsin. 58f degrees now climbing surprisingly to 85+. Now the NWS says we will hit 80+ the next few days and stay dry.
Nothing planned till 7pm when we will be in our seats on campus as the Badger Volleyball Big Ten conference schedule begins and the intensity really picks up. The UW defending Women hockey team kicks off tonight in Bemidji, Minnesota. We are really looking forward to to hockey again this season. 20 of the 24 from last year are returning.
Terry and I are in disagreement about my layout. I am leaning toward taking it down. It's built in 6' sections so not that hard. But she doesn't believe that I will rebuild and she's probably correct in assuming that.

After three days in a row of hiking I'm taking it easy today.
Did a beautiful hike yesterday on the High Lakes Loop Trail in Rainier. (5.65 miles & 1,086' EG)
Only bad thing about yesterday's hike was when I got to the highest viewpoint that overlooks the lakes, I couldn't see a thing because I was in a cloud.
I'm currently parked just outside of Mount Saint Helens National Monument.
I'll drive into the park later and go to a trailhead that I want to hike tomorrow.

Bright clear skies in North Country this morning.
There is a town in SW Michigan called Paw Paw. When I was a kid 65 yrs ago the Detroit Tigers had an outfielder, Charlie "Paw Paw" Maxwell known for hitting home runs on Sundays. Never an All Star, I don't think but a local hero, for sure.
The Doll and her daughter and granddaughter just headed to town. I'm going shortly, trash to take, old stuff from the fridge, and get some gas. I bought some at home yesterday and we made it one one fill. $2.75 at home $3.15 here >:( .
My son has encountered that Tug/barge twice on Lake Michigan and did a little research. Once powered by Fairbanks-Morse power it now has ALCO power. A short video he has of it sounds like an FA/B set chugging along.
Looking forward to a chilled schedule for the weekend. ;) Colors are coming on nicely.

Curt, Larry, Rick and Karl: Pawpaws are the largest native North American fruit. Their range, 50 years ago, was from Southern Michigan to North Alabama, Western Pennsylvania to Eastern Missouri. You never see them in chain grocery stores because you can't pick the fruit before it's ripe. An unripe Pawpaw just sits there till it dries out and turns black.
My 2nd wife and I ordered and planted two bare-root trees about 25 years ago. New Hampshire is a long way from their native range but they've done well. They're in a somewhat sheltered location but my town hasn't had a -30F "test winter" in many years. I don't know how common they are in their range; I've driven back and forth between Lake Erie and the Mississippi a few times and never spotted their distinctive leaves, either wild by the roadside or in somebody's yard. Searching reveals 25 Pawpaw Festivals across the US this year, plus one in Farnham Quebec.

Another sunny and warmish day in SE NH, 64 heading to 75. Might hit 80 tomorrow.
Last night was another night of taking one of the dogs out every couple of hours. I sure hope she feels better today. We think a can of dog food went bad. Then the coffee machine malfunctioned this morning. I cleaned up the mess and the machine is drying out before I plug it back in again. So I'm under-caffinated.
I hope to finish the current batch of furniture for the machine shop today, and maybe start on one more batch. I'm setting the 2nd story up as a small supply warehouse/hardware store, along with the drafting area. A quick internet search produced few photos of warehouse interiors.

Volleyball on campus last night was fun. There just is a different feel when it's a conference game. The Badgers beat Rutgers in 3 sets. While I was there at the VB game but watching on my IPhone the defending NCAA champion Badger Women hockey team open their season in Bemidji, Minnesota 9-2. Seems I pissed off a lady sitting behind me because I was watching hockey at a VB match. I did tell her if she keeps hassling me I'd text security. Her hubby finally got her to realize I was serious. I didn't need her condescending remarks and came close...
Today Terry celebrates her birthday. She is 1 year and 2 days older than me. She's feeling good with her health turning back to the good side. She is starting to drop the weight she gained from all the medicines and steroids she was on. She's happy and so am I
Hockey on TV at 3pm and then we go see Portlandia (comedy) at the Overture Center tonight at 8. I wanted to see Taylor Tomlinson the comedian on 10/10 as they added a show for her. We dropped our theater subscription for this season and lessened the donation so we are no longer preferred subscribers. The seats were full, boo...

Gotta love bitchy women at events, TomO.(when they're not with you ;) ) I once had one behind me dump a whole cup of ice down the sleeve of my leather coat at a concert near Detroit when I shshhhed her and friend. Like it mattered, it was Barbra Streisand :P I wondered why she and seat mate left early. :P She would have been called KAREN in modern times. Sure was cold. Concert was terrible, sat so far from stage the "JumboTron" TV was about relative size of a smart phone.
Not really in a modeling mood. In the last 14 days I have lost 3 friends, three who I've known since childhood. One veteran to suicide (PTSD) and two to lung cancer.
I hope everyone is getting along well!

Good evening, all. Partly cloudy as twilight overtakes the NH seacoast. I spent the day helping Seashore's Yard Crew switch, with one good conversation with a visitor about the Flying Yankee. No actual derailments, but one old trolley had a stiff center bearing, 3.5" wide wheels and 1/2" flanges. It almost derailed 3 times, but we caught it each time. One place the gauge was out far enough I brought tools and installed a gauge rod.
Philip, my sympathies on the loss of your friends. A college roommate passed last month, maybe 5 weeks from diagnosis of soft tissue sarcoma to hospice, then gone. I will make the trip to Maryland for his memorial service.

It's a cloudy 58 with a high of 79 in New York. Mowed the lawn and mowed off the flower garden yesterday and noticed the grass hadn't grown much at all. Afterwards I put the plate over the discharge chute on the tractor and lowered the deck 1/2 inch so now it's onto grinding leaves until the white crap arrives. Hopefully some bench time this am then putting up some Fall decs inside.

Some low clouds burned off, warm, 67 heading to 81 and still a bit muggy in SE NH. My dog Livia continues to want to go out every 2 hours at night, so I'm tired. At least the coffee maker worked this morning.
I probably have 1 or 2 more days of furniture assembly, then I'll spraypaint everything to make them all look consistent. With luck, the interior should be done by the weekend, and I'll take this to the local meet for 'show and tell time'.

