I extended the center island benchwork. Here is the first section.

I won't bore ya'll with all the benchwork stuff so I'll fast forward and here it is.

The post in the center comes out so I can get the saw.

This end section will be the area for the turntable and nine stall roundhouse.

I didn't waste any time getting it started.

I used the round house floor and marked the outline. I did this in order to position it correctly in relation to the turntable.

When the roundhouse was used on the old layout, I used 1/2" Homosote. This allowed me to cut the Homosote so the pits could be recessed and the flooring to fit flush with the top of the Homosote.

As you can see I'm not using Homosote now. This created a minor problem with the flooring of the round house.

I previously glued the pits to the underside of the flooring per Walthers instruction sheet. I used several, 20  #11 new blades to be exact, and carefully sliced the pits from the nine stalls. This was about a four hour project.

I then positioned the roundhouse floor back in place and this is when I drew in the pit lines seen above.

I used a jig saw and cut out the pits from the plywood. I re-glued one of the pits to the flooring for a test fit.

The pit on the left is glued in place and you can see the cut outs for the others.

More in a few. I need a Diet Pepsi just thinking about the time spent removing the pits. ;D ;D ;D

You have probably noticed the round house is in various stages of disassembly. This thing has been moved, boxed, reboxed and moved several times. I have a small box of parts that have come apart and several repairs to make. I'll make those repairs as I reassemble the roundhouse.

First; however, I plan to change the color scheme of the interior posts. I'll also be adding LEDs to each stall as well.

The line around the roundhouse is the center line for a 24.5" reverse loop/runaround track.

Here again is the same photo.

All nine stall pits were glued to the respective floor part and the entire roundhouse, well the entire floor parts, were test fit for a final time.

It all fit as planned.

Here is the CAD drawing Greg did for this end of the center section.

As you can see I have 2' to 2' 6" for isle space. This decision came after much thought and then I said I'll be the one out here most of the time so I don't need more isle space. This seems tight but remember this is a two person layout and not built for the masses.

Actually, there is plenty of space to move around.

Here is a view from above showing the isle space.

I have a neat trick a carpenter showed me some 60+ years ago. I'll share it with ya'll tomorrow.

A neat trick?
Let me guess!  Measure twice, cut once and then go back and cut a new piece because you forgot to carry the one.  Ha, I know, I'm a nincowpoop!  KP-out...

I've never been able to get such neat straight line cuts with my jigsaw!!  Is there a trick to this?

Great job and extremely impressive on the speed you're moving at. I don't remember if the second level to the right had the circular area in it previously or is that to make more room to get by?
