And Kevlar vests so the train doesn't hit us like a bullet?

Curt,

Don't give Greg any ideas. He may show up one day with a bullet train. 8) 8)

Hi Tom:

Beautiful work as always.  I always enjoy photo of your layout.

Good Afternoon Tom,

Just wondering what the height of the third level ? I probably missed this information. Really looking forward to seeing the third level all around the room. That means you might complete the middle aisle. Level two, middle island will probably be the last portion to get scenery because that is your working, storage  area to put all the stuff you are installing. Really looking for some of those pieces to be installed. Keep up the great work, my friend.

Tom, how do you support the upper levels?  Do you use commercial shelf brackets?

Frank,

The height of the third level from floor to top of rail will be 55 1/2". Easy eye level. The third level isle will be the last section.

I appreciate you checking in on the build.

Dave,

The third level is supported by wall tracks and 20" shelf brackets.

I got them from Lowe's. I cut the wall tracks to fit my needs.

You can see the wall tracks in the next photo and the shelf starting on page 109 of this build. The wall tracks are bolted to the wall through the drywall and I used tapcons to secure them to the wall.

Thanks for following along.

Dave,

You are welcome. I hope the info helps in any decision making you have. Cliff Powers used this method on the Magnolia Route and I got the idea from Cliff.

I started preparing for the third level over the lubritorium area. The track will come off the Ovalix and onto the third level bench work.

I needed to pull some of the scenery forward so I'm not bumping my head doing it later.

I showed the area below in a previous photo and this is the area around the lubritorium I'm referring to.

In the next photo you can see where I've added some basic scenery between the Ovalix and yard track.

I used some scale 12x12's and built a small reservoir for the two oil tanks.

I painted the reservoir with Polly Scale Aged Concrete and used track ballast for the bottom.

I applied matte medium to the scenery to hold it all in place.

While the matte medium was drying, I made the support board for the area directly above the lubritorium.

I didn't have a 1x3 on hand so I used the table saw and ripped a 1x4 to (1x3), actual size is 2 1/2" in width. I also ripped a 2x4 and from the 2x2's cut them 2 1/2" long.

The 1x3 is 10 ft. long. I marked every 18" on square for the 2 x 2 x 2 1/2 blocks.

Prior to screwing the blocks in place on the 1 x 3, I placed them on the 10 ft. board and rechecked the spacing.

Using the double lines as a guide, I screwed the blocks onto the 1 x 3 with the screw head on the back side.

Continued in a few, need a cold Diet Pepsi.
