Baggage Car - Daily Chat / Saturday Jun 6 D-Day
June 06, 2026, 09:43:47 AM
D-Day Remembrance.

Greetings from rain soaked but sunny now Michigan as we remember the terrible sacrifices made on the beaches on this date so many years ago.

Fresh fruit, oranges, grapefruit, strawberries and pine apple as set out on the table with cofee and tea, hot or iced. Cereal and milk as well.

I've a couple web cams on up in the corner of my big monitor of Fostoria OH where the Big Boy 4014 is scheduled to pass thru around 2 pm today.  Folks are already gathering in and around the Norfolk Southern line.  I liked to train watch in Fostoria in the past but with the new facility in the UP that is out.  I'm sure it will be a jam up of folks there today.

Mowing might get some attention here today, we'll see if it dries out enough.  We really did get soaked yesterday.

Enjoy the day all.

Rain and grey in Michigan

We're getting a good soak today, a great day to roll over and hide. But my GI Doc/P A, canx my appt next Wednesday for unknown conflict and offered me a noon appointment today so I'm getting ready and headed out that way.

Bench time is planned when I return.

We had a nice wandering day yesterday for the Doll's XXXth birthday. Sunny but cool.

Our daughter and granddaughter drove up to the cedar swamp and put a once over on the bunker at Northern Command finding things in good shape and fit. It was quite chilly there. We hope to go up soon.

I hope everyone is having a great day. Be well.

Dull Grey overcast with Chilly temps in Michigan.

Eggs and sausage on the table this morning, all the extras you can imagine.

Slow day at hand.  I came across the OLD Model Railroader Project Turtle Creek Central decals in my box o'stuff and have a Data Only boxcar I'm decorating with them.  Old external braced car from Accurail.  Coming out ok after I clear coated them, the first logo I slid off tried to come apart.  I salvaged it.  Looks ok.  ;)

No sign of summer here, Spring might sneak in by the weekend, with rain.  A few days without appointments, may trigger a mini trip to Northern Command, long handles and Carhartts :-\

Farmers here about busting their buns planting, lots of dust all over from them.

All I've got.  What say you?

Baggage Car - Daily Chat / Oops, it’s SUNDAY
April 19, 2026, 10:02:38 AM
Cold but sunny here in Michigan this morning. Temp in 30s. Sausage, eggs and grits on the menu today. Biscuits and home churned butter top it off.

I'm in the midst of a dcc install using the fine point tip on the rechargeable handheld soldering iron. It was working great but the battery went off line. It's charged and ready to go.

Nice to have sun. It has been raining so much lately things are soaked.

What's up in your neck of the woods?

Enjoy the day and sunshine!

IT REALLY IS SUNDAY.

Baggage Car - Daily Chat / Thursday the two-th
April 02, 2026, 11:03:14 AM
Freezing rain, temperatures around 30 with temperatures eventually headed to 60oby late afternoon. With us well into the yellow graphic on the Severe Weather Potential Imagery. Old age orthopedic deficits are at a peak today. It's a sales boon for the Tylenol and Aspirin sellers.

Indoor activities are on tap for today if I warm up.

What's going on in your world?

Up way to early this MONday, breakfast is coming.  Eggs as you like, grits, biscuits and fresh churned butter.  Sausage patties and bacon.  Special K and skimmed milk for the dietarily challenged.  Grape fruit is ready, next to the b-nanners...

Snow is forecast for here in Michigan.  Not much tho.  Something changing in the weather as my joints all ached and awakended me around 0530 and I finally gave up and decided to hit the kitchen.

I accomplished little yesterday, reaching an oh-hum with the layout ::) .

The Doll and her wild hare have a car they want to look at over the the West a bit.  We'll see how that goes.   :-X

Have a great day all, be safe stay between the lines.

Hashbrowns, eggs and sausage on the line this morning.   8) Our 65o is gone but the rain has been replaced by sun 8)  and wind.  30s with wind feels like 20s.

