As much fun as I've been having on the scenery, something has been bothering me for a month or so.

Scenic Express obviously sells hundreds of different items. One of the products I've been using with my scenery is the Flock & Turf. I use Item #EX882C. The "C" simply refers to the fact that it's in the 64 oz. bottle. Yes, I buy it in bulk.

Anyway, this is the same product and item number I purchase from them last year. The problem I have with SE is that they changed the contents every so slightly. The silfor filler is 2mm instead of the 4mm they had in last years batch. Also, they added some brown foam. I dislike very much the brown foam look.

And the green foam chunks are a little larger as well. Here is a close up of the Flock & Turf in the plastic jar.

I decided to try and separate the silfor filler and the green and brown chunks.

I put some of the stuff in my large tea strainer.

I rubbed my finger around the inside of the strainer. This allowed the 2mm silfor to fall through the screen with some other small scenery material.

Now I can blend the finer separated material with smaller grass blends.

My idea worked this time.

It is officially official now. I have my own little yard sign.

I forgot to mention that my last post gave me picture number 3300. That is a whole bunch of cropping. :o :o

I know all the people will be blown away with your layout that visit it.

I think the NMRA people are going to be shocked to see what one person can accomplish.

Curt,

I'm looking forward to any visitors who come by and hope they like what I've done.

Jim,

Doug Bowman, Chairman of the NMRA layout tour, came by the other night to see the layout and drop off the NMRA yard sign.

He was shocked at the scenery.  He said the pictures just don't do the layout justice and he wasn't prepared to see how it all looks in person. I hope all the rest of the visitors are pleased with what I've done as well.

Tom I'm catching up on this thread. Your orange Grove looks awesome and it still amazes me how your scenery and Joey's backgrounds work so well together to create a larger scene.

Hi Tom,

If any of your visitors don't like your scenery, there is something wrong with them.  Your scenery is absolutely amazing.

Dan,

Thanks very much for the compliment on the scenery and grove. Joey's photo background sure make the scenery look good. Best decision and purchase I've made for the layout.

I finished the orange grove yesterday. I prepped the ground same as the other half. I took the photos so ya'll have to see it all over again. ;D ;D

The plastic bases were glued in place, white glue painted over the area and sand was smoothed out over the glue.

The sand was wet with wet water and saturated with matte medium.

As it was drying I sprinkled on more earth and sand. Weeds were also added as on the other section.

Early this morning I added the other 32 orange trees. I also added 32 new fence posts. The fence posts were carried down to where the road will cross the track. 32 trees and 32 posts, numbers are a funny thing.

I still need to add the barbed wire and more weeds along the fence line.

I've been waiting to use my old farm buildings and old wind mill. I've had these boxed for the past 12 years.

Here is my kit bash SS Ltd. wind mill. It won't necessarily be located where it is in the photo.