Well, yesterday was an adventure for sure. There were about 30 people in attendance at my cousin, Rusty's Service. Here is some back ground. Rusty attended Clemson, joined the FAA in Miami and retired after 20 years. He then joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary and got his Commercial Captain's License. He and friend then bought a fishing boat and took folks out in the Atlantic Ocean on charter fishing trips. Later they bought a second boat, Safari II.
I wasn't aware of the fact it would be a burial at sea with Rusty's ashes, per his wish. The charter boat, Safari 1, was docked at Pirate's Cove in Stuart, Fl. It took us 30 minutes to get to open ocean and then at the 4 mile mark we stopped and I gave my eulogy. We spread his ashes in the Atlantic and threw red and yellow long stem roses into the water with his ashes.
I'm very surprised I didn't get sea sick as we had 3-4 ft. waves due to the coming storm. A few did get sick. We got home about 8PM last night.
Time to edge and cut the grass prior to the rain.

I watched the Packers/Jerry Jones game last night. Extremely disappointing for GB fans. Poor time management skills by the now very experienced head coach. But they didn't lose. I will sign a petition to get rid of NBC's Chris Collingsworth. Unusual for me I also watched the Bear/Raider game.
Day #1 of year 73 for me and except for the weight the best health I have been in for awhile. I still have issues but I feel very good
I have made a decision about my layout. It's staying and I am not adding another deck. I made a list of things I need to do (2) by 10/15 and 5 things I want to do by Thanksgiving. The layout room and my 2 workbenches are very clean and ready to go. I would like to work about an hour a day but there will be no strict timetable

Tom, both Terry and I have DNR's and have informed the family so there are no surprises. The paperwork is also handy for if the EMS crews are called. Lesson learned on that because my brother in law passed sitting on the couch. EMS came in and my sister couldn't find the DNR paperwork to show them. By law they had to try to revive him. That was a huge trauma for my sister

Bright sun, calm lake this morning. 67 headed to 70 something with clear skies. There was a little color in the skies last night. This is off to the NNE toward Manistique from the beach.

We enjoyed our boat ride yesterday. Phots, took 110, await a sit down with Photoshop Elements as I used the Nikon. G'daughters Android phone blew the roof off in photo quality.
The girls left 0500ish to head home. The daughter had an 11am online meeting. She's changing jobs at the end of the week, but has a feeling of obligation to complete some projects for customers even if her bosses are tyrants. She is in online marketing for several large lottery operations in the US and abroad. Some of the features they are able to use to snoop on people are scary. Smartphones are surely NOT for your benefit. She is going into online marketing for a large commercial builder in W Michigan. She had several years experience with contractors sales while working at Menards while getting her degree from Michigan State University. She drives to excel in all she does.

Good Morning All,
Today for breakfast is coffee, cereal, cake donuts, bagels, yogurt, OJ, and soda.
Started out the day with a walk at 74F with high humidity but there was a nice breeze. Yesterday I finished the 1:1 wall project ;D and finished the 3rd wall in the kit. Today after chores I'll finish the fourth wall. It only takes about 2 hours but by the end my neck and upper back are aching. After that I'll probably read ahead in the directions.

Good morning from my part of Wisconsin. Still very unseasonable temperatures that should reach 85+ today. I will take it.
A couple things today. Back in February I was upgrading 4' of track and that cut off one of my staging yards. Today I will finish it, I promise! Then clean the mainline and that should take an hour. I use Isopropyl Alcohol on a fiber cloth and come back to add a smidge of graphite about every 12' or so. Not the cleaning method Joe Fugate recommends in the MRH Forums but it has worked for me the last 10 years. I won't have to clean track now for 6 months to a year depending how much I run trains.

Well is currently 16c (61f) and clear skies. It's supposed to be nice all week with no rain in the forecast. No modeling per say yesterday as I work on some prototypes for joiner tracks for our module set-ups. THey are of a split-rail design so that they are adjustable. We shall see what tonight brings.

Poor sleep last night. :-\ Had some very strange dreams. Yesterday I finished the pattern house fourth wall. Today I plan on cutting the walls off the chip board carrier and trim excess wood strips. First though I have floors to do. After that if I have any energy I'll head to the train room.
I was thinking Yesterday that I've been lucky finding this site and previously RR-line, with making new friends in real life and online along with the absolute top-notch modeling and willingness to share techniques with civility. It really does mean a lot to me. Just my thoughts for the day.

It's a very clear and crisp 39 with a high of 67 expected in New York. Managed to grind up some leaves yesterday afternoon which will continue until either the white crap falls or I get sick of it. Had a good day at the bench yesterday and maybe some more time today. I ordered 4 detail items Saturday from Brett and they shipped yesterday which was a complete surprise; these will help finish off my current build.

Ended up being a beautiful morning yesterday.
Star and I were able to do our hike and did 7.41 miles and 1,407 of EG on the Cape Horn Loop Trail.
Today the plan is to cross the Bridge of the Gods into Oregon.
The town on the other side of the bridge is Cascade Locks.
I went there earlier this year with some friends and had a delicious burger and shake there.
I'll go back there and get another burger and shake.

More seasonal temps in SE NH, but still sunny and dry. My dogs are doing better, 2 nights without midnight walkies. A neighbor said her dog got a bug last week, too, so there's definitely something going around. Another PT session this morning, then down to the train room to wrap up the storeroom shelving. Then I need to find my big box of boxes and work out what to put on the shelves.

Morning all!
I actually started something I found at a train sale a couple years ago. One of those old abandoned box cars, part of a hobo scene from Plasticville. Two of them for 5 bucks. So last night I took one of the cars apart and narrowed it to On30. It's looking good. No photos yet.
I also found some fern at Hobby Lobby perfect for trees. So far so good. The package is 10 bucks and looks like it will make 3 or 4 trees.
Also sculpting Abraham Lincoln through the last few weeks/month time permitting. Refine refine refine.

It's currently 11c (52f) and sunny, another great day. No modeling last night Is I decided to upgrade my skills in C++ as I plan to build some complex code to program a turntable using an Arduino and a stepper motor. That should be an interesting project.

