Afterward headed towards the next hike which will be another 14er tomorrow.

I hope everyone that hasn't check in in a while are doing well.

Ended up going to Costco yesterday.
Got out of there for less than $100 which is rare.
Then drove to a Park and Ride where I spent the night and met my friend.
Got to meet his girlfriend and she is very nice.
Hiking today and it will be a later start, 7:30, because they're not as much morning people as I am.

It was tough getting good pictures at Black Canyon NP.
Not a lot places where you get a good view into the canyon.
And the dark rocks and lack of sunlight in canyon was another issue.
This was the best view into the canyon I could get and the only place where you can see a little bit of the Gunnison River.

Rob, that's an outstanding job of carving.
I wouldn't have thought of using a pen.
The aluminum foil did a nice job of adding texture.
Colors you used look very natural.

Ron, I know you're glad to get done with the tedious step of adding the NBW's.
Using the Tichy castings saved a lot of stress and they look good.
The deck turned out very good.
Looks like you're almost done with the build and getting close to doing the install.

How's everyone else.

Never did get a nap yesterday, but I slept much better last night.
Yesterday's plans changed drastically.
I drove to the trailhead of the trail I was going to hike today.
The road there is narrow single track, very rocky and steep.
I got there OK but then things changed dramatically.
The road there is very narrow and there's room for only three cars.
There were already three cars there and an ATV too.
It was too narrow to turn around so I stopped the van and got out to walk and see if the road widened so I could turn around.
Just then someone came up the road in front of me.
I couldn't get past him and he couldn't get past me.
He agreed to go backwards down the road and after a couple hundred yards was able to pull over enough for me to get past.
That section of the road was extremely rutted and for the first time I had a rock lightly and briefly scrape the bottom of the van.
Fortunately now damage and was able to get back down to the bottom and get back on the highway.
It was white knuckles the whole way though.
I decided to skip that hike, which is a shame because it's gorgeous, and drive back towards to Boulder to meet up with my friend from Oregon and do a hike with him tomorrow.

I don't think it's a Goose.
Looks like a critter the shops cobbled together and it looks like it's been refurbished.

A quick search turned this up:

This is the "Casey Jones" rail bus, a historic vehicle built in 1915 for the Sunnyside Mill and Mine to transport miners and freight in Silverton, Colorado.Originally powered by a Ford Model T engine, it was later converted to utilize a Cadillac V-8 engine.It is currently preserved and on display at the San Juan County Historical Society Museum in Silverton.

There was talk earlier about bears and I had mentioned that talking loudly is the best deterrent.
Bells are not the best deterrent.
