Thank you for stopping by and the kind words. I'm looking forward to getting the scenery around this build so it really looks like it belongs there.

Hi Dennis

Thanks for following along with this build thread.  First question: The Trees you see in the picture with Wayne are from Don Ledger in Arizona. He makes them from rope. About half of the pine trees on my layout were made using this technique.  Don has published his technique so you can do a search on his name.  If your interested buy trees from Don send me a PM (Personnel Message) and I will send you his phone number. If you look at Frank Bakers layout thread you will see some of the same trees. Frank introduced me to Don.

Question two: I bought the LED's with the sticky back from Micro Mart a few years ago.  I bought about a 100 of them at the time and just recently tried to buy some more and they no longer have them. The work good for a quick installation where you just need some background lighting in the windows. I don't know of another source but I'm looking.

This is the link to my layout build thread if you are interested in following my layout build. Lots of tree pictures. There is also a volume one of this thread from a few years ago.

Thank you very much.... on page 74 you mentioned you cut the pine trees from cedar shake shingles. how wide and where you get your Green Caspia from. Sorry for so many questions but I'm trying to learn and try to build those pine trees. I&A 50/50? thanks again Dennis

The forum is for questions - we all learn from each other so don't worry about asking questions.  There are two types of pine trees on my layout. The Caspia trees are the ones I use the cedar shingle on.  I split the shingles to about 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch strips and then taper and round them using a belt grinder. I use a alcohol and inch mixture with both black and brown ink.  Mix the ink one spoon at a time into the alcohol testing it for darkness until you get the tree color you want. I bought my caspia from Hobby Lobby and Michels. They use it for flower arrangements.  The natural color is a light brown so I painted it with olive chamo paint to get the color you see. I use a dark pine tree green ground foam once the trees have been assembled.  Use very little ground foam.

Absolutely fantastic John. It will be interesting to see how you scenic the faces along side the tracks. By the way your rockwork on your laying is stunning, what did you use for coloring ? I've tried soooo many different techniques and have always gone back to the woodland scenic coloring for the spray bottles.