We went to the Crisp Point lighthouse yesterday. That was after distributing the remainder of my Mother's ashes at Perch Lake N of Newberry

She and I had a lifelong contentious relationship and for some reason a talk I heard from that young man recently taken too early about parents. It kicked my heart to find a way to do so.
We're within 30 minutes of home. Anther nice day with decent traffic. We had a good week colors were behind expectations. Better in the upper mid state area today.
Grass to mow awaits I'm sure.
My Arduino project last year reminded me just how much I hate C based syntax, and the culture it engenders ('cleverness over comprehension.')

Good Morning All,
Breakfast today is coffee, cereal, bagels, yogurt, pastry, english muffins, bacon, OJ, and soda.
Well I got up at 5 am to go walking this morning but it was raining. My weather app says it's will until 7 am and then thunderstorms later when it heats up. I'll try again tomorrow. Yesterday I cut the 4 walls off of the carrier sheet and stenciled one wall.
Today after animal chores and washing towels I'll head upstairs to the train room. Not much else planned for the day.
I forgot to mention a couple of days ago that Mia, one of the rescues was taken to her forever home and she immediately snuggled with her new owner. ;D

Good morning. My section of Wisconsin continues its excellent run of wonderful weather. Back to the 80's today after being mid-70's yesterday.
Groceries this morning, track work before and after a 1pm lunch. Possible but unlikely grass cutting and then Volleyball on Campus at 7pm tonight
Mom and I were very close. Dad and I were not close but it was never contentious just a quiet relationship. The daughter has always, even today had a chip on her shoulder when it comes to Terry or me but we are much closer now. The son and I were I thought close. But he went off to school where he had his rebellion period for maybe 8 years before we started even communicating again even though he has always been close to Terry. The last 10 years though has turned around where we communicate constantly.

It's a bright day with 79°F forecast this afternoon. Last night we enjoyed our annual Oktoberfest at a local restaurant with our daughter and SIL. I had my usual, Zigeuner schnitzel. That was the first meal I had when assigned in Germany in 1971, and I still love it.
This morning I finished the Masonic Lodge. I installed the windows and attached the structure to the base. I am leaving the bottom floor unfurnished for now. I'll take photos after lunch and try to get one with the lights on tonight after dark.
I hope to begin work on the speeder to complete the maintenance shed scene and begin work on the gondola. Wiring still awaits under the layout, ugh!.

Good afternoon. My part of Wisconsin is heading to 88f degrees this afternoon.
I have spent almost 4 hours in the train room the last 3 days. Slow progress back but I'm getting there. Tie strips laid to replace what I took up in February. 3 Blue Point switch machines were added, then I laid the ties for all 3 switches that the Blue Points will control. The plan is let the switch ties dry till Sunday, set the frogs in the morning, go to Volleyball on campus and then lay the rails for the entire section inthe evening
Started the fade process for one of my own diesels
Currently on a lunch break and will spend more time on the diesel in about 45 minutes
Hockey returns as the ladies will raise the NCAA championship banner for 2025

In the early 2000s, I'd check the webcam each morning to watch the growth of the small lava domes inside the blow-out crater. And at night I'd look for lava glow. (Mountain is in clouds today...)

Got up a little early to help MOH pack up the van for a skunk event to the west of us. She has daughter with her today so I'm free for the SBG meeting at Tom's today. ;D
Yesterday I continued on windows and doors and that will continue on Sunday, and this is just the first of the buildings. The windows are very, very fragile before assembly.

It's a clear and sunny 44 this am with a high of 79 in New York supposedly. Ground up leaves again yesterday afternoon so that should be set for a few days. Have a small 1:1 project outside this afternoon. After almost 9 months the family across the street are finally moving into their new home; that's a long time for a manufactured house. Maybe some more bench time this morning to finish up my diorama; well almost.

How is the rest of the crew?
It's overcast, but it will clear when the sun comes up. A high of 80°F is in the forecast. Yesterday, I finished the lodge structure and found a spot on the layout for it. My next project on the bench is a gondola on a flatcar. My next decision will be what structures for the layout are needed to complete Phase I. I plan to scratch-build them using the laser and 3D printer. One is the sheriff's office, and others (still in my head) are a hotel, a store of some kind, an assayer's office...
Today, my SIL is coming over for lunch. I put ribs on the smoker earlier this morning, and the 3.2.1 method should have them ready by one. I'll make coleslaw, baked beans, and bake sweet potatoes to complete the meal. Oklahoma plays at 4:00 PM, so not much train work today.

Good morning from Wisconsin. 63f degrees now 88 later, love it!
Hockey last night on campus as the Women opened the home portion of the season and raised the 2025 NCAA Championship banner. I thought the Maine Bears were a class act. They came out and stood at their bench during the ceremony and even tapped their sticks on the ice. That is a show of respect in hockey. The past 2 banners raising ceremonies the other team stayed in the locker room. Badgers won 5-0 that easily could have been double digits. The Maine goalie did every thing but stand on her head in a 1st period shut out and played great the rest of the game. The Badgers just wore the Bears out with their relentless speed, talent and constant pressure.
I did start the weathering process with a fade on my Wisconsin Interstate 4022.
More hockey on Campus at 1pm this afternoon.
Some work this morning on the layout is forecasted. As I wrote yesterday I added the Blue Point switch machines now I will build the 3 switches around them. I also might work on some weathering to a yellow TBOX 60' high cube I started the other day. The roof, trucks, wheels and couplers are done minus touch ups. The body is faded and the graffiti decals are picked out, maybe this morning. If I do the graffiti this morning I probably can finish the weathering Sunday. It's one of mine...

Started out the day with a walk at 73F and high humidity from the previous evening rain. I had a good time at Tom's yesterday. Including Bill it was only the three of us. No modeling yesterday.
Today after chores I'll head to the train room. Hopefully today I can finish the sliding freight doors on the pattern shop. If so I'll post an update.

