Tom,
Let me know the hours of Langford's Hobbies.  It looks like one of the best stocked locations in the South.  8)
Does the soda machine have regular cold Pepsi products or just Diet Pepsi ?  ;)
Do you still offer senior discounts ?  ;D
Tommy

Veterans discounts?
Frequent shopper points?
Drone deliveries?
Working on my second million. I gave up on the first.

Tom, your progress has been amazing as of late. The "multi-level" thing is really coming together. I'm sorry I haven't had an opportunity to stop in and check it out lately.

Having that well stocked hobby shop is the key to building your first class model railroad !  :)
Tommy

Tommy,

Here, everyday is Saturday, 9-5. Come on down. Only Diet Pepsi and bottled water served here. No senior discounts, just walking in is enough.

I'm well stocked for sure, maybe to well stocked. :-[

Hi Tom

I'm sitting on my boat waiting for the fish to bite and catching up on your progress.  You are moving right along - love it.  I need to make a trip down your way to see it in person.  Maybe next spring,  when I get tired of our winter weather.  We are having Florida weather in Michigan this summer - the water temperature is 84 degrees. That's 10 - 15 degrees warmer than it should be right now.  I'm trying to find the deep cold spring feed spot in the lake because that's where all the fish are hanging out. I found one and caught two but that's been it.

One question, if I may, when you make an RTV mold of your resin kits are you going to use hydrocal or resin to make the new walls?

John,

Thank you for stopping by and getting caught up on the thread. Yes, I've been very busy and will continue until I hit the "time to take a break wall"!

You are welcome anytime you are in the area.

I prefer to use resin with the RTV molds. I have used Hydrocal but the resin is easier to work with in joining the walls. Micro Mark resins CR-300 and CR-600 both work very well.

Chip,

For now, none of the stash is for sale. ;D ;D ;D But who knows what I may choose to move. 8)

So that answers all the questions.

John,

I've been pushing it pretty hard lately. I know you are a very busy man so when in the area and you have the time, you know the number and where I'll be.

The third level is finally finished, well, all but the lift out. I'll finished that when the track laying begins.

I started work on the coaling tower and coal shed. No pictures of this as yet. I want to get further along and have something worth showing.

I did build another sand bin for the steam area. I won't go into how I built it. If you missed that portion of the thread you can follow it here. It's about half way down page 117.

http://modelersforum.com/layout-tours/the-atlantic-and-southern-build-thread-continued/1740/

I did take Reading Bob's suggestion on this one and built up the center pit area for the sand.

I cut four pieces of foam board to fill the area.

I used Weldwood contact cement for gluing the four pieces in place.

More in a few.

I then started adding the bin sides.

Diet Pepsi time folks, back after grabbing a cold one. :P :P

I next added the bin tie rods. I used 1/16" piano wire for the rods. They were painted a rusty brown.

I then added a bead of glue around the inside of the bin. I noticed as the glue was drying, it was pulling the sides of the bin in. I cut seven pieces of HO scale 8X8s and used them to hold the sides out until the glue dries. The 8X8s are under the tie rods. They will be covered with sand later.

After cropping the next photo, I noticed the nut and bolt castings are a bit to orange. No picture of this but I have since toned the orange down to look more rusty brown.

Well, I've hit today's wall so I'm leaving it here.

Today I continued work on the coaling tower. I'm kit bashing it by adding extra details that will make the tower look better and more realistic. I started be adding LEDs under the main tower coal bin.

I drilled two 5mm holes in the bottom as shown below.

There is a small space between/inside the tower columns. I enlarged the hole by using a 7/64 bit and reaming out one column.

I found some 30 gauge solid wire at Radio Shack. I purchased red and white they didn't have black.

I pulled the red and white wires through the column and into the main coal bin as shown.

I soldered two of Slim's 5mm warm white flood LEDs together.

I then pushed them through the two holes as shown. I only pushed them about 1/3 of the way into the hole.

More in a few. I need a cold Diet Pepsi.
