Afternoon All,
I finally recieved this kit today. I placed everything on my extra table and glanced thru the 127 pg instruction manual. :o Tomorrow I'll get started on it.

Eric Québec
Nice. I'll be following your build with interest.
Jeff
Quite a step up from Keep It Rusty's Old Boiler House, this should be fun, thanks for posting your build. Mark
Curt,
I will be following along too.
Is this kit the HO or O scale version?
Rich
Curt, glad you got the kit.
Hope you have many happy hours building it.
I'll be watching.
Curt looks like this one will be worth the wait. I'm grabbing a seat to watch you have a ball building this.
Question: Is this just the foundry building or does it include the work room and office; just curious.
Looking forward to the build Curt.
Jerry
Great kit. I'll be watching on, Curt.
Cheers, Mark.
I will be following along,
Wow Curt, the kit is amazing. Congrats for finally receiving it. I can't wait for your build thread. Have fun, mike
Afternoon All,
Thank you for following along and your kind comments Greg, Eric, Jeff, Mark, Rich, Rick, Larry, Jerry, Mark D., John, and Mike.
Rich the kit is HO.
Larry it's the entire setup.
Since the initial post until today has been spent coloring the wood for the pattern shop. A very tedious endeavor.
Today I attached the individual boards to the first of the Pattern shop walls. Of course the openings still need trimmed.

Curt you're off to a great start and very nice coloring on the boards. Have fun.
Curt tha really looks great. Love that coloring.
Jerry
Curt, nice colors on those boards.
Nice kit !
great start, can't wait to see more

I did a small foundry from an old EL Moore design. So I'll be interested to see how this comes together. I did put a 'fireplace light' module into the foundry fire.

Afternoon All,
Thank you Terry, Larry, Jerry, Rick, Philip, Eric and Dave for following along and your nice comments.
Dave That's a nice looking foundry.
Over the last 3 days I built the remaining 3 walls on the carrier sheet then cut the walls off then drilled 3 holes for the hardware for a garage door and stenciled the name above the holes.

Well done Curt. The lettering came out really nice.
Jerry
Curt nice job on the walls including the stenciling.
Curt, wood colors and lettering came out very nicely.
Howdy, Curt, nice work on all the wood siding. The stencil sign looks great. Have fun, mike
Nice!
Curt,
Just catching up with the thread, the walls look great.
Nice colouring on the timber, Curt.
The walls look great.
Cheers, Mark.
Curt,
As stated by the others, the walls coloring does look great.
Tell me what you need the "U" channel for? Is it for the sliding doors?
Rich
Curt,
Great start and great looking walls.
Tom
Afternoon All,
Thank you Jerry, Larry, Rick, Mike, Philip, Ron, Mark, Rich, and Tom for following along and your kind comments.
Rich yes, the "U" channel is for a sliding doors.
Since the last update I have been adding doors and windows to the Pattern Shop walls. I had to redo the "U" channel a second time since I was unhappy with the results the first time around.
Note the garage door curves inward at the top.
20251009_110241.heic
Nice job on the re-do, Looking real good.
Curt that's looking really good and great coloring on the doors. The curved door is that the way it's supposed to be or is it a faulty print.
Looking great, Curt...how about some scrape marks on the wall where the door bottoms scratch the wall from opening and closing ..just a thought
terry
Beautifully done Curt.
Larry that's the way the door is suppose to be thanks to Brett.
Jerry
Nice work on the walls Curt. And nice job on the sliding doors.
On a side note: While we were on the Railroad Line Forums, I started a scratchbuild of this diorama that is not totally finished yet. And I never got a chance to show anything before the site went down.
Now that you are building this kit, I probably won't show mine. I don't want to take away
any of your fanfare! Your build is looking great.
Rich
Curt, great job as usual on the window's and doors.
Rich, I don't know why you wouldn't want to start a separate thread on your build.
Rich I don't think you would take anything away from Curt's build.
So get off your dead *** and start a thread for God's sake!! :)
Besides yours is scratch built!
Jerry
Rich I have no problem with you doing a build thread at the same time, especially if it's a scratch build.
Thanks Jerry for the info; I was curious about that.
Rich just go for it!
Nice work! 8)
Curt,
The redone rolling door looks great, looks like it was well worth the effort.

