Beautiful work Tom. You're an impressive modeler. Thank you for the Tamiya color references. I wrote them down for my next trip that way.

Tom,

I am glad to see and hear that you have overcome your lack of exuberance. I know of what you speak, I had big plans to build some F&C cars while I was here, they are coming back in the same form as when they left. Not all, but some. The layout is looking very nice, the petroleum storage will be a great addition to the empire. I vote for silver tanks, sun reflection consideration, you are in the south after all.

Bob

Bob,

Thanks for stopping by, much appreciate the kind words as well. I'm not totally over the slowdown but I feel a surge of renewed energy.

The tanks will be silver and the platform will be black for some contrast. I didn't mean to say the tanks would be both black and sliver. Going back and reading what I wrote does indicate that, but no so. DUH on me.

This area will be another show stopper if I get it the way I intend.

Coming along nicely Tom.  I like the paint colors you chose.  I have one of the piping kits.  I looked over the instructions and you are correct.....they are as clear as mud.

Mark,

Thank you. This is a neat kit but as indicated, the instructions suck!

I use Neutral Grey #3 for Weathered Black.  You can get both paints and paint markers.

(Forgive me if I've mentioned this before.)

Dave,

I like Golden paints and I'll get a bottle of the Neutral Grey #3. I appreciate the info and I'm not sure you posted it here but I do remember seeing it somewhere.

Curt,

Thank you for the very generous compliment on the work. Building models of all sorts has been my interest since I can remember.

I added the platform to the first section and it fit very well. Surprising since the instructions were so bad.

More piping still needs to be added to both sides of the platform.

Here is how the first section looks in place. I'm sure it will look better when I get the rest finished.

Diet Pepsi time. Back in a few.

I started work on the second section this afternoon. I'll join two sections together, build the other two and then add the two together.

Also, I'll wait and weather the entire platform at one time so it will look as if it weathered at the same time. Huh?

Hopefully I'll have more to add to the thread tomorrow evening.

Great work Tom. One thing that amazes me about all your work is how crisp your paint lines always are. I'm jealous.  ;D

Curt,

Thank you. Painting between the lines just takes a little patience, a steady hand and years of practice of not painting between the lines. ;D ;D ;D

I finished more of the fuel oil platform today.

I'd like to bring something to your attention Walthers doesn't mention in the instructions.

The main pipe that comes out on the top of the pipe manifold is supposed to fit into one of the round openings in part number 11.  Part #11 is shown in the photo below.

Well, it doesn't and if you paint it like I did it for sure won't fit. The hole in part #11 is to small.

In the photo below you can see the pipe coming out of the top right of the manifold. This is the pipe that is to fit into the four round openings in #11.
