Agreed, very nice.  The outdoor lift is a nice touch!

It's great to see the forum online and functioning again. Thanks for all the hard work and stubborn persistence that it must have taken to get to this point.  Looking forward to checking in regularly.

Nice going so far, Bob!
That screen door is fantastic.  I am constantly amazed at the beautifully engineered laser components now available.  I still have a few of the old wood doors punched out with a die that instructed you to use the head of a pin for a doorknob.

New Structure Kits / Re: Red Hook Wharf

Wondering how many model railroad craftsman kit builders there are in this wide world?  Do we number a hundred thousand, tens of thousands, or possibly just thousands?  (I can't imagine much less than that.)  Most of the other model railroading kit builders I know prefer plastic Walthers type kits.  That knowledge would surely have an effect on the relative wisdom of re-releasing old kits.

Sure wish I had room on my layout for this beauty--I've been wistfully looking at it on eBay for years.  But all  remaining real estate on the Twin Mountain line is spoken for.

Good morning all,

Some quiet time with coffee before the family comes over for breakfast. Blueberry muffins, scrambled eggs and friend potatoes in abundance (muffins are baked, potatoes are frying in batches now as I type).

No new snow last evening, but still well below freezing here and still windy.  Winter is large and in charge at the moment.

Take care!

I totally agree with everyone, John. Absolutely top shelf modeling. It turned out great.
This is one to come back to for reference.

Thank you for the very kind words. I will be building more water towers for my layout and I will be coming back to this thread for reference, myself.  It will help me remember what I did. ;)  Us retired guys have to stick together. If I remember correctly you have about a month to go before you officially join our ranks.

Thanks for remembering, John. Yes, just two weeks now. It's a strange, but good feeling, seeing it so close.

Passing along a big "Hey y'all!" from Tom (ACL1504).  I just got off the phone with him.  He sounded good and is looking forward to getting back to the workbench/layout and the forum but is not quite ready yet.

That's good news, indeed. Thanks for the Tom update, Bob.

Brian Bollinger (besttrains.com) has gators.  Last time I went to Springfield, I added some gators to Russ Greene/NEBrownstone's display.  Bought them at Brian's booth, walked over to Russ' booth, and installed them.  (Russ has roots in Louisiana.)

Finished Kits & Dioramas / Fos Oyster Skiff Kitbash
January 27, 2022, 08:12:23 AM
From childhood I've always loved the Blue Bayou portions at the beginning of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean ride. I have been determined to add some of that atmosphere to the swampy caverns portion of my layout. This is the first houseboat I've come up with, created from the hull of FOS oyster skiff. The cabin is scratchbuilt from spare parts.

Here is a natural color shot of the nearly finished swamp houseboat. I will probably add a tire bumper or two for effect and maybe some crab pots thrown up on the roof.

And here is an atmosphere shot with the blue lights on, as well as showing the other side.

The FOS kit includes two hulls, so I can start dreaming up the second houseboat.  I'll post that once done.
