Frank............

You're getting close on this thing............ I'll send you my mailing address on the side and a few bux for postage.

Great build

thanx
Bob

Bob,

Glad to see you still have a sense of humor.
I am far from finished, really, really far. My guess is probably another couple of months. That also means all the vehicles, buses, people that will go with this station.  all the underside of the eves has wainscoting details. and then there is the passenger roof. The first one started to warp when painted. You always have to remember to paint both sides - right.
I am currently scratch building the freight door frames. One done and three to go. Finished my outside projects, so i am back in the train room.

Good Morning All,

Just a quick post to show some progress on the station. There are four baggage doors on the structure. I did not have any "L" lumber in my material supply, so I decided to build the three piece door frame. Lots of angles. has a lot of yard work to do yesterday, so I didn't get too far. Three doors are done, one frame to be completed, two installed and painted. Once they are done, then it is on to the bay windows. THEN THE ROOF STRUCTURE. Anyway progress comes in baby steps. Hope to get some more progress today.

Looks great - you have been on one project for a few days now!  I'm back at the 6 at once mode again ;D .  When you get a chance take a look at the picture of the gazebo that we talked about over on my build thread.

Bob, I have your number alright!!! Thought you might be interested in how the build is proceeding. The baggage doors are framed, painted and installed. Nest was the bay window for the station master. Another fun project. Well, its done and installed. The top of the bay window will be hidden by the passenger canopy which is the last or almost the last thing to build. It certainly is the most awkward, hence the last to build. I am now working on the soffits and there are several levels of them. I also forgot about the two extra windows in the bay area of the building. They will go in as I continue on the soffits. The green trim around the roof line is level one of the soffit. three levels in all, then the roof. I hope to be working on the roof mid week. Then comes the chore of shingles and I do mean chore. And of course there will be the eyebrow window to build. Well, i'm getting closer every day to completion. Enjoy.

Very cool.

Thanx
Bob

Bob,
Thanks for stopping by. Progress over the past day or two has been kind of slow. A lot of - one forward, two back. Since the documentation is rather sparce except for the photos, I have had a few issues. not unsurmountable, just a PIA. I should be framing the roof by now, but no such luck. hopefully in another day or two. While this model is going faster than the original model, there is still a lot of hesitation. I am in the area where the roof has a lot of soffits, etc and movement is slow. I still need to add the small section of the overhang on the end of the building and then add 2 x 10 soffits and 2x4 drip rail. Progress is a little slow.

I think station #3 is going to be a long time in forthcoming, if ever. In the meantime, I'm having a lot of fun building this one. enjoy.

Tom & John,
Whoa here Nelly! Now it looks like I'm being ganged up on!!! First Bob, Now you two guys,  I might as well go into business like Groovy Jeff and sell these buildings as kits!!! NOT. ;D ;D ;D
Yes, I am still making some progress on the build, thank you. I have run into another oops and deciding what to do about it. As I mentioned before, I made the basic overall drawings and then took a lot of photos. not of everything apparently, because I have had to make a few mid course corrections along the way. I now have found another problem ( well maybe). apparently the original model's soffit overhang was about 12". On this model I have made it 24". too change it or not, that is the question. It's not the linear cutting that concerns me, but the cutting across the grain opens the possibility of a lot of OH, Shits!!! And then I would have to paint, cut and install all new soffit boards that are already installed. I am considering making a couple of templates of the roof to see what this larger dimension has created. Oh the joys of making scratch built structures!!!

Hope both of you guys have a great day.

Frank,

Not sure what John is thinking but I was just pulling your chain! I have one two many stations at present!

However, yours is a real beauty! Talk later.

Tom,

Thanks for pulling my chain. I assumed that you and John were up to no good. you guys were just having fun. No problem. An update on the station. I had a conversation with Robert Seckler tonight about some of the dimensions in question on the station. Well, he  told me the numbers that I used on the first model, so after careful consideration, I have decided to remove some of the roof details that you see in the previous picture. I just did not like the width of the building. It was just too excessive. I have most of it removed and after completing this note, I will finish the removal. It blows away about a days worth of work, drat, but I want it to look right. You guys understand that, I'm sure.

I was actually pulling Tom's chain for pulling your chain about going into the kit building business. The last thing any of us needs to do is start a kit business or start building stations for others. If this hobby starts becoming a business then it not a hobby anymore - just work. And when will we find enough time to get our layouts done.  I hope no harm was done - too much chain pulling - I'm back from my fishing trip and its time to get back to work on the layout (or as my wife says playing with my trains).

The station build is looking great - and I'm sure anything you decide to take another run at will just make it better. Good luck - looking forward to watching your continued progress.

Another me culpa. John, I know you were just pulling my chain. no harm, no foul.

As I mentioned in my last post, I had progressed a lot more that the prior photo and found that I did not like the overhang and fascia that I had built for this station. I talked to Robert Seckler who measured the first station and thus confirmed that I had made the overhang much too large. Hence the removal of the last couple of days work. Here is the model stripped back to the walls only.

After stretch class this morning, I am off to the local hobby shop to purchase the correct size of scribed wood. ( that also was wrong) to install. The roof overhang was just too wide and it looked like it was really going to cause me some problem down the road, hence the removal at this point. I think I have the right picture now. more later.
