A trick I learned on one of the forums is to put masking tape on either side of the gap, smear the plaster into the gap, then after a few minutes when the plaster has start to set (but before it's hard), remove the tape and carve.

Nice bunch of photos, Mark, including the engine shed.  Looking forward to seeing how you use those paints on the shingles.  Any particular brush you use?

Quote from: ReadingBob on March 11, 2024, 07:12:13 AMMorning all,

Just another workday.  Only six more Mondays to go.  Unless I accept the offer, I received last week to stick around longer or work part time beyond my retirement date.  I'm 95% sure my answer is going to be "Thanks, but no Thanks" on that one.

Nothing noteworthy to report from the workbench.  Last week's home renovation, along with the subsequent cleanup efforts, took me away from the workbench.

Have a great one!
Offer them a consulting contract at 3x-4x your current hourly rate with a cap on hours.    ;D

No time change here in Spain.  They did show snow in the mountains on the weather this morning.  We took the high speed train from Valencia to Madrid, peak speed 300km/hr and VERY smooth ride.  The tracks are spaced farther apart than the Chunnel tracks, so we didn't get that shockwave I remember riding the Chunnel for the first time when a train passed the other way.

We did see a rainbow on the trip, as well as some cool cloud formations.  Today a little rain fell mainly on the plain.

I wouldn't worry too much about having the parking lot area match the street paving.  Those would be done by two different contractors at two different times using two different mixes.  Just be sure to do some dark asphalt filler between the street and the parking lot (and use that stuff to mark/fill in cracks in the asphalt mix on the street.)

It's evening in Valencia.  We'd go to sleep, but then the midnight fireworks would wake us up.

I've decided the gargoyle is face-palming because of something the human said/did.

One thing that has helped pull me out of a modeling funk is to do something in a different scale.  I have a set of 1/35 military kits, and if I get deeply stuck, I'll drag one of those out and give it a crack.  Of course, that requires me to clean off the workbench to make space, which tends to put me back into the "black mood."

Anyway, no modeling for me for the next couple of weeks as we head out on vacation.  One leg of the trip will be on Spanish high speed rail, so that will be fun.

Add:  But I did get some time to mock up the current scene, using the kit that arrived yesterday:

I have a "Paw of the Bear" replacement facade kit for that DPM storefront.  The witch's hat roof on the Merchants Row II bay will help balance its shorter height.  The DPM module is just there to help me visualize the angle of the street heading towards the backdrop.

Last night I slept through the entire night, and feel pretty good after fighting a cold all week.  Just in time, too, as we head out for 2 weeks in Spain on Sunday.  So nothing's happened in the train room.  I hope to get down there this afternoon for a bit of work.

I learned today that well-known model railroad photographer Bob Boudreau has passed away.  His cover photos on RMC were iconic shots, you'd see one and know right away who took the picture.

I'm finally watching the video on Tonbridge.  After hearing about the car park, I want to know "What king is buried there?"

The cyclist is great...  (By the way, the Springfield show handles advance purchases by sending you a hospital-style wrist band that you hold up as you go through the door.)

Well, my head is mostly clear, but my body still aches.  (And that's before PT this afternoon....)  I guess Aleve is in my future.

Otherwise, nothing to report.  It's warm and rainy here. There's still a little bit of snow where the plows banked it up.

I realized last night the bug my wife gave me has symptoms that match the "Springfield Crud" I brought home from that train show a couple years ago.  Ugh.  I am feeling a bit better, hopefully I'll be recovered by the weekend for our forthcoming trip.

Yesterday I did prime the Merchants Row II brick parts, today if I generate enough steam, I'll prime the bay and other parts.

Bright and sunny in SE NH, 21 up from 10 this morning.  Should get above freezing today, this is maple sugaring weather (below freezing nights, above freezing days.)

I've been playing with the "Merchants Row II" kit for the street scene next to the Miners Union Hall.
