Title: Saturday Oct. 17 lounge
Post by: jbvb on October 17, 2026, 08:08:31 AM
I had a minute before departing to the NMRA Northeastern Region convention in Southbridge, MA, so I'll open up: Urn warming up, Baldwin, Haralson and Beacon apples on the counter. Sorry, haven't found any pastry options worth writing home about on this trip.  Intersting visit to the Connecticut Eastern RR Museum in Willimantic yesterday, including a guest appearance by a freight on the former CV line to New London.

Once at the hotel I'll check in at the contest to see if they need another judge.  Otherwise conversations with friends, attending presentations and occaisional IT interventions, the usual convention stuff.

The cold front came through last night, we could hear wind gusts all night.  The high for the day was at midnight, downhill since.  This afternoon's Scotch Club will be chilly and windy, we'll have to be careful with the fire.

I have mixed feelings about NMRA meets.  It's in part because of my relatively narrow modeling interests, but I usually find some clinics of interest.  But besides James, I don't have many local friends in the hobby.

So after time on the exercise machine, I'll probably work on the resin car kit.  It's been painted, now it's just assembly.

Good Morning;

Apparently the cold front is reaching down to Central Florida. They say we've reached the high already at 72 and temp expected to fall all day. A nice change for us. The Sunshine Region NMRA is this week also. I had plans to be there for all three days but not to be. Wife is out of town, things had to be done around house and so I managed a couple of hours there. I did drop of the pickle factory to have it graded for the AP Structures category, hopefully it will pass. It is really not finished, a lot more interior details and landscaping to do but the structure itself is finished so we will see.

Well off to a cup of coffee and time to go pick up the model. I have more to do today so won't be able to stay there for afternoon but might get to see one clinic that looked good. Have a great day.

Most of my local guys are NMRA members with active Regional & Division groups that are big into conventions, etc. Not so much my agenda. 2-3 ops a month and working on my lone wolf layout is good enuf. Div 5, Lansing/ Mid Michigan "allows" me to show up at their local meetings 2-3 per year. Depending where they hold them.
