D-Day Remembrance.
Greetings from rain soaked but sunny now Michigan as we remember the terrible sacrifices made on the beaches on this date so many years ago.
Fresh fruit, oranges, grapefruit, strawberries and pine apple as set out on the table with cofee and tea, hot or iced. Cereal and milk as well.
I've a couple web cams on up in the corner of my big monitor of Fostoria OH where the Big Boy 4014 is scheduled to pass thru around 2 pm today. Folks are already gathering in and around the Norfolk Southern line. I liked to train watch in Fostoria in the past but with the new facility in the UP that is out. I'm sure it will be a jam up of folks there today.
Mowing might get some attention here today, we'll see if it dries out enough. We really did get soaked yesterday.

Watching videos of the 4014 I'm amazed (and concerned) about how close people are getting to the locomotive. UP constantly reminds people to stay 25 feet from the tracks, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Good Morning Karl, Jeff and others that follow. It's sad that we're down to a small group of soldiers that fought for this country's freedom on that day and throughout the war. Yesterday, I informed the Retirement office of my pending departure at the end of July. After 38 years, I don't see things getting any better for me by staying there. Time to fire up the Gravely and cut some grass. DR

My better half gets bummed out when I watch movies about WWII. She watched "Nuremburg" with me a few weeks ago and said it was a very good movie, one that everyone should watch, however she doesn't want to watch it a second time. It's too depressing she said. Earlier this week I watched "The Forgotten Battle" on Netflix. She was home when I was watching it. I didn't think she was paying attention, but she said it was a good movie however it too, was also very depressing.
I started a small FOS kit yesterday and made a fair amount of progress on it. I hope to get farther along today. Tomorrow morning, we hit the road for our two week adventure. I'm hoping my back and hip don't act up too much. They've been a little better, of late, but I haven't been very active. I anticipate a lot of walking over the course of this trip. The Doc gave me something that should help if needed.

I'm currently reading a book on the end of the Normandy campaign, called "August 1944". I've studied Falaise Gap fairly intensively after our visit to Normandy, both the north side (British, Canadian and the Polish Armored Division), and the south side (US and Free French armored divison.) Of course, as someone who served in the 101st Abn, I went to some of the significant drop zones, as well as looking out over the beaches where the infantry divisions landed.
We in the US need to remember the contributions of British and Canadian forces, both on D-Day ("Gold," "Sword," and "Jumo" beaches) and afterwards. Caen, Mont Ormel, and St Lambert sur Dives are all worth visiting, if you go to Normandy.
In a bit, I'll head back down to the basement. Yesterday I assembled some shelf units, and today I'll populate those with stuff I've bought to store scenery materials. Tomorrow I start more eye drops for Eye #2's cataract surgery on Tuesday. Given the pollen in the air, it's a good time to learn how to do eye drops...

We watched Nuremberg this past weekend. The Doll reinforced how little she paid attention to in school. :o It was indeed depressing but informative to us both.
Just watched the Big Boy at Fostoria. What a crowd.