Good morning Crew. 61f degrees now and maybe 84 later. I'm still enjoying it as it's dry and low humidity. Sometimes Wisconsin weather can be awesome. The high on Monday is predicted in the low seasonable 60's.
Volleyball on Campus at 1pm. The Women won the hockey game yesterday. The 3rd game in a row the score was 5-0. They look pretty good as expected. In 4 games they have score 24 and given up 2. The speed the team plays at is relentless
We had an ICE raid in the neighborhood Saturday morning at 3am. The deported person from June who was flown out of the country in July was arrested again along with the people who are living in the adjoining houses. I knew nothing about it until last night sitting on the front porch when one of the walking neighbors mentioned it. The neighborhood watch page on FB mentioned it this morning. There was still yellow police action tape around 2 houses this morning as I went outside this morning for my walk.
The granddaughter went to the Homecoming football game Friday night. The son in law said as they walked onto the grandstand she was greeted like an arriving queen by one of the sections. Harper may have Down Syndrome but she is very social and usually gets along with everyone. We were at their house for pictures last night as she and a bunch of other "special needs" kids attended the dance as a group. Her mom texted the family group after the dance that "she had a good time". That's all you can ask for
I'm staying out of the train room today but may go in after dinner. I was invited to go to Hiawatha Hobbies with the grandson and 2 of his friends along with the SIL who would drive. But I'm going to the VB game. The boys are buying some slot cars and the SIL will pick up an 0 scale diesel for a weathering commission for me to weather. You guys think HO or N are expensive, $600 for a Sd70ace in Atlas O!

Well another gorgeous sunny day with the temperature currently 20c (68f). Spent yesterday finishing the shelves in the shed, today's plan is to populate them. I did make it to the bench yesterday but no modeling got done but the bench is nice and clean now. ;D Today after the shed shelf population plan I'll watch the F1 race and then maybe make it to the bench.

Mini heat wave in SE NH, up to 81 today, that's 18 degrees above average. Weather should break on Wednesday, hopefully with much-needed rain.
Yesterday I took the machine shop parts to the local NMRA meet for 'show and tell'. But I stopped short on the trip so I have to repair some damage to the frame, which is very fragile. Fortunately, that won't show, even if I have to splint the parts.

I made a little progress upstairs on the gondola and layout. I rearranged structures and developed the parameters for the remaining buildings in Phase I. I'll post some pictures later. Watching the boys play the Jets.

A pleasant sunny day in Michigan, the last for a few. Heat and sun leaving overnight, up to an inch of rain is possible in the area and cooler, seasonable, weather. No where near "enough" rain, but I'm not griping.
Lions Won in Cincy, started tiring and thinning out their roster with injuries, that made it a bit easier for the home crowd as they saw some life out of their team that was 'flat' to be nice, early in the game.
Semi-annual HVAC check is due today, need to shovel a path to it in the basement.
I am contemplating a test print with the 3d setup today. :-\

Currently 16c and sunny here in Southeastern Ontario. After building shelves on Saturday and hauling boxed yesterday I was to sore to really do anything so I watched the F1 race and some football. I did manage to install a frog juicer and wire it up to the frogs yesterday.

Good morning from my part of So. Central Wisconsin. Somewhere between me and the Illinois border (65 miles) is the dividing line of a beautiful high of 85 and my ok seasonal high of 64. It's 62f degrees now. We will stay in the 60's for the daily high until Friday when the WeatherChannel's guess is mid 70's. The rains are coming today with a 50/50 chance today lasting into this evening.
The SIL did not bring my Atlas O scale Sd70Ace back from his trip to the hobby shop. It wasn't the one I had put on hold for pickup and because we were at Volleyball he couldn't get ahold of me. He took the grandson and 3 friends to buy slot cars and the 3 boys and 1 girl got a heck of a deal and another sponsor for the series of slot cars racing they are trying to hold monthly. The 16th and 17th are the next races because those 2 dates are teacher service days and no school. Last night at 6pm all 4 plus the SIL were at the bench at the grandson's house. I gifted all 5 (yep SIL also) a tool kit and lube for the cars. I then showed them how to disassemble their new slot cars. Clean the gears, check the balance of tires and lightly oil the spots the instruction sheet that comes with slot cars says to oil. It's like disassembling a new locomotive and cleaning the gear box's. It should be done but not everyone does it. Later on we tested the cars. We run the races normally at 10volts to slow the cars unrealistic top speeds. But last night we put the normal 14 volts into the system. All 4 agreed the cars were too fast and I put it back to 10 volts. The cars are then not a blur at the top speeds.
The Badger Volleyball team played Michigan and early in the 1st set lost their sophomore All American setter to a shoulder injury. You could hear her scream when it occurred and the UW Fieldhouse which is a crazy loud gym went immediately deadly silent. 7000+ people and you could hear the pin drop! I immediately thought dislocation but could not see anything strange, then I thought pulled muscle. She came back out about 15 minutes later in a sling and ice pack on her shoulder to stand with her team, but I think she'll be gone awhile. The son has had 2 separated shoulders and based on the way the sling was set it could be that. The University will just announce it as an upper body injury while everyone else just guesses like I just did. While not a pretty match the freshman setter that replaced her stepped up and did a very good job. The Badgers did pull out the 1st set after being down 11-15 and won 25-22. They did win all 3 sets but with close scores.
Today's plan is to head to the grocery store for the buy 2 16.9 ounce 6 packs of Dr Pepper products at $5.00 each or $10 total and get 3 packs free. To keep tradition when going to this particular grocery store a walk into the freshly made bakery department is a must. A chocolate eau Clair filled with custard is a must buy for me. Terry will get a plate sized apple or blueberry fritter.
Train plans for the week are minimal. I cancelled out a couple weeks ago of all OPS sessions for October I had signed for.
Layout work sessions that had been normally on Thursdays in 2024 and 2025 became Wednesday's in July then August. It now looks like the 2 layout owners want to keep the Wednesday's. So a session this week for sure. They alternate sessions but the one this Wednesday has a layout tour this month and he'd like to have most of the facade mock ups for his paper mill buildings installed. So I'll be over there a few times this month skipping the other layout. I've got a space 2' wide x 32' long and 22" high to the next level to work with. I have the Digestor and support building framework done. The brick work and metal siding will be installed after the fitting, trimming and owner approval happens. The machine building (where the paper is made) is 8' (real length) long and 4 stories or 60' high (HO Scale). Originally it was to be 2 4' sections of styrene cladded to 1/2" plywood and window openings cut out. Now it's 18" long sections with window sections laser cut. The supporting frame work will be 1/2 x 1/2" birch plywood. I'll do pictures when I add the buildings to the layout. This is by far the biggest paper mill complex I have designed and built. It's abut 7' longer than my own and almost 20' longer then what I normally have designed. The finish details (when $$$ permit) on this complex when completed over the next couple years should be outstanding

Today after chores I'm probably heading to the LHS to get "U" channel (think I beam) styrene. Hopefully they will have it. Fingers crossed.

