Title: Wednesday, February 11, 2026
Post by: Zephyrus52246 on February 11, 2026, 08:02:29 AM
Morning all,

Sunny and a high of 49 here today.  Packing day for our Florida trip.  Of course it will be in the 60s here Tuesday, probably not much warmer there.   :P   I would have preferred going when it's in the 80s there (usual temp this time of year 70s), but my wife really thought she'd want to get away from the February Iowa weather.  Oh, well...

Adding the trim to the kit build, slow process.  The "Peel and stick" pieces don't peel well.  the "stick" comes off with the peel strip.  Each piece glued on, wait to dry under weight, do the next one.

They said "a few inches of snow", we got 8"  Looks like Dover NH got the most snow, I'll be interested to hear what James and Raymo got.  Fortunately, it was nice light powder, and wife's AWD Volvo sedan could get out of the driveway before the plow guy came.  It's now bright and sunny, heading to 37, and we'll have "maple sugar weather" for the next week.  Below freezing nights, above freezing days.

This morning it's "good deed doing", helping my neighbor fix some stuff at his wife's church (she's the pastor.)  Then lunch, and back to the farmhouse.

Grey and 20s again today after a ramp up to 40+ yesterday, 20 some days below freezing.

That sounds like a healthy amount of snow, Dave.  Sugaring time, eh? the endless mud and freeze make for a good season.  The folks here abouts are really into all that, with the Village nearby called Vermontville it's quite a deal.  The last weekend of April has the festival, boy do the characters come in from where ever for that!

The Doll and I drifted out and headed West to GRap yesterday and got away from the "cabin" I hit the LHS and a late lunch at our go to burger join over there.

Today, layout stuff.

KS

Enjoy the trip Jeff, I'd like a week in the warm but the last time we did that, went to AZ, it was in the 80s all week in MI and it snowed in Phoenix and Tucson.

Enuf, be well all.

Good morning, Jeff, Dave, Karl and late risers. Jeff, I've been the New Englander splashing in 63F water while cold Floridians huddled on the beach in sweatshirts. All things considered, I'd spend my money on going farther South in January or February.

The lower Merrimack Valley got maybe 3.5" of powdery snow.  Kid had driven in over it as the snow was stopping around 10:30 last night; He asked for the Dorm Proctor job b/c resume but when they don't check in properly he gets home even later, and he didn't enjoy that NH had skipped one state highway he had to use. All 3 of us got outside about 7:30 and hand-shoveled the long driveway. Wife & kid departed on time, I did the PV panels, next will be the mailbox and all 20 feet of the barn cellar driveway, then carrying grain to the cow barn in the tractor bucket.

Perhaps after lunch I'll have the energy to drive 45 minutes for more styrene, perhaps I'll just mail-order it.

Well, I didn't get down to the train room today.  Between the snow, helping my neighbor at his church, then lunch, then wife calling with a flat tire, and picking up medicine for the dog, it was a full day...

Plumber is coming first thing tomorrow to look at the up-flushing system for the basement (train room bathroom including the sink where I clean paintbrushes, etc...)  My guess is he'll diagnose a failed pump and have to order a replacement.  I'm expecting the house to stink after he opens the unit, fortunately it'll be above freezing so we can open a window to help air out the house.

Afternoon all,

Yesterday I drove Jr. to the airport. Tomorrow I have to drive down there you pick him up. Not my favorite place to have drive around. Did some clean up duties outside today. Not much happening on the workbench front.

Have a great one!

Evening all,

Hope everyone had or is having a great day.

I've been in and out of the train shed doing a little bit of everything.
