Once the basic scenery base was in place the actual scenery was started.

That will be a good post for next Thursday.

Looks like fun. I never thought to put down paper and glue it. I would save a lot of money on plaster cloth.

Curt,

Thanks for checking in. It was fun and as I mentioned Howard Zane showed me how to do it. Not only is this faster than plaster cloth, it isn't as messy either.

I didn't do a lot of scenery on the old, er, older layout.  I however, have enough to see the trains running at least through some scenery.

Here is where I started the scenery. I have more pictures of this area but can't locate them. When the thread has reached it's end, I'll find them.

This little garage was a freebie kit from FOS. It was the perfect size and fit for this little space on the layout.

This view of the double track mainline was taken from the cab of an ACL E7. The engineer was O.H. (Bill - The Judge) Eaton.

If Greg were the engineer, the photo were be nothing but a blurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

The photo is directly north of the small green garage.

You can see the upper two track mainline in this view.

This next view was taken from the roof of the power plant. The power plant will be shown later in the thread.

My power plant is a kit bash from a Magnuson kit. The small sub structure on the left is from Magnuson's Burndout Warehouse.

The retaining wall around the power plant is made of resin and cast from a FSM kit.

The retaining wall in the back of the power plant supports the second level between the roadway underpass and the start of the high trestle on the right.

The stone retaining wall is made up of over 1,200 individual Hydrocal blocks. I sure hated to remove this portion of the layout. The individual blocks were glued to a plywood frame.

This area was directly south of the power plant. You can see the waste pipes in the retaining wall. These are 1/2" brass tubes.

The large retaining wall to the left was made of .40" Evergreen Styrene sheets and painted UP Gray. The expansion joint lines were weathered using a #2 pencil. The rest of the weathering was done with pastel chalks.

See ya'll next Thursday.

Curt,

You are too kind my friend. My old scenery and rock work was really very bad back then. You'll see for yourself in the next few Throw Backs.