Star and I hiked to the top of ZigZag Mountain.
10.3 miles and 2,267' of EG.
Started the hike before sunrise and the first three miles were done in total darkness.
Yes, I do have a headlamp.
Got to the top just after sunrise.
No clouds and had a nice view of Hood Mountain.
Driving to Redmond in a bit to hit the gym there.
Taking it easy the rest of the day.

Good morning from damp, chilly and dreary looking So. Central Wisconsin. Definitely more seasonable today. 51f degrees now heading to 63. Almost 1/4" of water in the rain gauge from overnight. That's it for the next 5 days. I believe today will be long jeans instead of shorts as Mother Nature has finally decided it's Autumn in Wisconsin. Frost warnings for Wednesday morning
The friend's layout work session for me on Wednesday has changed to 2pm this afternoon. Terry's best friend and maid of honor has tickets to the Cubs/Brewer game at Wrigley and needs a ride! The SIL's best friend and best man at the wedding lives 2 blocks from Wrigley Field and has an underground parking spot we can use. We will then walk the 2 blocks to the ball park!
The NHL season starts this afternoon in Florida with the Chicago BlackHawks and the Florida Panthers! AT 4pm Central time! It's on ESPN. Looks like I'll be at the work session...

Today might be the last day of summer ;D High of 81 (still 19 degrees above average), but a cold front coming through will get us to seasonal temps (and hopefully rain!) tomorrow.
Yesterday I fought computers a bit, trying to draw some stuff to put on the shelves for the machine shop. I might just give up, or just put misc junk there.

Wally World has delivered groceries already this morning. We pay extra of course, but I haven't been in a WM store in more than 6 months...priceless. ;D Grandson was at the house yesterday complaining about how busy it was at work (Target). I told him Hallothankmas was upon us and it would just get worse.
The LHS was a success, of course MOH came along which added 3 more stops ::) No train room time, but success. ;) Still nothing from Brett.
Today I'm starting off with floors then I'll head to the train room. Today will be spent cutting and gluing with AC.

Karl, 3D printing is like many other things. You have to relearn how to use the software and machines every time you work on something new. It takes a bit to work out your process and workflow, but when you do, write it down, lol.

It's an overcast morning with rain coming later. The high is forecast for 84°F. Yesterday, I made it upstairs and worked on designing the post office and adding truss rods and sides to the gondola. I'll take photos later.

Thanks for breakfast Larry. Waffles with Maple Syrup is perfect.
I chipped a front tooth yesterday and have no way of knowing how. I think my enamel is old and brittle. Dentist at 9:30 this morning, says, no problem, it can be fixed.
We bowled well yesterday and took 6 out of 8 points. I averaged 199 yesterday which is much better than my 161 the first five weeks.
Rick, sounds like you and Star and hiking all over the Northwest, enjoy it all.

Bright sun and clear skies, yet again, after the day of rain. BUT...the CHILL is on with coldest morning since May. 40s going to fight to 600 today and most of the week.
Home generator was several thousand dollars more than I expected nor can afford. The salesman DID like seeing my layout project.
3d continues to frustrate. Mike, added a magnet plate to the build plate, redid my "0" but would not work right. Going backwards in the whole thing. I am better at cleaning up and not spilling so badly. My air removal system in my build station is functioning well.
Plenty to do today, the Doll got a new rug cleaner and I have to assemble it. :o
Time to hit "REFRESH" and see what today brings.

Good morning from Wisconsin. The overnight low hit 41 and many of the plants on my walk this morning were covered as frost was predicted! High lat should be 63. Game time at Wrigley Field for the Brewer/Cub playoff game at 4:08pm CST should be 62. I guess we will be in layers
The layout work session for the paper mill went very well. It was decided 32' of facade structures and out buildings was too much. We condensed the 2 sample 18" laser cut segments, the foam core and poster board mock ups to about a 20 to 24' space. Cutting out 8' of structures allows for a larger log pond, river scene, pulp, wood chips and coal piles without stuffing things in. Today his track crew will work the "final" mill track work foot print. Another decision made was the log pond/river was being crossed by open deck girder brides. Now it will be a couple lead in girder bridges to a double track swing bridge. I came home with the double track bridge from Walthers to build! Was not expecting that. The owner was shocked at the mockups and the space they filled (32'). I tried explaining the last couple months but until the mockups ups were in I guess he couldn't comprehend it. His partner thought it was great (it was) and she wanted it left as originally designed and mocked up. He sighted a lot of good reasons but when he mentioned price his partner jumped all over him. She said you have 100+ locomotives and how many hundreds of cars, let alone track so don't go cheap on buildings. I chuckled
This will be our 1st baseball playoff trip to Wrigley Field. Been to Brewer playoff games in Milwaukee and a White Sox World Series game in 2005 but never have been able to get Cub playoff tickets. It should be a good time. While I'm torn as a kid who grew up in Chicago, I am going Brewers.

Less than 1/4" by my gauge; the grass will like it but it didn't do much for stream flow, people's wells or our recent statewide Red Flag warning. I'm checking the Forum, then I have some on-line work, then see if the autobody place is done patching up the kid's accident damage.

