Good morning,

It's a regular work day for me.  The temp and humidity has dropped so it's rather pleasant outside.

The drywall hanging crew showed up this morning. Hopefully they get the drywall hung and finished without issues.

Today's 1:1 train note:  The NS mainline between Knoxville and Chattanooga passes about 1.3 miles away from my house and it has an at grade crossing on the road I use 80% of the time to get to/from my house.  I get to wait in the car for trains passing by maybe once or twice per week.  Twice now I have had trains come to a complete stop and block the crossing.  If there is no one behind me I can backup and turn around to take a different/backtrack route around the train.  That got me to wondering if there are any DOT rules about trains blocking crossings.  Apparently there are no rules about this. That's all.

Mornin' All,

Woke up to a cooler morning today.  Looks like clouds and some rain this week and lower temps. Hurray.

I'm going to try and find out when the drywall hanging/finish crew is going to get started.

Otherwise a regular/short work week.

Doug

Got my nut/bolt gauge panel mounted yesterday.

My puppy Otis's whining woke me up around 3:20am so I got up and let him out.  And then I couldn't get back to sleep so I have been putzing around all morning.

Nothing major planned for Labor Day.  I might get enough motivation to install an outlet in the family room floor. One advantage of having an 'open' basement ceiling.

What kind of dog is Otis?  Love those big ears!

Otis is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi

I have no experience with the roadbed you mentioned above. I've always used Midwest cork roadbed and have had no issues with excessive sound.

Tom

Yes, Midwest cork is an option that I have used in the past.  I will have about 600 ft of mainline roadbed so if I can save some money I figure I should at least investigate.  :)

Edit: 600 ft of mainline roadbed. My original 1200 ft was 'there and back'.  :)

Good morning,

I did a few house chores yesterday (including roughing in a NEMA 6-20 outlet in my basement garage for use by my Grizzly dust collector).  I also did real work for several hours as we are in release crunch mode.  Looks like I will be doing real work today as well as there is an issue/defect and the real SMEs for this area are 'out'.

Question: On my old layout I used Woodland Scenic foam road bed where I needed raised road bed. While it installed very easily/quickly, I found it to be too soft for my taste.  I was wondering if any of you have used the "sound foam roadbed" that is sold on EBay?  Like this:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/202462228147?_nkw=ho+scale&itmmeta=01J6PPRVKYF8861XDHZGCQK4EN&hash=item2f23b06eb3:g:2DsAAMXQTgZQ~m4X

If looks like maybe a good option?

Happy Friday!  And a 3 day weekend for those of us still grinding away 9-5.  Or 7-4 for me.

Drywall for basement walls was delivered this morning. 12x4 sheets.  10 in the basement garage and 30 in the train layout room. Hopefully the drywall hangers can get started soon.

Good morning all,

It's going to be another hot day here.  No sign of any rain until next week.

It will be a full day working the real job.

Hopefully the  basement drywall will be delivered today as schedule.

Good morning.

Today is a regular work day for me.

We are about 2 weeks into a rainless period.  The green stuff I call a yard is turning brown. About 20 years ago when the subdivision was originally created it was previously a cattle ranch so my yard is basically a former cattle pasture with about 50% weeds and 50% tall fescue.  Over time I plan to overseed with Kentucky 31 fescue to evolve it into more grass and less weed.  No irrigation system is planned so the 'lawn' has to survive on its own.  :)

Anticipating basement drywall delivery tomorrow. Which is good that it hasn't rained.  When the red/orange clay/dirt gets wet it's slick like an ice rink.  One time I was driving my Expedition around to the basement garage door 2 days after it had rained and it was still slick enough that my Expedition slid 35-40 feet down the hill before it would stop.

Edit to add: Drywall delivery just got postponed until Wednesday.

Cleaning/organizing the layout room space to prepare for drywall installation. Hopefully they will start hanging drywall late in the week or early the following week.  Here you can see my "not summer" tires/wheels (the original/mediocre all season tires) ) and benchwork sections salvaged from the previous layout.

Howdy all,

Yesterday I organized/cleaned the basement so there are locations to drop off the drywall which should be delivered on Tuesday.  Today I plan to pressure wash the front sidewalk/porch (the East TN clay really stains stuff).  And then I will get some real work done.

Mornin' all,

I'm planning to get the basement organized this weekend so they have spots to deliver the drywall on Tuesday.

And I have some real work to get done

Good morning all,

One of my future neighbors happens to be a general contractor (they are currently building a 'compound' at the other end of the subdivision. Their compound will be a house/garage, detached workshop with MIL apartment above, and a detached garage/barn). He will be handling/coordinating the drywall hanging/finishing and painting of the unfinished areas of my basement.  It sounds like the drywall will be delivered on Tuesday and the drywall crew will start hanging late next week. I was anticipating having a much longer wait for the drywall/painting so this would be a big win.

Good morning all.

It's a full week of "pay the bills" work so I haven't gotten much accomplished in the basement.  I am hoping to get the 7 new ceiling duplex outlets (for lighting) wired up/installed today.

Do all the materials to build the layout have to be taken through the workshop?

Cheers, Mark.

Yes, but the layout room is a 'clean' room. No sawing, sanding, etc.  All benchwork construction will be done in the basement 'garage' space.  Same as my previous layout.
