Timberline Models First National Bank of Creede

I bought this old wood craftsman kit on Ebay a while back and it's time to make a start.  Working in wood I prefer to scratchbuild but I liked the look of this structure so here goes.  Here's what came in the box. I'll post up progress shots as and when.

Certainly will Dave. I've been trying to ID the various bits of wood before I dive in.  Nightmare!  I think this will be a steady build over a period of time! I'm still deciding how to treat the wood before assembly.  I wish I still had Floquil, there was a technique for faded paint that was fabulous. You brushed a bit on then hit it with their highly lethal solvent and the paint faded away. Nothing nowadays works the same way.  I can scan the plans if anyone would like them.

Mmm having dived into the box I'm not sure how much fun is going to be involved!  However as Magnus Magnusson used to say -  "I've started so I'll finish". Wish me luck, I may need it.

You don't see to many Timberline kits anymore. Built a few back in the day. They are great kits. The bank is one of my favorite so I will be following along.

Welcome aboard Karl, I have a lot of stuff going on at present in my other guise as a musician so this might be a rather languid build!  Plus re-installing my backscenes and Christmas grandparent duties soon upon us too.  I'll try not to prognosticate too much but retired life seems to be as time-demanding as the working one was!

I'll be following along also. I saw this kit built on a local layout which is now a fallen flag. The model was really nice.

Hi Barry.....at least you have your build out of the box.....I can't seem to make even that much progress.....I'll be watching.

Well Greg I'm beginning to wish it was still in the box!  I have made some progress inasmuch as I've lightly distressed the wood components and stained them with my aniline dye and alcohol mix (I'll kindly spare you pictures of that process).  But the windows! Aaarrrgggh!  There are many and they are finely cast but somewhat brittle now and most of them have a small ejector or casting dimple smack bang in the middle of the tiny centre muntin.  This is definitely not a good thing. I need to figure out how to clean them up without snapping the casting. If anyone has any suggestions....

I'm going to replace all the window castings rather than lose any more hair with the kit ones which break if I look at them. It looks like Tichy 8244s will be fine replacements so I'll order some and hope they don't take too long to get over here. In the meantime I'm sponge-dabbing some white acrylic on the timbers. No point in working the window openings until I get the new ones so this one's on the back burner for a bit.  Still if it's worth doing....