Started out with a walk at 74F and moderate humidity. Yesterday was a bit of disaster. I made the entire set-up including bracing of the roller track for the main freight doors. Long story short is that I ended up trashing the assembly and today I will redo it. I think part of the issue was the glue, so first thing is a run to ACE.
Not much else happening this way. Saturday I may be helping MOH at a rescue event.
Tom I once broke a molar eating a piece of white bread! Good luck with your tooth.

My tooth was fixed. It was only a small chip but felt like the Grand Canyon. Dentist put a damn around the tooth, mixed up some stuff, filled in the chipped area, let it sit for 5 minutes and then blasted it with some purple light. Bang, good as new and can't even tell by looking it was ever chipped. Dental advancement is way ahead of me. I was in and out in 40 minutes.
Anyway, thanks for all the well wishes on the tooth. I'm back in business with no eating restrictions. Amazing.
Time to edge and cut the grass.

Looked like sun was starting just before down,...FROSTY look to the grass in the open area outside my window. It says 350 on my watch, 330 on the monitor screen. It does look like sunlight in the tree tops in the woods behind.
PT at 11:30 is my obligation for today.
The rug machine worked out fine, the Doll got right at it and what she did looks nice. WE had a power outage for several hours Tuesday night...within one minute of walking in the house. "Power" provider does text updates, when the juice came back on the said it was due to TREES. Our single line branch has not had a good tree trimming in years if ever. 5-6 times a year they boot us off and most times list TREES as causation. Area supervision must like the OT pay more than having trees trimmed. Just had a rate increase approved, just fine. We do have another guy coming to give us an estimate for the generator.
I messed around on the layout a bit in the evening. I had to cut 2" off of the back of a prebuilt Walther's freight station to fit a narrow area I am working on. Painted it to kill off the plastic sheen out of the box.
Interesting about the tooth repair, Tom, I have some adhesive I bought off Amazon that is UV activated and have used it a few times. I like it.

Good morning from the western shores of Lake Michigan in Southeastern Wisconsin. It's 47f degrees here but only 34 at home about 100 miles west and inland.
The ball game was fun and cold after the sun went down. We had layers but gloves would have been nice. The Cubs did win to extend the playoffs. The 1st 5 miles leaving the ballpark was tough taking about an hour. The drive normally would be roughly 1.5 hours to Racine, Wi. and last night was 2 hours and 20 minutes. Really not bad and since I wasn't the night driver I was relaxed.
Leaving here in about 45 minutes as someone (not me) forgot a dental cleaning at 11:30am today. We'll be home in plenty of time.

Karl generators aren't cheap!! I looked into a whole house unit and almost fell off my chair when I heard the price. My response "You're insane charging that kind of money"; of course I don't think he appreciated my views on the matter. Nice you were able to "bash" the freight house to fit.

Karl. Living off grid except for natural gas was enlightening from basically 2018 to 2024 when we moved back here. We had the full house generator that put out 26kw. Put them in 3 houses during that time frame. Completely installed never cost more than $8500. When we moved back into here in spring 2024 I got the electrician out to check over everything for an install. He asked if I really wanted to spend the money. I almost fell over when he told me the price almost double of the last install. I can't image how much it would be now. GOOD LUCK, We now have a small emergency generator just for the heating or air conditioning and the refrigerator.

6.73 miles and 2,657' of EG.
Had to stop and catch my breath a few times because this hike was at a higher elevation than all the other hikes I've done lately.
It's a little over 9,000' at the top.
I'll have to do more high elevation hiking to get back in shape.
Today another hike is planned but this one is mostly flat and goes around a lake.

Good morning, all. The NH seacoast is about 45F and sunny, headed to the 50s before a likely first frost tonight. If the car is fixed in time I'll go to Seashore, otherwise plenty to do here. Maybe even some modeling.
Karl, our power company also acted like PGE for quite a few years: big stock buybacks, big C-suite pay, no tree-trimming. It didn't matter much to me personally, as my PV/battery/inverter system went on-line in 1994 and paid for itself that June (power outage wasn't even noticed during my daughter's birth at home). After PGE was found guilty of causing at least one big California wildfire through neglect, ours straightened out its act. Maybe a letter to yours, Cc'ed to the Public Utility Commission, would shift their thinking.

The door assembly went like it should have the first time around! Now it's on to some wall white metal castings and 3D printed details.

PT was a bit strenuous yesterday, but I survived.
I went out for a new drive belt for the mower deck, $120 and then a breaker bar to manipulate the spring loaded idler pulley. I'll give the job a shot the next day or so. No mowing planned with rain today. Might the layout or workbench get a visit? I haven't been informed yet. ;)

Going to work on the honey-do list today and check off a couple of items and then I have some clean-up to do. I also plan to make it to the bench today.

Weather dipped into low 40's overnight.
Yesterday I was cleaning the basement shop and throwing/donating 36 years of accumulated junk that I'll never use. Loading a donation to the local mission. Still scrapped for room.
Today I'm installing a 50ft LAN cable in the basement. Should be a challenge slithering on my belly in the crawl space part. The wireless just isn't reliable in the shop, so hardwiring.
Ordered RTV and resin Monday for the part-time model business. I'm fixing to get hot and resurrect some patterns and molds. Haven't casted anything in almost 3 years.

Yesterday I was cleaning the basement shop and throwing/donating 36 years of accumulated junk that I'll never use. Loading a donation to the local mission. Still scrapped for room.
Today I'm installing a 50ft LAN cable in the basement. Should be a challenge slithering on my belly in the crawl space part. The wireless just isn't reliable in the shop, so hardwiring.
Ordered RTV and resin Monday for the part-time model business. I'm fixing to get hot and resurrect some patterns and molds. Haven't casted anything in almost 3 years.

The coax line I had from the internet entry point in the basement to the home office where the rest of the networking gear sits failed. I ended up running an ethernet cable outside the house, pulling off the vinyl siding to slip the cable underneath. So far, so good...
I've been thinking about a casting project, one thing that popped up was this stuff to spray into the bottles for both mold and resin to increase shelf life: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PN45KW2 It puts a layer of argon gas over top of the resin, blocking the air. Anyone have any experience with stuff like this?
Seasonal temperatures in SE NH, which feels chilly after the summer temps we had earlier this week. We are likely to get a lot of rain Sunday into next week, which would be A Very Good Thing. But I feel sorry for those who had plans for the long weekend. I got some time in the Train Room after the exercise machine, gluing up some framing on the 2nd story of the machine shop that broke loose. I don't have a lightweight bar clamp long enough for the long length, so I tipped it on its end and put some weight on the other end to hold the joint while the glue cures. Fingers crossed this makes a good joint, I'll have to do a bit of sanding eventually to get the walls to fit tightly.