My favorite day of year, Daylight time makes my world complete :D .

Layout time today and then a tense hoops game, SPARTY will play the A2 rodents there, they have had a great team all year with a better record.  Challenge for sure. :o

Layout time If I get a chance as well.

Be well all.  Enjoy the day.  Safety First.

Baggage Car - Daily Chat / Tuesday post Eclipse
March 03, 2026, 08:55:57 AM
Folks in Michigan that got up early enough saw a partial eclipse of the moon early this morning but it was too low behind our woods to catch it here. It's cold still, 20s with hazy bright trending to cloudy skies. Another great freeze/thaw cycle for the Maple Sugaring folks here in the area. It's a big deal in town. (Vermontville) Only real reason to ever go there is the Maple Syrup Festival the last weekend of April. Then the creatures crawl out! :o

Little to report here. Waffles and fake syrup is on the menu. They're still cooking this year's batch.

We had a coyote pass by the cam last night868032066166301-50-4-03032026030308-HD-SYFW8715.jpeg

Really weird because I was talking to my brother yesterday and told him I had never actually seen one right here at my place. They are all over the area by the dozens but they hide quite well most of the time. He said after that chat, his Google feed had a bunch of stuff about coyotes.

Baggage Car - Daily Chat / Friday is here
February 27, 2026, 10:06:34 AM
8) Friday in the sun here this morning.

What a barn burner for SPARTY last night at Purdue. Came back from an early deficit to put the lead in play back and forth for the rest of the game. Quite a raucous crowd kept it exciting to watch. Our first win there in 14 years.

Headed out to Menards for a carry case for model locomotives. The most recent I've picked up have pretty packaging that is not transport friendly.

Hash browns eggs and toast and conjure yourself a drink. Sorry, no Scotch here today. Just a plebeian not accustomed to the hard stuff.

Be well all.

Baggage Car - Daily Chat / Thursday weather coaster
February 19, 2026, 10:16:43 AM
The weather roller coaster is just over the peak, 63o and sun after a stormy morning yesterday took all our snow. Just in 30s this morning and a storm and more rain then back to winter this weekend. Big nasty in the North country is coming to the UP.

Headed to the layout shortly.

What's up in your world?

Baggage Car - Daily Chat / Fat Tuesday
February 17, 2026, 10:45:49 AM
Good late morning from mostly sunny mid Michigan. We have warmer temperatures than average this week and the loss of snow is significant.

Paczki day at the. Bakery. Before they were commercialized this was the only day that they were made, in honor of Fat Tuesday and tomorrow's beginning of lent. Too much money to be made to keep the tradition alive

OPS went well at Kenney's I ran a couple of switching locals and enjoyed everyone there as the day went on.

I noticed a special visitor at the passenger station. You never know what you might see when the layout owner has grand kids  ;D
IMG_3200.jpeg

I think I could get a little more done on the layout if I shuffle the cards right.

So what's up where you're hiding this morning

Baggage Car - Daily Chat / Triskaidekaphobia FRIDAY!
February 13, 2026, 10:03:04 AM
Have no fear, the 13th is here! :o

Sun and high teens going to make a run at 40 today "they" say.  We'll see.

I have a Campbell bridge kit I bought at the 'estate sale' Hobby Shop in W Grand Rapids and it was partially assembled.  Yesterday as I was trying to tie two truss sections together the prior owner's glue came to it's limits >:( and I ended up with a bigger pile of sticks than I had to begin with :( .  Today, I try to recover it without wrecking it worse.  The instructions in the kit are so old they're almost orange and brittle, at least my Epson Scan and Print Ecotank has a decent COPY function and I've been able to redo some of the diagrams. Challenge is also a couple of apparent errors in what had been done.   ::)

Sometime today I need to sneak out and get a Valentines Day card for the Doll, she gave me mine yesterday with a book she bought me.

I hope everyone has a fine day, stay well and healthy.