Curt,
I truly appreciate the jesture for me to start a thread, but I am currently still working on my 1:1 list of projects for the CEO. When I can free up some time and if I can find my photos, I will most likely take you up on this. Thank you.
I also want to thank Rick, Larry, and Jerry for their comments as well. And Jerry, who has a dead ***? certainly not me! ;D
Rich
Hi Curt.
I'm a little confused by your door with a bend at the top? If it is a sectional door, and you are showing the door partially raised, you will need a gap at the bottom (unless I'm missing something). I opened our garage door to have a look, and I would estimate between 10" - 12" of gap at the bottom to represent the angle you have at the top.
BTW - I think the stonework in this kit is gorgeous!
Cheers, Mark.
Afternoon All,
Thanks for following along Gary, Larry, Terry, Philip, Ron, Rich, and Mark and your kind remarks and questions.
Terry I did what I could to rough up the bottom of the frame.
Mark this is a mistake on my part but to try to reset the door will destroy it, so it's as they say "it is what it is". ::)
Today I finished the Pattern Shop with the exception of a smoke stack and a roof water tank that are added later in the build.
I have to say the rafter tails were a major pain in the butt to put on.

Curt very well done and the details look great. Have fun with the next steps.
Great lookin build so far, you are a speedy builder.
You need to button this up before the white flakes arrive. ;D

Curt your doing a wonderful job on this.

Cool structure. Nice work on the details.
Jeff
Howdy Curt, that's really nice work painting the details. The structure is looking fantastic. Have fun, mike
Curt,
Very well done. I agree with all the comments above.

Before this post,I was not convicted by the color of the wall, but it seems it was due to the light.
The building look terrific, excellent work.

It's been a while, but here's the latest. Currently I have been working on the Repair Shop which butts up to the Pattern Shop rear wall. I also built the platform that the Repair Shop sits on with space in front for an awning yet to be built.
I'm currently working on the roof which has shingles and the awning has tar paper.

Excellent!
Good colors on everything and nice neat assembly.
Curt great job!!! Love the details just glad I didn't have to paint them knowing how small they can be in O scale, can't imagine doing them in HO.
Wonderful job on those roofs Curt.

Jerry
Curt, Jerry's comment above is correct! You are doing a great job with the kit.
You fella's mentioned previously that I should put up a thread showing my scratchbuild of this Foundry.
The main reason why I haven't yet done that is after switching out several computers, most of the build pictures I once had, are now gone. I did manage to find a few, so if I'm missing any, I will take some up-close pictures of my buildings, so that I can show what I accomplished in my build.
I also stated, first and foremost, I do not want to take away from you being in the limelight with anything I may show, to overpower your build. I feel that showing what we construct can be used as a teaching tool, and heck, who knows, I may learn some new skills too. With that said, I will put up a new thread.
Heck, we might make a scratchbuilder out of ya! ;D 8) :)
Rich
Curt,
I agree with the others, you've done a really good job. And, I also love the roofs.
Tom
Howdy Curt, the foundry looks exceptional. The colors, details, and construction are top-notch. It's amazing that you did it all in one month. Well done. Have fun, mike
Afternoon All,
Thank you Terry, Rick, Larry, Jerry, Rich, Tom, and Mike for following along and your kind comments.
This is a small update. I finished the walls of the Tempering Shed and glued them together. I built the roof per instructions but I didn't like the look so I built my own slightly larger. Although it's sitting on the walls it's not glued since the directions say to wait until later.
The workbench and furnace are just sitting to show their position when completed. The 2 walls not shown are just plain black tarpaper and will be hidden.

Nice update Curt. You are making way with with this now, almost on the home stretch
with this group of buildings. They all look good to me. But what do I know?
I saw other modelers add some black chalk just above the fire door, like soot,
after they painted the bricks on the bottom of the firebox. You just need a light dusting
here and there, like when they open and close the firedoor. A little goes a long way.
Perhaps you can remember that when you get there. It adds to the realism.
You are doing well with this kit. And, oh! Thanks for having me...
Rich
YIPES!!!!! :o You have made a lot of progress since I last looked in. The three buildings look great, I think I need to be looking in more often.
Curt, nice job!
I especially like the color variation on the roof.
Curt this is looking soooo good. Really like your color choices for the build. I see Brett included a resin casting; I'm surprised it's not a 3D printed one. Have fun painting that.
Curt great job on this. Your coloring is right on.
Jerry
Likey! 8)
Curt...in the last pic, the wood fascia is showing on the shingle roof. I think the roof shingles should lap over that. Just my 2 cents

After observing the post Curt made on #59, it appears to me that he may have shingled the roofs ok, and afterwards he glued on some facia strips to cover any jagged edges of the shingles. I would tend to believe that is ok. I think he just wanted to trim the edges nicely. Thinner stripwood would enhance that look maybe, but we all have our own ways of doing things.
Rich
Afternoon All,
Thanks for following along and your kind words Rich, Ron, Rick, Larry, Jerry, and Philip.
Terry you are correct about the overhang for tarpaper but it's impossible to correct without causing damage.
Rich thanks for your thoughts and that is why I did the trim the way I did.
Today I glued the pattern shop, tempering oven and shop and repair shop together. There is obviously many details such as smoke stacks left to do coming up in the next steps.

