Greg,

You came, you saw and then you left! What do you think?

Another fun focal point for your empire.....when you figure out how to get the gremlins out.  ;D

Loved the progress and the look of the 3rd level you've completed so far. Really anxious to see the first 10' of the 3rd level center section.  :)

ACL 1504,
Yes!  Love the full movie effects of your layout video brother.  I feel like I owe you $8.00 plus where's the milk duds and popcorn? ha. Thanx Thom...

Thom,

Thank you kind sir, I also serve Diet Pepsi. I noticed the LEDs, when picked up by the camera lens, look bluish. Don't know how to change it. Looks better when viewed without looking through the camera.

That's neat as hell Tom. How did you do the thunder and lightning?

Curt,

Thank you, I'll explain it all after I finish answering all the posts.

The Boss and I were invited to visit today and met Tom and Greg Demayo. What a great time! These two guys are fantastic and truly made us feel at home.  The storm scene is even cooler in person! I won't steal Tom's thunder (pun truly intended) on how he set it up but it is impressive, as is the entire layout. Having modeled less than a year I was frankly overwhelmed at the complexity and thought put into the layout. I came away with a new appreciation of what can be accomplished and that, when done at Tom's level of ability, it looks more like art than modeling. Thanks for taking so much time and sharing the wonder of your on-going creation from both Deb and myself.

Jim,

Thank you for the very generous compliment on the layout. We enjoyed the visit with you and Deb(the Boss) very much. I appreciate you driving down to see the Atlantic and Southern RR.

I look forward to seeing you both when you are back in Florida.

Tom,

you have outdone yourself with the thunder and lightning. Kudos to you my friend. Simply marvelous. Okay, spill the beans, what did you use to get the effects? I want something like this by the steel mill that I am working on. Simply marvelous.

Frank / Erieman

Afternoon Frank,

The lightning and thunder is something I've been waiting to do for the past two years. I'll show you how after these next few posts.

And, I very much appreciate the kind words on the stormy weather. 8)

Cousin Brucie,

Thank you for the support and compliment on the water. To be honest I was a little hesitate to pour it but in the end all my fears were all for naught.

Greg,

Thank you for the input and feedback. It's always good to have another pair of eyes to see the layout. I did in fact figured the out the gremlins.

I worked on the third level this afternoon. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

The thunder and lightning is nothing more than a Broadway Limited Imports item.

BLI currently has them for sale at $129.99.

They also have a reconditioned one for 87.09.

I got mine about two years ago for around $100.00.

If you've already watched the BLI video on the thunder and lightning, you'll notice the LEDs in the kit are only about 18 inches long. My lagoon is right at 9 feet long.

I used the same Cool White LEDs I'm using for the second level lighting. I cut two lengths at 8 ft. and glued them to a 3/4" wide piece of Masonite/hardboard. I then screwed them to the inside edge of the two 2X3's I'm using for the third level benchwork.

I cut a piece of plywood, marked the speaker diameter and drilled holes in the plywood.

The speaker was screwed to the back of the plywood. I also used a piece of white cardboard for a cushion between the speaker and plywood.

I mounted the speaker under the staging area with is also under the main channel of the lagoon.

Time for a Diet Pepsi, back in a fewl.

The speaker is 5.5 inches high and definitely wasn't going to fit under the third level, nor the second level.

The LED wires needed to be screwed to the rear of the speaker. The only solution I had to run the wires was to do so by cutting into the scenery to the left of the Smokehouse BBQ.

To make it easier to run/pull the wires behind and through the scenery, I ran the two sets of wires through two separate brass tubes.
