Morning all,

Happy belated birthday to Pete!

Gonna be another hot, humid one here.  Headed into the mid 90s.

We have some kind of stinging flyers (my wife's been stung a few times when watering her flower baskets) living in between the landscape bricks on our front steps. I tried a spray 2 days ago that didn't seem to phase them.   Probably go to Lowe's to look for something else today.

I got the loco lubricated and it no longer squeaks.  something is causing it to slow over turnouts, I think something is dragging or maybe the wheels need cleaning.

Good Morning Jeff and all who follow;

Coffee is on and donuts on the counter. I am enjoying both on the back porch before the heat of the day kicks in. Yesterday I went to a local train modeling group I belong to and had a great time. A couple of the members are some of the who's who of the hobby so I get a lot of ideas and tips by just listening and watching.

One of the things I've noticed is the hobby has so many parts to it, each a hobby unto itself but overall we in the hobby tend to stick with methods that are not cutting edge. Some parts of the hobby are under pressure, especially the manufacturers of many of the items we use such the plastic items needed, lighting, castings and so on. Resin 3D printers, laser cutters and the simple fact many who make the niche parts have retired or are no longer in business has really disrupted the hobby. Not sure where we are headed but there sure is a lot of change happening at the moment.

Anyhow, enjoy the weekend!

Parallel universe with stinging creatures, spent a few days with spray chasing away a pineapple sized nest full of mean tempered aggressive sobs that nailed the Doll twice. Finally totally soaked it with spray after dark, then knocked it down and tore it apart. The final stake thru the heart. Now, need to deal with some sort of tunneling creature around the front.  >:( Always something wants to upset the tranquility of life.

Hot and Humid here today. Storms possible in the afternoon.

Many happy returns to Capt Pete!

Bench time is on for today.

Be well all.

Jeff, sounds like some sort of bee around the flowers.  Given the problems with pollinators, it would be better if wife could work out an accommodation without insecticides.

Jim, I think you're right about the influence of technologies.  3D printing in particular allows the production of small runs of custom parts by modelers willing to invest.  And 3D services will allow modelers to design parts and get them printed elsewhere.  Small hobby manufacturers can do designs or design+print services.  Still, some things won't fit that model, like locomotive (steam or diesel) mechanisms.

Karl, there was a big wasp's nest under our porch, back when I was in the National Guard.  I put on all my MOPP chemical gear, including my gas mask, and dared those buggers to bite through that crap.  Then I soaked that nest with bug spray.  (Wasps aren't pollinators, no loss there!)

Weather here is pretty much perfect.  Sunny, occasional puffy cloud, 73 on its way to 82, low humidity.  Longer range forecast doesn't show any more heat spells, but I won't relax until fall officially starts.

Afternoon all,

Hot and humid with a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon. Actually, that's pretty much the weather forecast for the next two months.

Been to the grocery store already. Lunch, then a little workbench time. We'll probably go out for Mexican tonight if I know my better half.  ;)

Have a great one!

Afternoon all,

As everyone has alluded to it is very hot and humid here in Orlando. The Judge was here this morning and Curt stopped by and we certainly did our share of BSing.

I took Pam to get a cup of soft serve ice cream mixed with M&Ms. I just got plain vanilla soft serve.

Hope all are having a great day.

Good afternoon, all.  It's a little hotter about 20 miles south of Dave, but still a nice afternoon. I've found an old can-style air-over-water fire extinguisher effective in getting rid of above-ground wasp nests. At 100 PSI, it reaches the eaves easily. The wasps don't connect water washing their nest away with anything they should attack; they fly around disappointed for a bit, then move on.

I wore long dark-colored pants to today's funeral. They were toasty out in the sun taking down this morning's wash. I'll change to shorts if I go anywhere else today.  If I don't go anywhere else, there's plenty to do in and outside the house.

Not so hot up there today I see. But they had quite a strong storm today. We did around dinner time.
Cooler stuff coming.  :D