It's a bright day forecast for 73°F. I'm working upstairs, cleaning the workbench in preparation for the next kits. I have been distracted from designing a building and the livestock car by the arrival of the oil well. Now I know why I didn't scratch build one. My wife just arrived from a Costco visit, so I need to unload the car.

Good afternoon, all. Rick, yesterday I wasn't any closer to the sea than I normally am, though I crossed bridges over salt water 8 times going to and from Seashore Trolley Museum. Though Seashore mentions it, the Shore Line Trolley Museum in Branford, CT is the one that actually crosses marsh creeks.
The lower Merrimack valley is long-sleeve weather but I had a number of windows open earlier just the same. No modeling likely today, as I've been working on bills and getting my heat fixed. Hopefully the latter comes true Monday; I have adequate firewood on hand but the teenager hasn't the time away from school to manage heating our house with wood.

A quick update. We're closing Northern Command (aka summer camp) this weekend. I'll be able to get back to modeling and some 1:1 projects at Central Command (aka homebase).
Looking at building a dust collector to keep the dust under control from the woodshop. I'm also looking at installing an inline duct fan to get a negative pressure in the basement to keep the volatile odors down when working with polyurethanes. I'll be getting back at working on the HOn30 quarry line and its associated projects.

Good Morning All,
Breakfast today is coffee, cereal, bagels, english muffins, yogurt, OJ, and soda.
Got up this morning to help MOH finish packing up the van before she takes off for the skunk event. At least it's indoors today. Yesterday I spent a couple of hours painting details and that will continue today and these are just the ones for the pattern shop.
Nothing else is planned today except the normal daily chores. I think the next SBG is the first Saturday in November.

Looking out I think we got frost, noticed yesterday all the flowers are wilting from the coldness.
The cable drag yesterday was a PIA. Done but sore all over. Jerry hit the nail on the head!
RTV and resin were delivered yesterday.
Dave, I have used countless amounts of resin but never tried the items your speaking of. I have heard it does work but never tried. I usual cast in the fall, into winter and avoid humidity. Shelf life has a lot to do with process and amounts exposed to the elements. I normally use beakers or measuring cups and try to keep the main container sealed. If it's humid I have had resin ruin in several hours. My old resin casting company "Vagabond" had a shelf life of one year, but some lots remained useful for 3 years. Glenmarc bought them out and as of 2025 production has stopped.
Well I'm off to the basement. Organization continues and downsizing this collection of niche junk continues.

Also went to Best Buy and bought a MacBook Air.
It takes up a lot less space on my already small countertop and uses less power.
It's also easier to get set up and take down than my Studio and monitor.

Currently 8c (46f) and the sun is out. Made it to the bench yesterday and got the supports for the backdrop installed as well as installing the second frog juicer. Today's plan is installing the backdrop after walking Gracie and making a run to home depot to get some sky blue paint and paining supplies.

I got a MB Air as a 2nd laptop a couple months ago. It's a very nice machine. I did buy a USB-C to HDMI adapter, so i could use it to give my clinics at the NMRA NER convention.
Right now it's sunny and seasonally cool, 54 up from 35. Scotch Club is scheduled for late afternoon, before then I'll hit the exercise machine (ugh) and then 'populate' the remaining shelf units. I also need to build a lot more smaller crates, and look for other stuff (small kegs?) to fill out the storage room part of the machine shop. I also need to plan and execute the 2nd story lighting. When all that's done, it'll be back to the basic kit, assembling the walls.

I haven't watched any baseball in years, but last night the Doll came across the Detroit Tigers ALCS game, vs Seattle, after watching a movie. It was in 7th or 8th inning and tied. After doing my evening PT bs and not up to restarting anything else I plopped down on the couch, reclined a bit and settled in to watch Inning 9..10..11..12..13..14.15..until well after midnight, close to 0100hrs until suddenly, it's golf season for the multimillionaires and their gold chains and stuff... :-\ I remember why I don't watch it...losers, such a slow games, loud annoying noisemakers err..announcers, and blather almost as boring as golf...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSXMS8ABAAU (rated R) ;D
RE: $$$ belt for mower, not a fun expense but over my years, I've found out there just isn't an aftermarket belt that will last for me. Too much work to figure out how to replace the darn thing to jump into doing it earlier than at all needed. Struggling with mine in getting the routing and a spring loaded idler pulley to play well with others. ::) I may have brought some nefarious bs into my desk top, I was looking at IMAGES on search for routing belt and clicked to enlarge a photo and suddenly I had a 32" monitor screen full of....more beaver than the whole eastern UP :o :o :o even tho I exited that in less than 5 seconds...I have several Mozilla Firefox boxes off to the rh corner of the screen to renew Anti Virus that won't go away. ??? ??? need to get my Geek Squad over and look into it. RE-Start didn't help. Otherwise all is working OK, maybe Microsoft trying to coerce my change to W-11, but I hate having that in my history if anything...
Resin 3d might get another go today, learning curve is like missing a curve on one of those country roads in W. Virginny that John Denver(?) sang about....all seems well then, right off the edge, backwards.
The Doll is out to a hair repair shoppe' with her daughter. Sure hope she can find something that can help her answer the question with no right answer...."What do YOU think of my hair....?, I just can't....holds up a phone full of 40 somethings with stylize hair...what do you think of these..." Reading Bob and Greg both made surprise visits to the A&S RR yesterday. Bob brought down his FOS model of the Lava Gun Shop and it was better in the 1:1 world than the forum photos. High quality build.
Bill and I shot several videos and I'm in the process of putting them all together. I'll have the YouTube version out later this afternoon. The four of us BS'ed between takes.
We had lunch at our favorite watering hole, Del Dios, and certainly did our share of BSing. It was a fun day.
Pam and I have some errands to run today so the I'll finish it after 1PM this afternoon.

