Kit Building / Downtown Deco Build Syzek Manufacturing
October 05, 2021, 01:05:02 PM
I just finished  The Syzek build. I am going to use it for a clinic for the Sunshine Region Oct. convention in Plant City. Coloring brick on plastic and plaster model is one of the hardest to make it look real . Following are the pictures and step I used for the Plaster Model.
Cleaned Flash, Had to open up the windows to make the Tichy windows fit. I used emory board and the back side of Exact knife to open them. Coat of white flat spray paint lightly covering a couple
of times. I flat sanded the back of the casting so they where flat using 80 grit sand paper. I also square up the end. This did not take much.
Wash of Georgia Clay paint was applied. A lot of water. You can add more but removing is a bear. Added some pictures for inspiration for doing the model

I have been redoing improving sections of the layout. A industry on the prototype was Hommell corp. They made porcelain frit for the cermamic and appliance industry . They were bought out and then closed about 2010. A siding from the P&WV(N&W) brought covered hoppers into the plant. I rode a excursion in the 1990's by the plant and I got three pictures of the wooden structure .The other parts of the plant I could get from public road. I have had a stand in for the scene for years and it has been removed and I am scratch building the wooden part of the scene and the other brick structures are from Walthers. I cut the windows in the clapboard siding with my Cricut. I got the approx. size using Google earth. First group pictures are of the prototype. More to come

Now lights have been added to the interior. The interior was completed but the old bulbs burnt out. Led installed. Photoshopped background. close up of the mine.

July 13, 2014, 11:01:03 AM
Well I had an open space on my P&WV and Popovich Pipe looked like it would fit the spot nicely. Besides my sister in laws maiden name was Popovich and her dad worked in a steel plant. The box that the kit came in. .
