I promised TCT855 I'd post something on this thread this evening.

I have about 30+ more pictures but didn't get them cropped and loaded.

Here is a photo to show how solid my old bench work was in the good ole days.

Tom ;D

And you think I over stress bench work.....I'm an amateur compared to you.  ;D ;D ;D

Greg,

At least you learned from a guy who took pride in sitting down on the job. ;D ;D ;D

I wasn't sure how I wanted to arrange the tracks leading to the roundhouse. I was reading the Richard Prince book on the NC&ST.L and saw an over head view of the tracks. The photo was taken from the top of the coaling tower in Richmond, VA.

Obviously I didn't have the room the railroad had so I modified it a bit.

First, I decided where the turn table needed to fit.

This is the arrangement I decided on for the roundhouse tracks.

Looking at the photo  below, you can see that the water tower was moved back towards the turnout.

The roundhouse was installed/built in place.

Tracks and roundhouse are finished.

I'll add more next week. I added a building in the rear of the roundhouse and added a large diesel facility as well.

This was a fun layout but it didn't afford me any room to add southern scenery or many structures.

Impressive job.  Building the roundhouse on site a good idea.  Hardest part for me was getting the track laid out  probably would like to do again but to much to do and to little time.  Jim

Jim,

The roundhouse first made it easier for aligning the turntable. The homosote base made it easy to cut out the interior pits as well.

I appreciate you stopping by and posting a comment.

After installing the roundhouse I decided to add an additional structure to the rear. I added the large diesel facility from Walthers.

This was a kit Bill Cutler gave me as it was to big for his layout.

After the shop tracks were laid, I added a few turnouts for access to the shop.

I added track from the mainline and from the side of the roundhouse.

A few weeks later I added yet another turnout for an additional building.

I'll show what I did with this track, hopefully next week. At the rate I'm going I can't be sure I'll "get 'er done".