It's another bright morning, with temperatures rising from 52°F to 79°F this afternoon. Yesterday was a bad day on the gridiron. I did get the Post Office designed for the laser. I need to add tabs, slots, and roof panels, but otherwise, it's ready for the cutter. I ordered wood for the structure, which should arrive tomorrow.
The Boys play at 1 pm, so I probably won't make it upstairs.

How's everyone doing?
I did an amazing hike yesterday.
Star and I hiked up Hager Mountain. (7.66 miles and a bit over 1,900' of EG)
No s@#$ at the trailhead but by the time we got to the top there was about 3" of it.
It stuck well to the trees and looked beautiful.
Unfortunately when we got to the top we were in a cloud and there were no views.
Fortunately on the way down it cleared up and I got some good pics.
Nothing planned for today just driving a bit further south.

Good morning. 48f degrees heading to 70. The WeatherChannel app says it's clear and sunny. They need to step outside and check out the heavy cloud cover and lack of sunshine.
Hockey on campus yesterday went beyond thrilling. Exciting from puck drop to the final whistle. I wouldn't call it a miracle but the heart of the championship Badgers was on display yesterday. Tough game as they put 51 shots on either the #1 or 2 ranked goalie in the nation and only got 4 goals. The Badger goalie also ranked either 1 or 2 in the country faced 24 shots and gave up 3 and didn't look comfortable all game! The Badger ladies down 3-2 tied the game with 38 seconds left and then won it with 8 seconds left. The Badgers play Minnesota Duluth again today at 1.
The grandson 's soccer is playing in the championship tournament game at 9am. They won both games yesterday. They are a good team
I watched only the final 3 outs of the Brewer/Cub game.

Well it's currently 12c (54f) and sunny so it's another great day. Managed to install the first section of the backdrop yesterday. With the sharp curve at the corner, it required some bracing to hold everything in place till the glue set. If all goes well I'll get the rest of it installed today. But first I have some chores to do and a dog to walk.

Neighbor's daughter and son both still play hockey (they're in their late '20s/early '30s.) Daughter in particular played for NCAA champ team, and is known for her ability to score on anyone... Daughter and father are supposed to run in a marathon at the end of the month (if he's feeling OK, he has a sprain he's nursing.) The things you learn about your neighbors at Scotch Club...
I'm trying to find the Grandt Line barrels I know I have -somewhere-. So far no luck, but I found some other stuff I didn't know I had. Yesterday I prepped some Fine Scale models half-barrels. I'm still looking for the 'box of boxes' I have somewhere from a Downtown Deco order. I'm surprised in general that there aren't more 'pieces of freight' castings (plaster, styrene, resin, etc) available. All this to populate the storage room in the machine shop. But I'll take a break from searching and start work on the 2nd story lighting. That should be easier than the machine shop first floor lighting.

Good Afternoon Folks;
Finally have a chance to check in and begin to catch up. I have been finishing up detailing a couple )of structures for NMRA evaluation. I went to the Sunshine Region NMRA convention this year, first time I have been to a regional since the first one I ever went to in 2018. I commuted since it was just up the road in Ocala but if I ever do it again I will stay overnight. By end of each day I was tired. I entered the structures for evaluation as I am working to get my AP- Structures (merit badge?). They both passed and won awards which really surprised me but also made me feel good knowing the program is doing what it is supposed to do, help me become better at modeling.
Today was a recovering day and hope to watch the Bucs football game shortly. This week I hope to get serious working on the layout. Time to get some trains moving around the room. I need to have two more structures evaluated to meet the AP Structure requirement so I will be thinking on what next for that as well. Perhaps a rolling bridge to cross the canal scene. Well have a great day. Here are photos of the two structures. The Flour Mill won overall as well as the President's award which was way cool.

Yeah, when I finally found my box of boxes, some of the Sierra West pieces were in there. They're older resin castings, rather than the current 3D printed stuff. I've primed a bunch of barrels, boxes, etc, and started playing with the layout. I probably need more clutter :-)
Another thing I dug out was a Mine Mount pipe/lumber rack kit. I cut it so it's flat in the back, and I'll put that against one set of windows with a bunch of small rods, etc, painted black. I'll also do a "pipe barrel" with pieces of rod & pipe sticking out of the barrel, and put that on the machine shop floor.

Slept poorly last night and have no appetite this morning, so coffee it is. The problem was I took a nap yesterday because I couldn't keep my eyes open, and that normally means a poor night time sleep.
Yesterday, I got the 4 pattern shop walls together, glued in the braces and view block. After that I started on the roof. For some reason I could not understand what the instructions said to do. I must of read them a dozen times >:(. But then the lightbulb finally went off and I understood. ???
Today I have laundry and several chores, so I may not make it to the workbench. :(

Yesterday I finished distressing and staining the wood for the oil derrick. While at it, I distressed the stock car deck boards. I don't have plans for the day, maybe a little of this and that. Laser wood arrived yesterday, so I may cut the Post Office.

Good morning. We are heading to a wet 70f degrees today. The rain will be sporadic but not heavy!
The grandson's team gave up 7 goals in the 2nd half yesterday to lose 0-7. The daughter said it was not pretty!
The Badger Women hockey team completely dominated yesterday's game against #4 Minnesota Duluth, 4-0. The Badgers had 57 shots on goal and Duluth only 17
I figure just a couple more hours and the Swing Bridge I am building for a friend will be done. I will start the weathering Tuesday

Headed about 70 miles south on 31 to my next campsite.
It's a very nice spot and there's also a trailhead here which was a nice surprise.

It's thanksgiving here today so HAPPY THANKSGIVING CANADA ! ! ! ! (I know we celebrate it early here).
Another sunny day with the current temperature at 10c (50f) with the sun shining brightly. Managed to install another section of the backdrop yesterday. The section needs to be held in place till the glue sets as the rounded corners add a lot of force to the flat sections. The plan today is to install the third and final section.
