Great organization! I did a similar project in October just after the Narrow Gauge Convention.  I put all the laser cut wood from Monster in one place during the process.  I need some brick for my Locomotive Works floor.  I sure wish I would have wrote down were that one place was that I put it. ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D  Labeling the boxes doesn't work - you need to write down were you put the box.

For a couple years before we moved, I couldn't find my truck tuner (that reams out/shapes the cone in car trucks to better fit the wheelset pointed axles.)  I found it when I unpacked and put stuff into the new basement closet (that's holding model kits.) But damned if I can remember -where I put it-!!

Chip,

I have most of them painted and just waiting for the third level round house to be installed. Here are the ones that have TCS WOW installed and waiting for the third level.

The Judge and I take one out once in a while, run it and then put it back. At present, I don't have the room in the staging and second level to hold them.

When I started the removal of the old layout, I just boxed up stuff or filled tubs and shoved them under the new layout. Due to the height of the staging level, 28 inches off the floor, I only have room for one tub or a couple of small boxes.

By combining everything I find now, I can have two tubs in the center as the second level is 38 inches from the floor.

The fun continues. It's like Christmas here.

I found a tub of blue boxes, all new and the freight cars unbuilt. Some of them are Bev-Bel. 50 all total in this one tub.

I found a few yellow boxes on the bottom.

One is a Central of Georgia 40' boxcar. The price was $1.69 in 1983.

This car is OP4, meaning out of production and very rare.

I also found this small box in the corner.

It contained 6 old Athearn 40 boxcars - five of them still have the old horn hook couplers. All are new with sprung trucks and no missing or broken parts. They are part of my Athearn collection and will go back into the display case.

All are 30 years or older.

I found a small stash of Accurail boxcars.

One box felt light so I checked it. It contained a few missing detail parts. I say missing as I just found them so they must have been missing. 8) 8)

Now I need to check all box for more missing detail parts.

Tom,

Your room looks more like a hobby shop rather than a home layout.  And a  damn fine hobby store / layout!

After having a good laugh, i found out that I needed to move stuff in my train room so the window cleaner can get to the few windows that I have in the building. Of course, the windows are over my work areas and there is a major pile of stuff everywhere. I found things I have been looking for. Sounds familiar?

Have a great day my friend with your project.

Frank / Erieman

Frank,

Appreciate you stopping by. I get that a lot about the hobby shop. I know I'm better stocked than our local one for sure.

I'm still finding stuff I didn't know I lost or don't remember ever having it. Old age is definitely coming.

ACL 1504,
You are without a doubt the most organized modeler I have ever met (next to George).   Curious? since you don't throw anything away obviously.  Where do you put all your trash? ha. KP-out...

John,

Hopefully, this time I'll find everything and get them in the correct batch with the other like items. Labeling is a great idea as well.

KPI,

My Babe would disagree about the organization issue. I told her the house is not the same as the layout room. ;D ;D ;D

You know that went over well.

I put the trash in the trash tub so I can find what I threw out and may need one day. 8)

Dave,

When I removed the old layout, I just started taking things off and putting them in the nearest box. Of course I didn't label anything so now it seems like Christmas all over again and/or a scavenger hunt.

I'm definitely getting to old for this kind of hunt.