Curt, nice color on the wood and roofs as well.
Bricks look very good as well.
Nice work.
Curt,
You've been busy! I like the colors of everything you have done so far too.
You even have details finished. My downfall always. A time-consuming effort.
Carry on my friend. Looking good.
Rich
Curt now that is looking very nice indeed and your details you've done so far look good to me. Keep at 'er and enjoy the process.
Looking good, Curt...seeing this come together almost makes me sorry I gave my foundry kit to my son.
terry
Good Afternoon,
Thank you Jerry, Mike, Karl, John, Rick, Rich, Larry, and Terry for your kind words and comments.
Since the last update I have been working on the stone foundry. First I put together the windows and coloring with medium brown and dusty brown weathering powders and RA. The window glass is painted with Tamiya NATO gray and RA.
20251110_092102.heic
Afternoon that the walls were sprayed with flat kakhi and when dried for 24 hours given a coat of A&I.
Then I put together the colors for the stones. The container was suggested in the directions.
20251110_094943.heic
Afternoon randomized the colors I did a ash gray dusting followed by another A&I coat.
20251111_091348.heic
Finally the last photo shows the detail parts laid on the walls and the windows and door glued in place. The instructions say to attach the details to the walls before using epoxy to connect the walls then clamp. I'm nervous this could damage the details, so I will attach them afterwards.

Sorry the second picture won't transfer for some reason.
The stone walls are looking very nice, Kurt.
I think this is some of the nicest stone carving I have seen on this kit. What does RA stand for?
Cheers, Mark.
Curt excellent job on the walls!! The colors chosen look great. Have fun and enjoy the build.
Mark Rubbing Alcohol.
Great coloration of the stone! Nice work!
That looks great!
Curt...that is some great looking stone
terry
Curt,
The stonework look great.
Curt,
Your stone walls look good, like the rest have said.
Maybe I should have kept my kit. The stone walls on my scratchbuild have much smaller stones
to color, making it more difficult to complete. I have yet to color them, but am going to do that this evening.
I'm not going to use powders & alcohol like the kit suggests. If mine turn out looking half as good as yours,
I'll tell you what I did. Time will tell. Keep up your good work.
Rich
It all looks fantastic!
Good Afternoon,
Thank you Mark, Larry, Dave B., Philip, Terry, Ron, Rich, and Rick for following along and your very kind comments.
I have been working on the last separate structure in the build, the Main Office. For its small size it took a lot of time to get it to it's current state. Although not shown I have shingled the roof which I will paint tomorrow. Of note the front has a recessed entrance.
This is the back side of the front wall.

Hi Curt,
You have come a long way with your expert construction.
I like the way you distressed and colored the wood on this building.
Since you first posted any of your thread, I've been trying
to read that sign on the far back wall past your structures.
What does it say?
Rich
Rich thanks for the question. Years ago I found a online Foundry that made Pennsy whistle and bell signs. When I recieved the package the sign was included as a freebee. It's a little heavy and works well when placed on small wet parts. I then place weight on the sign. I painted the signs.
20251125_105003.heic
Curt great job on the Office and love all the signage. Your kit is coming together really well.
Curt beautiful stone work.
And the front of the building so well done.
Jerry
Afternoon All,
Thank you Mark, Mike, Rich, Larry, and Jerry for following along and your kind comments.
Since the last update I have been working on the Foundry roof, roof structures, and the work office roof. Both roofs are standing seam and heavily weathered. The first photo shows the roof with the vent supports glued in place.

Next up is with slats and exhaust stack attached attached. The slats slid into place easily.

Curt,
The roof color compliments the stone walls quite nicely.
This is going to look fabulous when it's finished.

The roof on the foundry looks amazing; very true to life. All three buildings look great together. Curt you have another winner here.
Looking good, Curt! (To paraphrase a line from "Trading Places".) ;D
