Frank it is a real work of art.  I'll bet your next structure will have a tar paper roof.  ;D

That's fantastic!

My family made it back to AZ without me. My son's girlfriend is in a big golf tourney in Flagstaff and my son's the caddy. My wife and little guy saw an opportunity and glommed onto the trip...I'm getting some layout time at home.

That'll look great with the rest of the best-in-shows all over your layout!

John,

Good Afternoon. i think you are right about what type of room my next build will be. no shingles !!!!!!. Got a lot done yesterday. The back side main wall is almost done and then there is just the dormers. Next up, the shed roof all around the station. i started painting the shed roof supports earlier today. Headed down to Russ's layout this afternoon. working on installing brick paper veneer for the highline. All the walls were done last week. This week we will be doing the inside of the arches. Sounds like fun! Have a great day. Thanks for the "Sunday" comment referring everyone to view the station and all the shingles!

Good Afternoon John.

Well sorry that you did not get included in the Flagstaff trip, but being alone to work on the layout isn't all bad. Just don't let the wife see this post!!! "That'll look great with the rest of the best-in-shows all over your layout!" The wall is a little crowded for sure, but there are several other walls!!!Thinking about taking this station to the regional convention. May just take it for show and not enter the contest. I got my certification for structures. I really do enjoy building these things as you probably guessed. Still could win a plaque for "Best in Show". Just saying....

Frank,

The roofing has been beautifully, the 6-7 weeks of effort shows. Did I miss how you did the copper rows near the eves? Any tricks there?

Marty,

Thank you for your kind words. Shingles are almost done, then onto the passenger overhang. I have started painting the laser cut braces. The copper roofing is not really copper. The metal roofing is raised rib roofing from Builders in Scale. It comes in aluminum and copper. Due to time constraints and other factors, like having the aluminum roofing handy, I decided to just paint it. the real question was with what. After some brief experimentation, I found the solution. Floquil, remember those folks, sells, or maybe not, an enamel paint marker in "RUST" . Quite handy actually, but can't say whether they are still available. Anyway, I applied the rust pigment onto the aluminum and then wiped off some of the excess. I wanted to have just a hint of color, not the full level of pigment. Simple and easy. Give it try. Now I have to get back to the "Shingles". :'( :'( :'(

NO MORE STINKING SHINGLES!!! :) :) :) Finished the shingles last night and started to install the bracing for the passenger roof. About half way with the braces. went to  the LHS yesterday to get another sheet of scribed lumber. Time permitting today, I will paint the scribed sheeting, cut the four pieces needed and start installation of the roof. The cupola is just sitting in place for the photo. That will be the last item to be glued to the structure. busy day today and its going to be 114, so got to go and get my chores done early. Have a great day.

Top of the Morning Tom,

Glad you enjoy the build. I don't think i want to do any shingle projects for quite a while. I do have another station to build, but I'll save that for later. Robert Seckler swapped me a SRMW Cambridge Crossing station for the build of this station that I did for him.

Stretch class is Friday and now she is trying to have me go to the gym even more times a week. Whoa is me. All this time away from my trains is not good!!! ;D ;D ;D

Have a great day.

That station looks terrific Frank!

Trust me, you don't want to be in any hurry to start that Cambridge Crossing station after building this one.  Especially if you don't want to take on any more shingle projects.   :D   That one drove me nuts cutting, trimming and fitting all the rows of shingles on that roof.  Especially around the 'round' (sort of) end of the station.   :o

Bob,

thanks for stopping by. I have to agree with you on Cambridge Crossing. I remember your build thread and that's what got me interested in that building. Now I remember that it had a tone of shingles. Well, there is always next year. I think that both stations have that faceted end with all those angles. That's what separate the men fro the boys. Really glad to be done with the shingles and be moving on to the passenger covers that go around the entire station.  While I am typing this I am having a brain fart and wondering what it might be like with working lighting on the passenger overhand. I purchased some of the real small LED's several years back and they sit in a drawer. I think that it would be awesome to light this baby up. Your thoughts. Perhaps, I should talk to Slim. Thanks for stopping by and keep watching.

Greg, Shingles bring a whole new meaning to fun. And it starts with the same letter! It has been an interesting project and look forward to completion. Thanks for stopping by.
