Frank...

Great photos......

In your post # 563 above....  What is the building in the left rear that has a false front and corrugated roofing.  Looks like a feed and grain or like that.  Cool building.

thanx
Bob
Did you ever notice how many towns are named after their water towers ! ?

Thank you Frank , what a great layout. One thing surprises me though , strange I didn't see this before, the color of your facia , in my very humble opinion it distracts from the layout.
I love photo's, don't we all.

bob,

Good Eye. That building is scratch built from a photo. It was a building on the Morristown & Erie railroad, located right behind the Erie Lackawanna station in Morristown. The name on building was "Farm Service Exchange"  and dates back to the '50's. This was eventually replaced by Home Depot and the like. I'll see if i can find the photo's of the building. I even have a template of the building front ( somewhere). Glad you enjoyed the pics.

Jan,

I think the photo's have a tendency to make the backdrop look a little stronger that it really is. When I painted it ( 15 - 16 years ago, the skylights on the ceiling were not covered. Today, the skylights have been painted with a foam spray to cut down the intensity of light / heat coming into the room. There are six skylights up there and they generate a lot of heat.  I have thought about making some changes to it, but in the area shown, I have too much in the way. I have a new area ( Steel Mill complex) to the right that I am just starting and have a couple of interesting ideas on the backdrop. How about a thunderstorm as the backdrop?

Frank,
Wish I was there attending your NMRA Regional convention. Looks like many opened up for layout tours and there's a ton of clinics too. Hope you have a great open house today and the rest of the week keeps you busy, have fun at all the clinics you get to attend, and hope you do well with East End Market in the contest room. Sounds like the weather is perfect today as the convention opens it's doors.

Sorry if I used the wrong words Frank , but I didn't mean the backdrop but the front ( that 's the facia isn't it ), that sea blue color .

Jan,

I scrolled back to page one and I see what you mean. All the pictures with the fascia look more blue that green. Weird. The fascia is painted a deep green called "Billiard". It must be the lighting that makes it look blue. Believe me, I spent a long time researching the right color and it even matches the carpet in the room.  I know you would like it. I will take some more pictures and see if I can get a better photo where the fascia really looks like the real color. thanks for point that out.

I went back and it likely is the lighting, in some photo's it seems more blue and in the darker ones it is definitely a much better green color. Anyway , I would love your layout even with a purple pokadot facia  ;) ;) ;D

Last week I visited the Morristown & Erie when it was open for the PSR convention. Here are the photos that came out well. The trains are a bit blurred in a couple because they were running (for the visitors) and I was using long exposures for better depth of field:

James,

It was a pleasure meeting you last week during the convention. It was a little hectic in the train room the days that I had open house. I had over 60 people visit on the three days that I had the layout open. Sunday morning was the busiest. It was great fun. Thank you for taking such wonderful pictures and i hope that you have more to post. Always good to see what photographic angle someone chooses. My neighbor Russ and I will be sitting down on Sunday to look at what you sent him. It looks great. I am still somewhat recovering from the convention. The convention took a lot to make sure everything went smoothly. I hope you enjoyed it. It was a pleasure to meet you.  See you on the forum.

Good Afternoon all,

As I may have mentioned, we recently hosted the regional NMRA convention here in Scottsdale. Our guest speaker is a fellow model railroader from Salt Lake City. His name is Dale Angell. About a year ago, he started a You Tube series called" The High Art of Screwing Around" and model railroading can certainly fall in that category, just ask your wife. Anyway, every Sunday morning Dale posts another story about such events. Well, I was pleasantly surprised that o see my railroad on this first of many stories / layout tours he took during the convention. The first part of the video is Dale and his wife Kayrn riding the train from Williams, az. to the Grand Canyon. The second portion of the video is a tour of part of my layout. Good Morning Greg. Glad you enjoyed the video. I don't know about being immortalized, but it was fun. There were a couple of other areas that i wished he would have included, but that is another story. Have a great day.
