Y'all ought to see it in person.....photos don't do it justice.  8)

Just to get back in character.....if you hadn't been slacking so much since the holidays, you would have been able to get Tahope done in time for the convention.  ;)

Greg,

Thank you for the generous compliment on the layout work. It has been a whole bunch of fun. Not like a bunch of bananas, but fun.

Enjoyed yesterday and thanks for helping me move the plywood.

Most modelers have a workbench with about one square foot of open area, but you've achieved that in about 100 sq. ft.!

James,

I realize I have much more space than many modelers and much less than others. This is all I can handle. It would indeed be nice to have that big of a work bench area. However, I'm looking forward to building the City of Tahope in the middle.

Thanks for checking in on the thread.

I mentioned I was going to do a cow pasture and now I've decided to have a barn for milking cows.

Beef cattle will be in the pasture and the milk cows in the barn area. There is no science in keeping them apart but I do plan on having a couple of bulls in the pasture so I need to limit the milk cows in the main pasture.

I'm going to use the BTS Prichard's Barn. I don't necessarily like the look. I plan on kit bashing it later to my liking, as in after the NMRA, but for now I'm only going to use the framing. More on this later in the week.

The barn will be located in the area as seen in the below photo.

You can see the scenery has already been added and will need to be removed. I measured the width of the barn and marked it on the fence. That section of the fence was removed.

I used a small metal square and drew lines in the scenery. The scenery between the lines will be removed.

Here is how I removed the scenery. The base was glued down with Elmer's White Glue. The additional layers were secured with matte medium.

Both the glue and matte medium will soften when water is added. So, I added/soaked the area with water and let it soak in for about 15 minutes.

I then used a putty knife and gently removed the scenery.

A little messy but easy peasy.

Ya'll know what time it is. Back after grabbing a fresh Diet Pepsi from the fridge.

 A barn-raising would be a great scene.

Dave,

That is some what of what I'll have. I'll have the frame up but not much else. I do want to kit bash it later.

I added another layer of scenery to the pasture gate area.

While that was drying, I added more spackle to the area where the spackle dried and cracked.

I painted white glue on the entire pasture area and added the first layer of ground scenery.

Where the white glue showed through as it was drying, I added more ground scenery until I couldn't see any white glue.

I let this dry over night. I then used a soft bristle brush and swept up the excess scenery material. This material will live to be given the chance to be scenery else where on the layout.

In a few days I'll be moving back to the area shown below. I plan to update the scenery here and add a few more trees.

Ma Perkins added a few flowers in front of the small cracker house.

I appears the chimney is in need of repair. I think I see a few chimney bricks laying on the roof.

Over night a huge oak tree grew next to the house.

I added the final layer of scenery and a tall tree next to the bridge area.

This is the wrong location for this tree and it has since been removed and replaced with a smaller one.

I'll show the new scene tomorrow or the next day.
