Good morning Jerry and those arriving later.

I hope there's a cinnamon donut left for me to go with the coffee.

Overcast with rain in the forecast in my little corner of upstate NY.

I hope everyone has a safe and rewarding day.

Morning Jerry, Jerry and others drifting in,

I have a Dr. appointment this morning to remove a small growth on the right arm. Nothing serious, just an annoyance.

I'll do some modeling later this afternoon.

Have a great day everyone.

Cloudy, chance of showers all day, but still cool.  After German and a trip to the supermarket, back to the train room to work on the coal dock.

Morning all,

Already completed my 2 1/2-mile walk (which necessitates a shower afterwards) and had breakfast.  Now I'm going to lay low for a little while.  Still smarting a bit from this ear infection and waiting.  This afternoon I'll get back at the workbench.

Have a great one!

Morning All,

Had a great time catching up with some of the gang at Tom's on Saturday.

Goal for this week...clean slate layout status. I want to reduce the benchwork to a base grid of 5' x 8'
and center the layout in the room (moving it 3 inches is no small task and will likely require substantial disassembly. Overall, I'd like to be ready to move forward aggressively when I return (inspired) from the NNGC in mid-Sept.

I'm building in this delay because I ALWAYS return from the NNGC hyped up and ready to re-do everything anyway  ;D

Good morning all,

Yesterday I roughed in most of the un-switched 15A outlets. This morning I finished the un-switched outlets and roughed in the four 20A switched outlets.  All I have left is to tie/tack the romex (mostly in the open ceiling) and zip tie some of the long vertical runs along the metal studs.

Edit to add: UPS delivered 600 pieces of Atlas flex track from Yankee Dabbler this morning.  400 Code 83 and 200 Code 100.  Surprisingly, track has gotten more expensive in the last 8-9 years.  :o

Afternoon,

It has been one of those days of promise to work on diorama, but I got distracted by playing with the Ultrasonic cleaner to clean jewelry and brass. The fluid mix I tried was useless.

Any suggestions on the perfect mix of water heat and chemicals to shine brass?

Coal piles in the bins...  I started with rough cut-off chunks of styrofoam, cut to size, then shaped using a file.  I painted them flat black, then added white glue and sprinkled aquarium black sand completely over the styrofoam.  When that was mostly dry, I did a second load of black sand, and sealed that with Deluxe Materials ballast glue.  While the glue was drying, I applied black pigment all around the bins and trestle pieces. I put the piles into the bins, added some black sand to fill in around the cracks, and one final light coat of ballast glue.  Turns out I have -2 different sizes- of black sand, so the coal dealer will be able to offer 2 sizes of coal.

I also did the end brace:

I need to add the walkway and handrails to the top, and also put the bins and end bent into place and add scenery.  The top will be loose for the near term, so I can remove it when working on the trestle bridge or scenery in the scene.   I need to mix up more ground goop to help fill in around the base, etc.
