Title: It finally dawned on me.
Post by: Dave Buchholz on November 18, 2025, 01:25:01 PM
It has taken me a long time to figure out what "The Geezer's Lounge" was/is really all about. At first, I admit I didn't understand it. It seemed it was a bunch of "old guys" talking about weather reports more than anything else, and imaginary breakfasts. (WITHOUT CHEERIOS! How barbaric!)

It has obviously morphed from what it began as  years ago, on a different forum, and the tribute that it later became to the original "Geezer". I came very late into that scene, years late with little, if any knowledge of its past history, or even who or what was the " Geezer" it referred to.

It seems to me now at least, in the current era, the weather and "breakfast" are simply ice breakers that are part of the tradition. The thread now seems to serve a greater purpose....at least from my perspective, and hopefully perhaps yours.  My realization is that it has become a form of a support group for fellow modelers within this forum that share their lives.  Frankly, I didn't realize how much at times that I needed one . Not so much for modeling..( ok so I suck at that sometimes,.  Ok A LOT of times)... but more for the struggles of life. Particularly of late in mine.

We share our daily frustrations about life, about health, about loved ones.  Maybe some humor (I still want my Honey Nut Cheerios) Whatever you personally believe of the current path, on the geezer thread on this forum, I am grateful you guys are out there to share.

You have prayed for my wife's health for which I'm an eternally thankful. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your lives, and more so, for being a part of mine.

Atta Boy Dave  ;)  ;)  ;)  ;) it is indeed for any and all the reasons you detailed.  I've personally experienced the kindness, generosity, and genuine love of our fellow human beings here.  I don't always post to everybodys' projects, or drop by 'Geezers' Lounge - but I always look at as many projects as I can...so much art in one place, and where there's this much creativity there's tons of love and interaction along with the sincere desire to connect, and the need to belong.  We are what our endeavors purport us to be, and what our efforts reveal about us is so much more important than opinions, or 'talk'.  I've been blessed beyond my expectations or hopes by the fellowship here.....and I always try to see into the person who  is typing their thoughts, or posting their pictures, or 'discussing the weather'....hot, cold, rain, or shine...the folks gathered here are the ones that can and DO make life matter......and I'm so greatful for that.....see ya........... 8)  8)  8)  8)  8)  8)  8)

The original Bill "Geezer" Andersen was the glue holding us modelers together at Railroad-Line forum. Story teller and avid modeler.

Reading through this thread I have to agree with everything mentioned. This really is a place with a great bunch of "fellers" which I'm very grateful for and is usually my first stop of the morning. Hey Karl if you don't see your name listed in the obits then that IS a good day!! Thanks guys for just being there!!!!!!!!!

I got to know Bill (aka Geezer) at the Railroad Line Forum when he asked me if I could do some machine work for him while he was still living in, I believe Virgina. IIRC he was going to move to Arizona. The machining he requested was the lower of an AR-15. I declined since that's a no-no by Fedral Law. But that one exchange with him set a freindship in motion.

At that time I was trying out the Darker Side of modelrailroading and was going to build an On30 layout. In the process I built two On30 boxcabs which wound up on his layout. After I came to my senses and figured out I couldn't model in two different scales, I decided to stick with HO and it's associated gauges. Here are two pictures of one of On30 boxcabs in his layout.

After Geezer's passing there was a tribute build for Bill. What better way than to honor him than to build two HOn30 boxcab's with his logo on the side.

Here's to you Geezer. May you run your heavenly railroad.

I never had the pleasure of knowing the man but I am grateful that this forum was able to carry on the great tradition started on R.R Line. I too have found this discussion one of the best on the Forum, (but after having my first cup of coffee).

Good morning everyone. I must admit that I don't often post on this morning lounge as I should,
but I always thought it was meant for On30 scale modelers mostly. I believe earlier this year, that Rick
suggested that is not the case, that anyone is invited to post instead.

I want to add my 2 cents to the post above from Bernd. When the Railroad Line Forums was active and when Bill (Geezer) was alive, and if I had any modeling questions, he always made an attempt to answer any and all of my questions in a timely manner. If he didn't know the answer, he directed me to someone who did. So, when the tribute came to be, I entered with a structure build to honor him too. Bill had another hobby besides model railroading. It was fishing. If you zoom in to the front of my scratchbuild of FSM's Elijah Roth's main building, you will see a barrel with a sign in it. "Gone Fishin", to honor Bill. Also, every night on the RRL, the guys who showed up to post, always topped the nite off with a nite-cap, either a bottle of Red (wine) or White (wine), or whatever else you had. You can see how I added that to my model as well. Guy sitting next to red & white bottles on upper platform. And a keg of brew! Enjoy.      Rich

The only O scale Campbell structure I built with that namesake in 2017.

I wasn't aware of what was going on..
I'm glad I saw this.
So many "guys" exist in solitude.
This is a great thread!
I hope I can contribute now that I'm enlightened.

I probably started more than 50 RR-Line threads and contributed to twice as many started by others (leaving out the purely social threads). I joined RR-Line in late 2007, when it was at least 3 years old. I believe Geezer joined much closer to RR-Line's inception.
