Some of you may remember in a forum a long time ago, that I scratch built this station for Robert Seckler. It now resides in a key place on his layout. Well, at the time, i really like the station and had a hard time giving it up. So I did the next best thing, I made more components so I could make two more. Why, two, well, one for me and one for my neighbor and long time RR buddy. Anyway, her are the beginnings of my version of the same station. There will be minor modifications, but very minor. some of are probably wondering what the two blocks are in the model. The two steel blocks are to keep the cardboard base from warping. This will be corrected with a long piece of cardboard glued lengthwise at some point once the exterior walls are up. I learned a long time ago that long rectangular buildings WILL warp, so you have to be prepared for it. The building colors have been changed to reflect the color scheme of my RR structures. All the walls will be built, braced, painted, weathered and windows installed before assembly. Whew.

Enjoy the build.

Bob,

Thanks for watching. If I was in the kit making business, I'd send you one, but I'm not. There is not enough time in the day to finish all the stuff that I have to do. The first station took me almost 4 months. While it has been a while since that build, this one appears to be going faster, or so I hope. I just finished my newsletter and that was a lot of work. Send me a PM with your email address and I'll email you a copy. Now I am back working on the layout and a video presentation. So-o-o, as they used to say in Boston, good Luck to you and the Red Sox. Keep watching because progress is being made daily.

I was wondering if you had ever done the other builds.

I thought you were doing 3 more so that you could send one down here for Tom and I to share?  ;D

By the way, how about so info and pictures of your buddies layout that you have been mentioning the last few years.

Good Morning Greg,

The remaining Two station parts have just sitting in a box all this time. While working on the steel mill and other areas, I decided to ad more pain to the work load by starting my version of the station for Chester. I am close to completing the town of Chester, if you are ever done. And there were only two sets of parts in the box. I will say that the build of the second station has been going faster that the one that I built for Robert, but I am still a long way from finished. The most time consuming portion of the build will be the shingle roof.

I will ask Russ if he is okay with posting some pictures of his layout. I was down there yesterday working out some design details. Now that all the track is in, he is working on scenery and structures. He is almost complete with a bridge with car and trolley traffic. We discussed putting some downtown scenic background in the area, so he is busy cutting. We will probably install that later in the week. I'll let you know what he says.

Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks Frank. I look forward to seeing Russ's layout after telling Tom and I about all you were doing there.

You seem to be forgetting the other one! Shouldn't there be Three station parts in the box?   ;D

Good Morning All and Greg,

You are very funny. I didn't forget. no time to make any more. As it is, this is going to take me a couple of months to build. besides, I suffer from CRS - Can't Remember Stuff ( changed the word to be politically correct), but you know what I mean. The major station walls are done. I have the three small walls in front to cut and paint. all the walls have the nail holes and a light coating of A&I. The walls are not yet glued to the brick base. Window glazing needs to be added, installed, freight doors need painting. the freight doors need scratch door frames and the list goes on, then i will glue the walls to the brick base.

Then the real fun begins. I can't remember at what point I added the lower roof. I will have to go back to my photo library and see if that jogs my memory  (again CRS). I think i added near the end as two pieces. There is a lot of detail under the main roof that has to be built. I'm getting ahead of myself. Anyway, here is the progress as of this morning . Enjoy.

I don't know Frank, with your CRS syndrome, you just don't remember telling us you would make an extra station.

That's okay, we (especially Tom) can relate and understand your confusion. Maybe they will come up with a pill for this malady!  ;D

Tom,

Thanks for stopping by. I'm pleased with the looks of the station. Progress is a just a little slow. Had a physical earlier in the week and then the swap meet yesterday. Too many interruptions. Need to get back to it. Have a great day cutting wood. Looks great.

Greg, Some things I do remember. What was your name again? Okay, moving on, the station walls are done and painted, windows and doors are being fabricated and installed, then the walls will be glued to the base. The the real fun begins with the roof, but that is another day, well, maybe two or three. sounds like you SBG guys had a great day yesterday at the Pennsy layout. Who is going to post pictures?  enjoy your weekend, I need to get back to work on the station.

Erieman

Good Morning all,

After some yard work and a swap meet over the weekend, I finally got back to working on the station. All the walls are up and installed, Windows are in, glazed and has shades on many of them. Next is the freight doors. The door frames are scratch with Grandt doors. Then freight door openings need some file to fit work, then i can build the door frames. A very light A&I weathering has been applied to the station walls. More to follow as more gets added to the station. final weathering will be done at the end of the build. The brick foundation need some heavier weathering. I have been experimenting on a couple of sample pieces to come up with an appropriate weathering effect. Next to be done is cross bracing between the walls. As you can see, there is a heavy piece of cardstock running down the center of the model. This is to prevent the model from warping. I have found that long structures need this type of support. I install it early in the build process because on a previous model ( not this design) I had to add the shear panel AFTER the build. not fun. I also have to build the station bump out on the track side. Almost forgot about it.

Well, I need to get back to work. What am I talking about, I'm retired. I need to get back to play!!!

Enjoy,

Frank / Erieman

John,

I've been working out in the yard since 6 am. now it's time to go to stretch class. THEN, I'll be in the train room for the rest of the day unless the wife finds me! Need to get back to the station build. I spent part of the day Wednesday helping a fellow modeler from one of the local clubs. he wants to build the flagstaff station. He started his build with a white model and did a good job on it. If building from scratch, i always build a white model. The lower half of the building is brick and he decided to use Monster model works wood siding. He was having some problems, so i helped him get on the straight and narrow. It is going to be a tough build. I told him that I am here if he needs more help.

Well, time to go to stretch class. Later.
